Weird, I can confirm a bit different behavior. I discovered it gives a
different dns ip, if the one from my ISP isn't received (I presume
that's what's happening, since I haven't seen that IP before).

I have some complains re the use of karmic on my Acer Aspire One 110L
(with the 8GB SSD) but the wlan does work reliably! I have done a
complete reinstall once the final karmic came out, but wlan did work
well before.
However, i use WEP only (due to some old WEP-only hardware). With that
caveat

supported Firewire sound cards, the easiest way to get access to raw1394
is to set it to belong to video group, and the user to this group.

Did the screen appear to be working for each mode?
Hard to say as it was shunted over to one side, but possibly yes. I ran
the same test on a Dell laptop yesterday so I have some idea of what it
should look like. But the graphic on this machine definitely weren't
happy. Wish I had stayed with

First after upgrade to 9.10 the screen sometimes froze with the mouse
pointer still moving. Sometimes there where dense white and black
horizontal lines across the entire screen hiding everything.
Finally after a few reboots from remote session putty login from
another computer the screen

Also see bug 438398 which appears to be the root cause for a lot of the
nvidia failures. Unfortunately jockey may not be flagging these errors
to the user (bug 441638) leading them to reboot without the nvidia
driver fully installed.
