Hi giacof,
Sorry for the delayed response. I don't suppose you'd be able to
capture the panic running the latest Jaunty 2.6.28-11.42 kernel. Also,
would you be able to take a photograph of the beginning of the stack
trace (rather than the end) when the panic happens? I'm closing the
Intrepid
Can you then confirm the screenshot was useful to investigate the panic?

Hi there!
I finally got the chance to capture the kernel panic dump on the console. This
was made on Intrepid.
Picture attached.
Regards.

Sorry to disappoint you, but the same kernel panic DID occur on Jaunty, at
last... I have no idea why it did not happen the first time I tried it.
I'm reverting the status to new.

Hi Leann,
I noticed the Jaunty Alpha 4 was recently released for Kubuntu, too. I think I
should make at least one test with KDE, before I could confirm the issue was
resolved. I am downloading the iso right now.
Thank you for your time and consideration!

[i965] kernel panic after touching
Hi giacof,
Since you've commented that this particular issue seems to be resolved
with Jaunty I'm marking the actively developed linux (Ubuntu) task as
Fix Released. I will open an Intrepid nomination to reflect that this
is still an issue with Intrepid. However, finding and providing a patch
Geir,
sorry for misunderstanding.. I actually tried it the way you suggest:
1. restart computer and select the Kubuntu partition
2. login as default user and wait for KDE complete startup
3. avoid touching the touchpad until switch to a different VT (by pressing
Ctrl+Alt+F1)
4. touch the
Hello, I recently experienced a different type of crash: no kernel panic this
time, but system hung. The atteched Xorg.0.log file reported the following
error:
[mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop.
I also found a strange connection: the bug ALWAYS occur when
giaconf, I guess Leann wasn't specific enough in her post. When there's a
kernel panic, the kernel writes a dump to the cosole. To see this, you have to
have a console (any text tty) up when the panic happens. Hopefully this will do
the trick:
1. Press Ctrl+Alt+F1 to get up a console.
2. Touch
I confirm this bug on Intrepid, with the same laptop model.
I don't know about Jaunty, in any case I'm not allowed to try any unstable
release on this notebook.
I hope someone is working on a fix, as this bug makes Intrepid nearly unusable
and we cannot wait three months for the next official
Back to Intrepid, this time I had to reboot twice, as the first attempt
resulted in a failure in starting the X server with the vesa driver (see
attached Xorg.failsafe.log). The splash screen slowly faded and then
the monitor turned blank. No kernel panic occurred, though, and I could
restart by
Hi again,
I made a test on Jaunty and there was no kernel panic. The touchpad worked fine
and no error was reported in the Xorg.0.log file.
The only two problems I encountered are on the Atheros madwifi driver (see
attached dmesg) and the Proxy authentication settings in Network preference.
Hi Leann,
enclose is a screenshot that is nearly identical to what I see, the only
difference being in the mouse cursor (missing in the attached picture).
Actually, I doubt that could be much helpful, as all works fine until I use the
touchpad: I can switch to any window by pressing Alt+Tab,

Hi giacof,
Would you be able to capture the kernel panic you see? Even if you have
to take a digital photo of your screen when the panic occurs that would
be fine. Additionally, can you comment if this is a regression you are
seeing or has this panic happened with prevous kernels? Finally,
