system to test on. Can you verify the tar/gtar setup there? It would
seem to be a relatively easy change in the buildme.sh to define which
tar to use based on platform. This would make building on Solaris a bit

I looked into faad in the past and it looked like a real PITA to get
rolling on Solaris, and quite frankly, I have probably less than 10
aac/mp4s in my collection so mplayer will work for me.
Adding mp4 in my custom-convert.conf did the trick.

I've seen that error on my Solaris box when I forgot to change ownership
of the log files to the squeezecenter user from root. That's doing a
tarball install of course.

Solaris. You don't want that. You will probably need to add
/usr/loca/lib to your linker path by running crle -l
/lib:/usr/lib:/usr/local/lib. Do that only if it's picking up the

The temp file was a red herring on this one. Appender.pm was choking on
the log files because they were initially created by root, but after the
user transfer took place it could no longer write to them and gave the
error. See Bug 5035.

periodically hit the filecache for something. I suspect it has to do
with me running the RSS News Ticker and SuperDateTime screensavers.

SlimServer has it's own built-in webserver and doesn't use Apache. You
are free to use Apache for whatever else you'd like. There won't be
any port conflicts since SlimServer uses port 9000 and Apache will
typically use port 80.

The compiler error you are getting on YAML::Sync is because it's calling
cc instead of gcc. IIRC gcc uses the -fPIC flag and Sun CC uses the
-kPIC in your error message.

Almost certainly sounds like a permission problem. Make sure that the
prefs file allows the user SlimServer runs as to write to it, as well
as the directory it's in.

wife's iTunes collection on the XP box. I noticed that in the
pathnames in SlimServer it doesn't use quotes or backslashes, just

the 10.x.x.x range. Assign the Squeezebox a static IP in the same
range. No need for DHCP.

FWIW I just installed SlimServer 6.5.1 on Solaris 10 and I can't play
WMP either. I ripped a test track in WMA (not pro) and it wouldn't
play. My setup is straight from the tarball with only a couple of
non-audio related plugins installed.
