I have not run karmic very often since reporting this bug since the rt
kernel has exhibited other problems making its use troublesome but that
particular issue seems to have gone away last time I checked. Sorry i
have not reported this earlier but then again, no one seemed interested.

FYI, this seems to be fixed in the 2.6.31-9rt kernel. fglrx builds

Update:
I have been able to finally get a big desktop dual monitor set up using
the proprietary fglrx driver but it was not very easy or clear cut how
to do so.
I eventually had to disable randr in /etc/X11/xorg.conf with the
following option added in the Driver section.

All you need to do is move the streams to the correct sink the next time
you start them. Pulseaudio defaults to the first device and directs

After spending the last 6 months helping people on the forums with sound

never have happened if pavucontrol was included in the default desktop
seed for Hardy and now Intrepid.
Someone needs to get a grip on this insane state of
Well, I managed to reconstitute the hardware configuration where I
originally encountered the issue which triggered this bug report and I
can report that the problem does not appear with Intrepid amd64 at
least.
I think I have a few 8.04.1 iso images around here somewhere. I will
give them a try
Funny you should ask, I just got intrepid installed for the first time
today, all it took was a new motherboard and incidental cpu and ram
upgrade. 8.04.1 would not even boot from a live cd on the original
hardware and neither would Intrepid.
I have not seen this in my Intrepid amd64 install but
I am not sure if this is the same bug, but it is very similar. I am
