You should use something like:

sudo dnf install ./*.rpm ./desktop-integration/*freedesktop*.rpm

The "redhat-menus" package is not suitable for Fedora.

Only one of the packages in desktop-integration/ must be installed, and
for Fedora the "freedesktop" one is the right choice.

We've decided to fix it at last and you can see the first part (getting

As soon as we get Infra to act on that, mail from the Templates site

Indeed it looks like there is a bug somewhere.

I tried to register to https://forum.openoffice.org/it/forum/index.php
with a test user.

This is what I used:

Firma: Includi la tua versione di OpenOffice e il sistema operativo su
cui è installata

and here I wrote "OpenOffice 4.1.8 Linux" and I recommend that you do
the same; you can change it after registration in case, but this one
surely works.

Then I got asked

"Come si chiama il database di Open Office?"

and I obviously answered "Access" and it insisted it was wrong.

I retried three times, and different modules would show up in the
question, and the third time it succeeded when, being asked about the
text editor, I wrote "Writer" (note it's not Write but Writer).

This might be a caching issue on the forum. So my recommendation is that
you try multiple times and always use "Writer" as the answer.

Please, if you try, let us know more details so that we can better
investigate the possible bug.

At a point it was believed that the original problem was the decision to

install a fresh 4.1.7 and keep using it.

This would also explain why other programs don't have the issue, if they

Focusing on what we can do now, I'd say the easiest thing to do is a

reading the list of (mostly nonsense) recipients you assembled it is
hard to believe yours is a genuine e-mail on behalf of Microsoft.

Still, I'll answer your question buried under layers and layers of mails
below: no, we are not going to change the robots.txt policy on our
Templates site just because you ask for it.

It doesn't make any sense from a technical point of view and you should
have noticed it too before asking: content on that site is extremely
static, so more frequent visits from bots are absolutely useless to you
and us.

As for your final request to "please let us know if we can bypass the
rule and get your pages indexed properly"... it's obviously another no,
for the same reasons.

In short, we are not going to change the robots.txt configuration as
your proposal doesn't really make sense for the site you mention.

https://openoffice.apache.org/mailing-lists.html and please note that I
am unable to follow up with personal conversations (i.e., please reply
to the list if you reply).

I think we already support most of your requests. There is a keyboard
shortcut for the spell-checker (F7 but may depend on language) and the
Menu key triggers the local menu for adding/ignoring etc.

2. If the spell check facility is improved to allow inclusion of external
text files as reference files for spell check then one can have his own
custom built spell check file that will eventually result in lesser and
lesser time being spent on spell check. In 4.1.7 (En-US) "Writer" I could
not find the path to the spell check file like custom.dic of Word 2000.

We support custom dictionaries, just I'm not sure they are in the form
of text files. You add to these dictionaries from the interface. See
documentation (press F1) for more.

3. Macro facility of Word 2000 does not allow external txt files to
attached in a VB project thereby limits the spell check correction and it
cannot be increased to several thousands of corrections. I get an error on
an Lenovo I3 L412 after the vb code length increases more than 2200 words
per file and has therefore resulted in entering about 45 files to the spell
check macro whenever I format the device. Generally format of the device is
to be done after about a month. The OS being used is Win XP sp2.

I don't see a need for using a macro for this task.

4. I have not been able to use the available "Autocorrect" facility on the
spell check popup window. My suggestion would be to use this tab
exclusively for the user to have his own spell check system:
a) a few attachable, modifiable and increasable txt dict reference files.
b) a macro facilitation that is able to correct a few thousand already
corrected and recorded strings/ string sequences (an ocr text can present
even a simple word as: "Pres-ident" "butthe" "isan" etc.
c) Auto text entries that are too frequently needed to be corrected.

The autocorrect works mostly the way you describe, with the exception
that it is not based on text files (so you need to manage it through the
UI) and that you setup it manually in the preferences (not in the popup).

  Andrea.

partially outdated but still mostly valid indications.
https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Adding_a_new_language_or_locale

Now, we usually use a country code for the second part of the full code;
so it_IT would mean "Italian, the way it is spoken/written in Italy" and
it_CH would mean "Italian, the way it is spoken/written in Switzerland".

This is the only controversial part I see in your proposal. You may want

it does (i.e., your "change" above is a configuration change), I don't
see big issues. If the "change" you mention is, instead, a code change
requiring to run a custom version of ezmlm, I think Infra won't allow us
to do it due to the obvious maintenance burden that comes with
custom-built software.

I concur this is an example of a user that, while he managed to solve it
in the end, is quite problematic, noisy, and won't follow any advice
longer than one line (even though he succeeded when he finally tried).
And our solution is easy but not super-easy.

I see three ways (two requiring OpenOffice development) to solve this:

1. An OpenOfficeProfileFixer.exe (so to say; I'm note referring to
something that exists) file that simply renames the user profile under
Windows. This will cover the large majority of the clueless users. This
can exist as a separate tool, hosted by an OpenOffice committer is his
personal space at apache.org.

2. An option to "start clean" at install time, that renames a possibly
existing OpenOffice profile.

3. A Tools - Reset default settings menu item that renames the profile
at the next restart of OpenOffice.

There is nothing to fix in the OpenOffice code. Profile corruption
happens due to many factors, but it is not linked to OpenOffice in a
clear way: it involves user profiles that are carried over from
OpenOffice 2.x or 3.x and may already be damaged but working.

So in the end one of the three options above is the best mitigation.

  Andrea.

OK. This is expected if you didn't import the keys. For it to succeed,
download to the same directory:
1.
http://archive.apache.org/dist/openoffice/4.1.4/binaries/en-US/Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.4_Linux_x86-64_install-rpm_en-US.tar.gz.asc

Then run:
$ gpg --import KEYS
$ gpg --verify
Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.4_Linux_x86-64_install-rpm_en-US.tar.gz.asc

This will tell you that the .tar.gz file has a valid signature by Jim,
Release Manager for 4.1.4. It might still complain that it can't verify
that the key belongs to the reported owner, but you will have to trust
the KEYS file for this.

This won't solve your problem with YaST at all, since this applies to
the archive as a whole, not to the contents.

What command do you use for installation? RPM directly, something like
"rpm -Uvh *.rpm"? Or some interface to it? There is probably some
setting that you should disable in order for it to trust "unsigned"
packages (again, ours ARE signed; just, we sign the archive but not
the individual packages).

I use the Yast software software management utility. I create a
repository by copying the contents of the downloaded file to a directory
and then tell the Yast software management to update. I've been using
this method for years and it's never failed before.

I don't think this depends on how we packaged 4.1.4. I would be
surprised if you get something different with 4.1.3, or any earlier
release. Is it possible that some upgrade enforced YaST to reject
unsigned packages?

I see the same error being reported here:
https://github.com/atom/atom/issues/15418 for another project, and being
tracked down to a YaST/OS issue. In that case they could solve it by
signing the package, but in our case we already sign the .tar.gz, just
YaST likely cannot see or handle it. So you will have to disable some
YaST settings to get it to behave as it did in earlier times.

Coming back to the original technical issue...

We only sign the .tar.gz archive and signatures are in the .asc file
corresponding to the archive you downloaded. So in your case the
signature could be verified this way:
1. Download
http://archive.apache.org/dist/openoffice/4.1.4/binaries/en-US/Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.4_Linux_x86-64_install-rpm_en-US.tar.gz.asc
2. Run gpg --verify
Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.4_Linux_x86-64_install-rpm_en-US.tar.gz.asc

This will let you verify the GPG signatures; it will probably still give
you warnings and errors if you haven't imported the keys, but we can
discuss this separately in case.

Now coming to your issue, it seems that the software you are using for
the installation is instead demanding that the individual RPM packages
within the archive are signed, which is not the case (as we sign the
archive as a whole).

What command do you use for installation? RPM directly, something like

OpenOffice currently support update notifications; provided you enabled

The notification leads you to the download page, where you can download

While Martin's answer is correct, the custom dictionary feature is meant
to be used for short personal wordlists, like the names of people or
places you type often. If you want to build a dictionary for a language,
you will want to build a language extension. The starting point is a
pair of .dic/.aff files in Hunspell format; if you don't know how to
generate them, you can refer to the Hunspell documentation.

The benefits of creating a Hunspell dictionary are:
- You only need to add the base word: for example, in English you add
"visit" and automatically you get "visits", "visited", "visiting"...
- The generated dictionary can be used in many open-source programs,
such as Firefox and Thunderbird.

Creating Hunspell dictionaries goes beyond the purpose of this mailing

It is. But it is updated only when a build is successful, and the build

As it is implemented now, the minimum level. See

I realize I was missing some parts because this list does not allow

I've now updated the screenshot above with an image from the PDF file.
It seems that text still looks OK, except for descendants like "p", "y"

Is this the same you are seeing? Could you put your attachments

You can do this also without a table. OpenOffice Writer has a "Sort"
command that does the right thing.

So, for example, if you have a Writer document like

London
Rome
Paris

and you select all, then Tools -> Sort, you will be able to sort lines
without creating a table.

Leaving all the SourceForge discussion aside, one reasonable explanation
for this last question is that the vast majority of Apache mirrors do
NOT mirror OpenOffice: those who do are a minority. I've just tried with
the Italian mirrors and only 2 out of 7 offer OpenOffice. Load balancers
are broken by this incomplete mirroring: even if you try to download the
source package http://openoffice.apache.org/downloads.html you often
have to try multiple mirrors before getting one that works.

In short, the ASF mirror network is not nearly as complete and reliable
as it seems at a first look (besides having other issues such as lack of

No, nothing from SourceForge appears on the openoffice.org domain. We
simply link to binary files provided by them.

All the JavaScript is custom and stored in SVN. People without
JavaScript see this notice:

  ---
Apache OpenOffice Downloads - Official Site

The browser seems to have JavaScript disabled. This technique is used
for showing the actual download link. If you want to download Apache
OpenOffice anyway, click this text to choose from the alternative
download webpage. You will have to navigate to the
version/binaries/language subfolder and and download the file named
Apache_OpenOffice_version_os_platform_package_language.ext. Our
apologies for the inconvenience.

  ---
Considering that we are in 2015 (I mean: people who browse without
Javascript are doing it deliberately and are having a non-standard
browsing experience on most sites), this is already more than enough.

The "click this text" above links to
http://sourceforge.net/projects/openofficeorg.mirror/files/ (surprise!
this is where it comes from) and from there, without JavaScript, one can
indeed browse to the folder and download OpenOffice with a mostly
painless procedure (and no ads will be displayed).

Note: There's a typo ("and and") in the above text, I've just fixed it
in revision 1714258.

Maybe you got confused by the notice at the above URL saying:
  ---
Looking for the latest version? Download
Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.1_Linux_x86-64_install-rpm_en-US.tar.gz (161.1 MB)

Of course that page does offer 4.1.2 (just scroll down), but the URL you
posted should never be used. As Rory wrote,
http://www.openoffice.org/download is the only URL we advertise. And,
unless one is seeing outdated content due to caching, you download 4.1.2
from there.

I think Marcus (in CC) updated the "Latest version" field back at the
time; Marcus, if you know how to update it to 4.1.2 (it is probably done
in the SourceForge project admin panel) it would be good. It is probably
a setting in the project admin panel somewhere, if you don't remember
if/how you did it I can take a look too.

That is merely a check for update. If an update is shown a available you must
download and install it as a separate action.

Additionally, it is expected that 4.1.1 does not report any updates at
the moment. To avoid traffic peaks, we will enable update notifications
gradually in the next 7-10 days. See

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/AOO+4.1.2
for the detailed plan (you will see that the update feeds are the only
item still kept on hold).

Anyway, Rory is right: the check for update just sends you to the
download page. So it is perfectly equivalent to opening the website and
then downloading/installing the new version.

No need to worry. If delivery is regular except for very occasional

And yes, it seems that the message your mail server sent back was either
