Re: help configuration smtp server

2017-08-11 Thread Richard Pérez
Dear Maxim and all:

After trying to understand and find solutions to my last issues with the
router, I have come to the conclusion that this is far out of my league and I
might run the risk of damaging my work trying to fix something for which I
don't have enough knowledge, least expertise.

Before leaving I'd like to sincerely and warmly thank all those who have tried
to help me understand how OM works and what it requires with no other interest
in mind, just sharing knowledge, but specially I'd like to thank Maxim Maximus
"The Genius", despite your last suggestion was the door to my downfall (reality
can be tough and kick you hard, but it's reality), I believe your work here is
really commendable, answering hundreds of emails very quickly and to the point
(those days I was away working, the amount of emails that accumulated in my
inbox were a true burden to read through in case something of value to my
particular needs could be useful - i just can´t imagine having to find
solutions and answer each one to pick up lost time).

I don't use emoticons so: clap, clap, clap.

Tharrrk, in case you read this, I tried to answer your personal emails but they
bounced back.

With my Best Regards to all,
(I'll wait for a week Maxim, in case anyone wants to answer this and then I'll
ask you to take me off the list, thanks).

Dear Tharrrk:

Many thanks for all your comments. Much food for thought, and to digest, too
much to take in, in just one gulp.
After I digest all your comments, specially your personal ones (as they have
been on my mind, but I'm not
sure if someone with my needs (and knowledge) should get into a self
administrated OS), I'd like to explain my
fears to you, if you are willing, and maybe you can convince me I'm wrong, but
I don't want to bore everyone in
this thread with personal things.

Thanks for your non-advert, I do something similar to not get spammed, but a
bit more simple: My name is R?i$c%h?a¿r, but some people keep on asking me
where is my email.

 Richard,
The problem (probably) is that you either...

   a) don't have a public IP at all (your ISP is
 doing NAT=network
address translation) and in that case you will never
 get it
   working from public internet;

   b) have a public IP assigned to router but don't
 have NAT enabled
on your router. In that case you will have to set up a
 DNAT rules
(if your router is able to do so) for every single
 port that OM
requires, or just put a range 80-65535. At that very
 moment your
"server" (did you mentioned windows?) is
 exposed to any attack
from the internet. You may still be unable to access
 "yourself"
over the public IP, due to some limitations in
 routing. You may
also have an option to put your local ip (192)
 into so-called
DMZ, which basically does the same.

Please read the basic docs for example here:
   http://whatismyipaddress.com/nat
--- do not read below if you are not interested in
 personal
   opinions ---

Anyway, you may still be limited by your internet
 connection
upload speed and even if OM would finally work for you
 it may be
hardly usable or would be a pain in the "S"
 for the invited.
My best recommendation would be to invest few bucks
 and use VPS.
Install the best tested OS (which one would you
 recommend btw
@Maxim ? :) CentOS? Ubuntu Server LTS?), follow
 instructions step
   by step

and YOU ARE DONE IN 30 MINUTES.
I've done so and I'm so happy now. I
 don't use OM for commercial
interest but my time spent on setup, amount of hair
 that would be
missing on my head, possible divorce and loosing a job
 for not
sleeping at all could hardly be compared to 3,5 EURO
 PER MONTH I
pay for VPS. Everything else is FREE. I don't want
 to make any
advertisements here but I use the very basic one
 (1x2,4GHz, 2GB
RAM, 10GB SSD) from a company which name is 3-letters
 long, the
first one looks like zero, the last one is H and the
 middle one
looks like backslash and forward slash glued together
 :D
And - what is the best for you in this case - you
 will LEARN A
LOT OF NEW THINGS during some time! :)
All the best and wish you good luck!!!

Checked my Gmail was allowing non secure Apps. Sent an
invitation without password to my Laptop connected to the
router by cable (it should have the same IP).

This didn’t work. My laptop can’t enter the room.

If this didn’t work, can’t one infer that my computer is
not firewalling entry?  Does this mean that the problem
either is in the Router (or my Internet service provider) or
something else not related to my computer?

Re: help configuration smtp server

2017-08-08 Thread Richard Pérez
Hello Maxim:

I still can’t get by the Timed-Out Connection…

Things done:

In Windows 10: Control Panel (Panel de Control) > Windows Firewall (Firewall de
Windows) > Advanced Settings (Configuración Avanzada) > Entry Rules (Reglas de
Entrada)

1) I exported all the data and found the ports I understand are open are:

Local Ports: 68, 80, 135, 137, 138, 139, 162, 443, 445, 546, 1701, 1723, 1900,
2177, 2869, 3390, 3540, 3587, 3702, 5353, 5355, 5357, 5358, 5985, 7235, 7250,
7680, 9955, 10243, 10244, 10245, 10246, 10247, 23555
554, 8554, 8555, 8556, 8557, 8558 (Media Center Extenders - RTSP (TCP de
entrada))
, 7778, 7779, 7780, 7781, 5004, 5005, 50004, 50005, 50006, 50007, 50008,
50009, 50010, 50011, 50012, 50013 (Media Center Extenders - WMDRM-ND/RTP/RTCP
(UDP de entrada))

Remote Ports:
67 (UDP; Program: %SystemRoot%\system32\svchost.exe)
547 (UDP; Program: %SystemRoot%\system32\svchost.exe)
7235 (UDP; Program: %systemroot%\system32\svchost.exe)

2) As port 80 seems to be open, I changed port 5080 for port 80 in:
\conf\red5.properties and \webapps\openmeetings\public\config.xml

And in red5’s frontend configuration:
application.base.urlhttp://181.myIP:80/openmeetings/

This worked for someone else, not for me.

In “\conf\red5.properties” I had:
# HTTP
http.host=0.0.0.0
http.port=5080
https.port=5443

I only changed “5080”, I did not edit the others.

3) I created new ports, for: TCP 5080, UDP 5080, TCP 1935, TCP 8443, TCP 8088,
TCP 8081
Allowing connection from Domain, Private and Public.
Control Panel (Panel de Control) > Windows Firewall (Firewall de Windows) >
Advanced Settings (Configuración Avanzada) > Entry Rules (Reglas de Entrada) >
New Rule (Nueva Regla)

This did not work.

4) Angry now, I disabled the Windows Firewall altogether. I also disabled my
Antivirus completely. I restarted my Router. I restarted my computer. I
entered my new IP into OpenMeetings settings and restarted red5 and
OpenMeetings. Checked my Gmail was allowing non secure Apps. Sent an
invitation without password to my Laptop connected to the router by cable (it
should have the same IP).

This didn’t work. My laptop can’t enter the room.

If this didn’t work, can’t one infer that my computer is not firewalling entry?
Does this mean that the problem either is in the Router (or my Internet
service provider) or something else not related to my computer?

I’d much appreciate if anyone can tell me what else I can do to find the
problem. Thanks.

 2) port is opened on all intermediate

Re: help configuration smtp server

2017-08-06 Thread Richard Pérez
Sorry Maxim for making you go through all that.
By then I was kind of tired and decided to dump the OM install and installed it
again.
After doing that I thought maybe the self-populating login form had
self-populated
the user and password with data of a previous install (Chrome saved data) and
as I
was tired I didn't notice the different user name. But, as I dumped it I can't
go back and
try other usernames and passwords. Maybe I cried wolf with no wolf around,
sorry about that.
Too much trying to understand readings out of my range.

Regards,

Richard

Something strange.
Now I can't get into Openmeetings. It says Username and/or password are
incorrect.
Was this due to disabling the firewall, disabling my antivirus or for using
telnet?

 Thanks Maxim.

 I have disabled my Antivirus (1), I
disabled Windows Firewall (2) and disabled both (3) and in all 3 cases a
telnet command: telnet 181.XXX.XXX.XXX 5080 delivers the following response:

 "Connecting to 181.XXX.XXX.XXX...
Connection to the host could not be opened in port 5080:
 Connection error
(my free translation from the Spanish
 version).

I'll Google this error to see what I
 can do. Thanks.

Re: help configuration smtp server

2017-08-05 Thread Richard Pérez
Something strange.
Now I can't get into Openmeetings. It says Username and/or password are
incorrect.
Was this due to disabling the firewall, disabling my antivirus or for using
telnet?

 Thanks Maxim.

 I have disabled my Antivirus (1), I
disabled Windows Firewall (2) and disabled both (3) and in
 all 3 cases
 a telnet command: telnet
181.XXX.XXX.XXX 5080 delivers the following response:

 "Connecting to 181.XXX.XXX.XXX...
Connection to the host could not be opened in port 5080:
 Connection error
(my free translation from the Spanish
 version).

I'll Google this error to see what I
 can do.  Thanks.

Please ensure

1) OM is running
2) port is opened on all intermediate servers (WI-FI router, corporate
firewall etc.)

Re: help configuration smtp server

2017-08-05 Thread Richard Pérez
Thanks Maxim.

I have disabled my Antivirus (1), I disabled Windows Firewall (2) and disabled
both (3) and in all 3 cases
a telnet command: telnet 181.XXX.XXX.XXX 5080 delivers the following response:

"Connecting to 181.XXX.XXX.XXX... Connection to the host could not be opened in
port 5080: Connection error
(my free translation from the Spanish version).

I'll Google this error to see what I can do. Thanks.

Re: help configuration smtp server

2017-08-04 Thread Richard Pérez
Finally I was able to send emails.

Thanks tharrk, the main problem was the port, I have to use port: 587
I also have to disable my antivirus while sending an email and leaving the
settings in my Gmail account as:
Settings > Accounts and Import > Change account settings > Other Google Account
settings > Sign-in & security > Connected apps & sites > Allow less secure
apps: ON
Apparently I don't need Gsuite although it still is in trial mode for another 4
days; I'll see in 4 days.
With this both a Hotmail and a yahoo account have received invitations from
inside a room.

I still have the problem though, that the links in the invitations don't work
neither clicking on the link or coping and pasting in the browsers (both IE and
Chrome). I have a dynamic IP and I've tried with the IP I had some days ago
and also the IP I had today.
I get: ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT

I'll have to keep on trying, but any suggestion would be much appreciated.

 Hello Richard,

I'm on linux here but yes, generally if
 your screen refreshes on windows
OS, you might consider port 465 open.
You can try with port 466 which is not
 open and see the difference.

What I would suggest is to try to setup
your account in any email client
 on that machine (i.e. thunderbird,
outlook..) and use the very same
 credentials with OM. Small things
matter - username has to include the
 @domain etc, sometimes it's difficult
to have the settings done correctly.

Please follow the gmail guides if you
 prefer to use their service:
 https://support.google.com/a/answer/176600
 https://support.google.com/mail/?p=BadCredentials
    (even it's for
IMAP, the same rules apply - you may
 need to go to
 https://accounts.google.com/DisplayUnlockCaptcha,
 etc.)

You may also try to use port 587 and
 set mail.smtp.starttls.enable = 1
 See https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/openmeetings-user/UY_P0tQoWGI
 and

http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/incubator-openmeetings-user/201203.mbox/%3cceaa10b3be8add43885aa9632d5820da1cc08...@adc.in.autorobinc.com%3E

I'm just a common user trying to help
;) Wish you the very best luck and
hope you will be happy with OM!

PS: I just tried to use gsmtp with
 openssl s_client -connect
 smtp.gmail.com:465 and realized I could
 not authorize with AUTH LOGIN.
Maybe google decided to only allow
OAuth (and I don't know if that is
supported in OM). I would personally
launch an SMTP server locally but
that's another story and another lot of
 things to take care of...

To be truthful Tharrrk I am less than a common user

user has fixed it before, some times by mere serendipity,

Thanks for sharing, I'll see if your links give me any light,

 Hello Richard,

I'm on linux here but yes, generally if
 your screen refreshes on windows
OS, you might consider port 465 open.
You can try with port 466 which is not
 open and see the difference.

What I would suggest is to try to setup
your account in any email client
 on that machine (i.e. thunderbird,
outlook..) and use the very same
 credentials with OM. Small things
matter - username has to include the
 @domain etc, sometimes it's difficult
to have the settings done correctly.

Please follow the gmail guides if you
 prefer to use their service:
 https://support.google.com/a/answer/176600
 https://support.google.com/mail/?p=BadCredentials
    (even it's for
IMAP, the same rules apply - you may
 need to go to
 https://accounts.google.com/DisplayUnlockCaptcha,
 etc.)

You may also try to use port 587 and
 set mail.smtp.starttls.enable = 1
 See https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/openmeetings-user/UY_P0tQoWGI
 and

http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/incubator-openmeetings-user/201203.mbox/%3cceaa10b3be8add43885aa9632d5820da1cc08...@adc.in.autorobinc.com%3E

I'm just a common user trying to help
;) Wish you the very best luck and
hope you will be happy with OM!

PS: I just tried to use gsmtp with
 openssl s_client -connect
 smtp.gmail.com:465 and realized I could
 not authorize with AUTH LOGIN.
Maybe google decided to only allow
OAuth (and I don't know if that is
supported in OM). I would personally
launch an SMTP server locally but
that's another story and another lot of
 things to take care of...

Hello Maxim:

I checked “Telnet Client” in Windows 10 Control Panel, then checked telnet was
enabled and I used the following command to check port 465:

telnet 181…myIP…. 465
and it delivered a blank cmd window. According to instructions I have seen
googling that would mean port 465 is not closed. I suppose that means it is
not “Firewalled”.

After sending an invitation (now instead of “localhost:5080” it says

javax.mail.MessagingException: Exception reading response

And I’m still getting:

I did another test, disconnecting my antivirus for 10 min, and got a different

RE: help configuration smtp server

2017-07-31 Thread Richard Pérez
Hello Coscend:

Thanks for your answer.
Let me see if I understand.
If one of my attendees receives this link:
http://localhost:5080/openmeetings/hash?invitation=.
He can only enter the room using my computer?
I suppose the same goes if I put my IP address instead of "localhost". Right?

I must say that link was created by my installed OM, in the room, with the form
to send an invitation.
If I can't use "localhost" in an invitation why does OM create that link
instead of something else. I can't edit that link on the frontend.

My current install has the following in config:
smtp_server smtp.gmail.com
smtp_port 465
system_email_addr myem...@mywebsite.com
email_username myem...@mywebsite.com
email_userpass my password for GSuite
mail.smtp.starttls.enable 1
application.base.urlhttp://localhost:5080/openmeetings/

I have noticed that when I change the "system_email_addr" in the Admin> Config,
the following log line does not change, it still shows the email I used as the
"user" email when I installed OM (myem...@mywebsite.com).

DEBUG 07-30 20:11:03.136 o.a.o.c.m.MailHandler:205 [taskExecutor-1] -
setReplyTo (email used to register when installing OM)

Is it possible my Admin >config is being overridden by my install info, and I
should re-install OM with some other info.
Any idea what info?

Thanks,

Richard

because I had to make sure I was enabling “Less secure apps” correctly
According to this page, to be able to enable “Less secure apps” I had to access
Google Admin Console, to be able to do this I had to create a GSuite account
with a non-gmail email from my website, verify my domain as usual, and
apparently I’m going to be invoiced if I want to keep on using this. After

the ocean, I finally installed OM with the following data:

smtp_server:smtp.gmail.com
smtp_port: 465
mail.smtp.starttls.enable: 1

I have tried to get emails sent from the room (Public Video And Whiteboard
Room) using the following email information:

system_email_addr 1) the email registered as the user email when
installing OM (my website email), It is the same email used as
Admin of Gsuite; 2) another gmail:
myem...@gmail.com
email_usernamemyemail@gmail or mygsuiteem...@mywebsite.com or my OM
username (not an email)

email_userpasspassword used to enter myem...@gmail.com or my password used
to enter mygsuiteem...@mywebsite.com or
  my OM password, respectively

Each time I changed the configuration in the frontend I logged out and
restarted Red5 to make sure changes were effective, then went into the room and
sent an email invitation (with password activated and having created the hash
link)

myGSuiteemail: if I had an email called john...@mywebsite.com managed through
my website, now I have an email with that same name managed through Google’s
Gsuite but although it looks like gmail.com it sends emails as if it were
john123 from my website.

What I have found in my OM log is the following (the same in all cases):

 In OM "mail.smtp.starttls.enable"
 should be "1"

In case of "unable to find valid
 certification path to requested
target" you most probably need to
update JRE (to get latest CAs)
If not try to import certificate chain
in catruststore of JVM (as was
 discussed earlier)

Re: help configuration smtp server

2017-07-25 Thread Richard Pérez
Many thanks Maxim

Persistence worked great (just shows persistence is a great philosophical
attitude)

BTW, when I failed to install, for different reasons, I noticed that if I tried
to restart Red5 after closing the cmd
window, Red5 would get blocked, and the only way to get it fully running again
was to delete the folder I had OM in,
and extract all the zipped files into a new folder again, that is, a new Red5.
Is this the usual situation? I have no problem
with unzipping OM again, each time it might be required, but I'm just curious
if I can be avoid this with some easy tweak.

Thanks again.

thanks Maxim for your congrats.  Yes, with not much work
available, being able to nail down a week long job is quite
a feat, something worth dancing around the office/room
 for.

 Thanks.

I'd like to get back to where I left this, if you have
 time to have a look.

I have tried to install OM 3.3.0 with both User and Password
textboxes empty in the Data Base form and also using

the word "user" as User.  When I use the word
"user" and specify the password as
"secret" I can keep on installing

till the final page where I get a string of error warnings
giving as Exception "There is no "user", or a
 similar wording".

If I leave those textboxes empty, as soon as I click on
"move to the next page" I get a red flag across
 the top of the

form (attached image) saying "The "Login"
field is mandatory", that is, I understand I have to
specify a "User".  I try to override this

clicking on the "move to the next page" button and
it is not possible.  If I use the word "user"
 without specifying

a password, I can move through but at the end I get the
error warnings giving the exception "There is no
 user".

I am using the Apache Derby (by default) database as it
 worked OK with OM 3.2.1

 Thanks,

Sorry, when I click reply it just picks up the "From" email not the "Cc" ones.
Didn't notice that.
This morning I got a job I'll have to work on full time so I think i'll take

 Hello Richard,

please do not write personal emails,
 write to the list instead

DB user and password and not being
 "prefilled" since 3.3.0 due to
 security reasons
 You have to create DB
database/user/password and enter this data to OM
Internal DB works even with no
 user/pass ...

 What DB are you using?

Hello Richard,

please do not write personal emails, write to the list instead

DB user and password and not being "prefilled" since 3.3.0 due to
security reasons
You have to create DB database/user/password and enter this data to OM
Internal DB works even with no user/pass ...

What DB are you using?

been doing is copy pasting the commands in the Red5 command

by a certain amount of time).  Sorry, but in some tests I
forgot to register the precise time, but I have highlighted
most, if not all, exceptions in the PDF.

Re: help configuration smtp server

2017-07-13 Thread Richard Pérez
Hello:

I was "listening" in to this one because I'm suffering the same inability to
send emails,
I get the same error messages.

I have tried with yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail and my website's email, with my
Antivirus disconnected or not, with Chrome's "less secure" active or not, with
465, 443, 587, 80, enabled, not enabled, and nothing works with sending an
invitation while in a room (haven't found yet any other way of sending an
invitation).

Could you please tell me what do you mean by:

"Open OS and software firewall SMTP ports.
Set hardware firewall policies NAT allow from your server to WAN."

I looked for the Firewall settings:
Firewall Settings > Apps allowed
These are the ones not allowed that I feel might be related
--
Captura SNMP (SNMP capture?)
Esta característica permite que este equipo pueda recibir el tráfico del
Servicio de captura de SNMP.

Enrutamiento y acceso remoto (Routing and remote access?)

(Usa HTTPS)

Servicio iSCSI (ISCSI service?)

---

I have also seen the advanced Firewall Settings ("Entry rules" and "Exit
rules", I have a Spanish version of Windows 10), but I don’t know what/if I
should change.

I wanted to use Gmail as my option for sending emails. Excuse my ignorance,
but should I get my own CA certificate or do I get it from Gmail. Do I have to
do something to earn it?
My website is HTTPS thanks to a SSL certificate delivered by CPanel (the free
version). If I used my website's email as sender and system email (it would be
the same email I signed up to OpenMeetings with) would this certificate be
equivalent to the CA certificate you mention?

I have been reading about some Certificate installing procedures but they seem
outdated (jre 1.6)
http://s-n-ushakov.blogspot.com/2013/11/yet-another-installcert-for-java-now.html
https://javaee.github.io/javamail/InstallCert

I haven't found a way to download or export the CPanel certificate (if I can)
but have some details:
Certificate ID:, Domains:, Key Size:, Expiration:, and the Issuer: cPanel,
Inc., however I have noticed that CPanel is not among the trusted CAs (I
understand it's a "Comodo" certificate.

If I insist on Gmail can I use the CPanel one or would I have to buy a CA
certificate? or would you suggest getting a free one if buying is not possible?

Thanks,

Richard Pérez-Mongard

Hello,

This error "unable to find valid certification path to requested target"
usually means certificate chin is not recognized to be secure
I believe you need to import your CA certificate will all intermediate
certificates to JRE (jre/lib/security/cacerts)

Hello Maxime,

In the spirit of assisting you, here are a few vectors to resolve your
issue:
Issue: "unable to find valid certification path to requested target

Suggestions:
1. OM configuration issue:
Configure Admin -> Configuration

Smtp_server: this is the smtp server to send messages.
Smtp_port: this is the smtp server port normally 25 or 80, if using no SSL,
otherwise 443 if using SSL encrypted e-mail.
System_email_addr: all sent e-mails by the system including invitations
will have this address:

Email_userpass: the password of your e-mail's username
Mail.smtp.starttls.enable: 0 (if above 25 or 80) or 1 (if above is 443)
Enable TLS 1=true, 0=false

For example, in GMail,

Smtp_server: smtp.gmail.com
Smtp_port: Port 465 (SSL required)
Port 587 (TLS required)

2. Additional: Firewall
Open OS and software firewall SMTP ports.
