[Bug 189616] Re: connection problems under load with hardy dovecot
So we just upgraded the mail server to hardy, and unfortunately we ran into the same problem again. This takes the dapper backport and any possible interaction with dapper libraries/kernel etc. out of the picture as we're now running a vanilla hardy server (with hardy kernel and hardy dovecot) and experiencing the same issue. I've had to downgrade to the dapper dovecot (running on hardy) so that our users can access their email. -- connection problems under load with hardy dovecot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/189616 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dovecot in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 219528] Re: [SRU] recode function segfaults
I have able to reproduce this on amd64, and I have a patch that fixes the issue. Without this patch php5-recode is not usuable on amd64. The problem is that 043-recode_size_t.patch does not fixes the issue however it will be fixed in intrepid when it opens. To reproduce this issue on hardy you have to do the following: 1. Install php5, php5-cli, and php5-recode. 2. Run the following command: php -f recode-test.php 3. You will get a segmentation fault. ** Changed in: php5 (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged = Confirmed -- [SRU] recode function segfaults https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/219528 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to php5 in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 224791] Re: nut upsmon not observing it's config file
OK, I think I have a plausible hypothesis for my experience and a configuration change that makes the annoying WALL messages go away. First, although my battery is at 100% when I check is--and so the low battery message seems wrong, there is something else going on. I have a couple of things attached to the APC UPS and ups.load is very high. I have the sense that when ups.load crossed over from the 60% area into the 70% area a low battery condition was communicated to upsmon. If this hypothesis is correct, this may be just a design characteristic, not a driver bug. Second, upsmon seems to have some defaults that I didn't understand. I had commented out my normal LOWBATT configuration (NOTIFYFLAG LOWBATT SYSLOG+WALL+EXEC) to try to kill the WALL messages. That didn't work. What I ended up doing was setting LOWBATT to NOTIFYFLAG LOWBATT SYSLOG. This seems to have worked. There are now lowbatt messages in syslog, but no WALL messages. So, the upshot of all this is that I think I should withdraw the bug report. [Bug 189616] Re: connection problems under load with hardy dovecot
After some discussions, it seems that the problem is related to the login_max_processes_count option. The dapper version of dovecot wasn't enforcing this limit - this would explain why the dapper backport was working smoothly on hardy. Hardy version properly handles the login_max_process_count option. Moreover most of the clients are using imaps. According to http://wiki.dovecot.org/LoginProcess, the imap-login process acts as an SSL/TLS proxy in the case of ssl connections. Combined with the fact that imap clients such as thunderbird are known to open more than one imap connections, the maximum number of login processes can be hit with less than 50 users connected at the same time. I've attached a debdiff that logs a warning message when login_max_process_count is hit and no -login processes can be freed. It also add a note to the dovecot configuration. ** Changed in: dovecot (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium Status: Incomplete = In Progress -- connection problems under load with hardy dovecot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/189616 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dovecot in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 225101] [NEW] Not consistently following system colour schemes
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pgadmin3 Ubuntu release: 7.10 Program: pgAdmin III Version: 1.4.3 (May 21 2007) Using a dark colour scheme/gnome theme with light text causes text in the data editor of pgAdmin3 to be unclear, since the program uses the colour scheme for the text but not for the background. It is drawing the table and editboxes in white, and because I use light grey text in the current theme, it becomes almost unreadable. It is a minor bug, one that could be solved by changing my gnome theme, but I think this program should have an all or nothing approach to colour schemes. Either implement it on all things, or on nothing. As I suspect the text colour scheme is something that is implemented on component level, and not necessarily something the programmers of this project has anything to do with, it would be easier to implement colour schemes/gnome themes on all element/custom elements in the program, and leave the rest as is. ** Affects: pgadmin3 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Not consistently following system colour schemes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/225101 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

yes i'm referring for before as official release package status and now as after installing the package listed in proposed repository. Exactly there is no second rectangle listed. [Bug 224062] Re: Squashfs (?) errors during file copy (install phase)
Hmm, yes, with some google'ing around (keywords: squashfs zlib_inflate) there seem to be lot of (more or less) similar issues, resulting in and/or being caused by very similar SquashFS errors. Yet some (most) have no problems with that. So, is there anything that I could do to help pinpointing / isolating the actual problem, or making it possible to reproduce it in laboratory environment? One idea that I had (not sure if it would help, or if it is even possible to do) was to unsquash the installation disk beforehand, thus eliminating SquashFS from the installation process Or would this mean abadoning the whole installation process? [Bug 224176] Re: After Places,Search thumbnails wrong
I found this problem as follows:- 1. Click on 'Places' 2. In the places panel, click on 'search for files' 3. In the Search for files panel insert 'name contains' Jpg and 'look in folder' File system, click find. 4 In my system many jpg's are listed, often with incorrect thumbnails. ie the thumbnail displayed next to a filename is actually from a different file. There does not seem to be much logic as to which incorrect thumbnail is displayed, except that it is quite often the same incorrect thumbnail. Then click on an incorrect thumbnail and the correct image is displayed by Eye of Gnome. -- After Places,Search thumbnails wrong https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/224176 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 59695] Re: High frequency of load/unload cycles on some hard disks may shorten lifetime
This is most definitely a bug in the hard drive firmware settings in how quickly it parks the head after being idle. It affects MacOS X and Windows users along with Linux users in general not just Ubuntu. I have found posts on other sites referencing the problems for their users as well. The only thing those users were able to do about fixing the problem was to turn off the power management completely by doing the equivalent of hdparm -B 254 (setting the register to 0xFE). I have included links below referencing the problem showing up on the other OSes. Completely disabling power management however will cause the head never to park and if the system is jolted could potentially cause the hard drive heads to crash into the platter. So 'fixing' this across the board by disabling head parking altogether is not really a good solution either. Probably the only reason some users don't see this behavior under Windows but do under Linux is that their Windows install probably never allows the drive to be idle enough to park the head. This was the case on my machine before I cleaned off the OEM install which had lots of bloatware on it and reinstalled Vista from scratch, it would never stop writing to the disk. Which would also mean if the drive is jolted too hard it would crash as well. So no Windows doesn't have this problem 'fixed'. My post on ubuntuforums.org about it: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=4830919 MacOS X: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7055342 Windows: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=191167 So the ball is in the manufacturer's court in that they need to adjust the head parking idle time to something more sensible, or at least provide utilities that can allow the user to tweak the setting.
