These reports helped me to at least get one PPA maintainer to change his setup, so that it is compatible with the packages in the archive. This PPA is used by many people (we got at least 4 or 5 reports for it in a quite short time). So problem solved for really many many people. Bug reports

Yes, that needs fixing, but don't overdramatize the issue ;) libsane is only a recommends, so it is not mandatory. You still can install and use Wine, right? The only restriction is that you can use only either 32-bit or 64-bit scanner drivers (affected people by this should be close to zero).
