Hello XWiki-users,

has anyone gone somewhat far with the free-tier of some cloud provider?
I know there is the myxwiki.org farm, but I wanted to know of alternatives.
For example, two years ago, the GSoC student Savitha managed to run for a while
on EC2, but at the end she reached, I think, a limit in the amount of DB
requests. It would be interesting to know if others have gone somewhat far.

I would prefer a somewhat automated way to do that, using a potentially paid
long-life, so that it can open the door to a first development followed by a
promotion to a real project.

thanks in advance.

Re: [xwiki-users] Wiki page seems to have two parents?

It's rather that there are 2 translations of the page with different parents.
I've been experiencing similar issue.

In that case, I am in the "weird section" :-)

Here's what I am doing:

1) Create a new page, type some text, hit "Save & View". The page is created in
the correct space, with the correct parent.
2) I edit the page, use "Import"-->"Office Document" and import a small docx
document. The import is succesful, but as soon as the import is done, the
parent of the page is "erased".
3) If I delete the page, it will be moved to the recycle bin, I then have the
option to "restore" or "delete". I hit "delete" --> I will get a warning that
this can't be undone (which is what I expect), but if I hit "ok", I don't get
the "The requested document could not be found. You can edit this page XXX to
create it", but XWiki creates a new blank page instead.

So something weird is going on when using the Import Office Document (in the
WYSIWYG editor).

Re: [xwiki-users] [myxwiki] new wiki request

2014-03-16 Thread Roman Muntyanu
In order to avoid such issues in future I suggest changing the info section :

{{info}}
If you're interested in having a wiki hosted on this farm please follow steps:
 1. Register on myxwiki.org (this wiki)
 1. Send a standard email to the [[XWiki user mailing
list>>http://dev.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Community/MailingLists]] providing
details
1*. **subject**: ##[myxwiki] new wiki request##{{footnote}}This is a
well-known mail strategy to allow users to filter their emails easily by
setting rules (for example"move all emails with [myxwiki] in the subject to a
myxwiki mail folder").
It also makes emails easier to read when you read just the subject line in your
mail reader.
{{/footnote}}
1*. **description**: give a brief description of what you want to use this
wiki for
1*. **user name**: the name you have registered with on step 1
1*. **server name**: the name that will be used before .myxwiki.org to
access the wiki.

Then one of the community Admins will create it for you.
{{/info}}

I can also prepare an email template that can be attached to the page.

Subject: [xwiki-users] Newly created pages with attachments are shown as
orphaned

Hi everybody,

I have a problem with the breadcrumb feature. When I create a new page and fill
it with images or when I let it create through the import of an office
document, then, after saving it, it appears as an orphaned page and I can do
nothing to change it. After hitting the breadcrumb button in the editor the
correct tree appears, but after saving the page it is still an orphaned page.
This happens for me on XWiki Versions 3.0 and 4.3.1.

I reproduced it by creating a link to a new page. Then i clicked on the link,
which had the little questionmark, and added an image. After that I saved it
and even though the correct tree was shown while editting the page it was saved
as an orphaned page.
When I first write something on the empty page and save it and open the page
again in the editor and add an image and save it again the correct tree is
shown.

So my question is how can I "repair" the incorrect trees.

Regards,
Robert

Hi,

BTW, I prepared a working build for the macro, retrieving sources for version
1.0.1 from xar.

I chose the following coordinates for the build:
  org.xwiki.contrib
  xwiki-macro-tabs
  1.0.1

It worked ok when importing the generated xar in a 4.4.1 XE.

May I push it to the contrib project ? Or Roman if you prefer I can send it to
you, so you can push it by yourself.

Re: [xwiki-users] Tabs Macro

2013-02-26 Thread Roman Muntyanu
Hi guys :)

"Creators" are OK with either approach ;)
We're glad that it's not only us who make use of the macro :)

I have put "not compatible" with 4.x, because the macro refused to work on our
4.2 installation. After investigation it turned out that for some reason JS
extension's "Use this extension" property (of the macro page) was set to "On
demand" instead of "Always", so it should be updated as well in the repository.

Cool

What would be great Jeremie is if you could contact the creators of the Tabs
Macro extension and ask them if they're ok to publish their project on
xwiki-contrib (or on their own github which we would fork in xwiki-contrib's
github).

Alternatively what you could do, is simply set up a project in xwiki-contrib
based on the published 1.0.1 sources and just let the original creators know
about it (this is possible since the sources are under LGPL).

WDYT?

Thanks

Re: [xwiki-users] xWiki server is slow

2013-02-05 Thread Roman Muntyanu
Some time ago we also had performance issues.
In our case it was 4GB + 2 CPU, 32 bit virtual machine running on CentOS 5.4.
Database (MySQL 5.0.70) was on the same server.
Tomcat 6.x.
We had ~25 active users of wiki and ~1.5K documents.

In addition we had our Jenkins, Sonar and Archiva running on the same Tomcat.
This has led to high memory usage (especially perm gen which was set for 512M)
and actually we have allocated all the memory we could under 32 bit. But still
responsiveness grew slower with time (due to often GC) and eventually we got
OOM.

Problem was solved by migrating to 64 bit Centos 5.8 and setting -Xmx4096M
-Xms4096M -XX:MaxPermSize=512M
We have also increased cache capacity from 500 to 1000 documents

Hope this info helps :)

@XWiki-committers: I think it would be a good idea of publishing system
requirements depending on the number of concurrent users and amount of
documents in the database.

Stephanie,

I'm also very interested in anything you come up with, or whether anyone has
additional thoughts on making an "offline" copy. I'm not sure whether my
situation is similar to yours or not, but I'll explain a few things I've tried
so far in case it helps either of us.

Short version - has anyone successfully used Wget to mirror an XWiki instance?

What I ultimately would like is an offline archive of an XWiki instance that is
totally independent of needing a servlet container or database (even
standalone).

I understand Arnaud's suggestion to use a standalone XWiki instance to create
an offline backup, but unfortunately that is too complicated for most of my
users to access.

In my circumstance, I have an XWiki instance that needs to "reset" at the
beginning of each year, and then need to keep an archive of each full year's
worth of contributions to the wiki. So I end up with a separate XWiki database
for each year. This is quickly becoming cumbersome and eating up a lot of
server resources to keep all of them online.

I would like for an average user to be able to download an "archive" of a
particular year's wiki instance so I no longer need to host it "live."

One other consideration - almost all of the page content in each wiki instance
is stored in objects attached to each page that are then retrieved with
velocity and formatted with javascript. And most pages have a large number of
attachments.

Things I have tried:

1) HTML/PDF export - Like Stephanie, this doesn't work for me since it doesn't
maintain navigation or scripting.

2) Standalone XWiki instance - this has proved just too complicated for my
users. I'd prefer some type of archive in a flat file/HTML format if at all
possible.

3) Wget - This seems to be the most promising option so far, since it's
supposed to make a totally offline recursive mirror of the site. My attempts so
far have been mixed - I can get some of the page content to download, but
struggle with getting a completely working copy. I've also tried a few other
"offline archiver" type programs, but none have worked better than Wget. If
someone has successfully used Wget to mirror an XWiki site, I'd love to hear
about it.

Any other ideas?

Thanks,

aaron

Re: [xwiki-users] Annotations-comments merge validation

2012-11-10 Thread Roman Muntyanu
I do have annotations that use custom class. Trying to upgrade to 4.2 with
enforce option I received this
WARN h.R40001XWIKI7540DataMigration - Skipping database [xwiki] because it
uses a custom annotation class. Comments and anotations will remain separated

Feeling tells me that if I delete annotations that use custom class, restarting
tomcat with enforced option will pass.
Question is how do I delete those annotations? (My database does not contain
any *annotation* table, and comments table is empty.)

Eduard,

Even with such a detailed explanation I still have questions :) (hopefully
final ones)

I have ran the script and half of my annotations are in the old group. I have
tried opening corresponding pages but those annotations won't show up.
Annotations from new group were created after the upgrade to 4.1.3.

I will not be able to check if I used custom annotation before upgrade -
because I have no possibility to restore previous version of the system. I
don't remember myself modifying annotation to be something custom (maybe when
annotations were an early extension), yet that was the error I received upon
upgrade.
About custom mapping - I don't know what that is at all.

If we assume that I don't care about the old annotations, will simply upgrading
to 4.1.4 with xwiki.store.migration.force=R40001XWIKI7540 solve the issue? How
do I junk old annotations in such case? (I have tried force migration flag with
4.1.3 and the result was all annotations moved to "new" group, but still
nothing was displayed on corresponding pages except for annotations created
after initial upgrade to 4.1.3)

Hi Roman,

The 4.1.3 release had a couple of problems [1], including one that
unintentionally skipped the annotations migration. The 4.1.4 release fixed this
problem [2], amongst others, and it would be what I recommend you to use
instead of 4.1.3.

I`m not sure if your case fits into the problems specific to 4.1.3 (though it
probably does), but to test if you have annotations that respect the new
format, you could run this piece of velocity code:

{{velocity}}
New annotations: $services.query.hql(", BaseObject comment, BaseProperty
selection WHERE comment.name=doc.fullName AND
comment.className='XWiki.XWikiComments' AND selection.id.id=comment.id AND
selection.name='selection'").execute()
Old annotations: $services.query.hql(", BaseObject annotation WHERE
annotation.name=doc.fullName AND
annotation.className='AnnotationCode.AnnotationClass'").execute()
{{/velocity}}

It will list the documents that contain annotations in the new format and
documents that contain annotations in the old format (not migrated).
Basically the new format is XWiki.XWikiComments class instead of the old
AnnotationCode.AnnotationClass, with the addition that the XWikiComments
objects also have the "selection" property set to whatever was selected when
the annotation was made.

If it turns out that you have old annotations, then you need to check 2
things:
1) That you were not using a custom annotations class before the upgrade, that
is a class that is different from AnnotationsCode.AnnotationsClass
2) That you are not using a custom mapping for the comments If you are in one
of the 2 cases above, then you will not be able to migrate to merged
annotations and comments (ad keep using annotations as
before) because the migration does not support the 2 cases. See the Jira issue
[3] on this matter for more details.

If you are not in one of the 2 cases above, then you need to upgrade to
4.1.4 (or above) and to also force the annotations migration to run again.
To force the migration, once you have upgraded normally to 4.1.4, you have
to:
1) set your annotations class to AnnotationCode.AnnotationClass (By going into
Administration > Applications > Annotations > XWiki class defining annotations
structure)
2) edit xwiki.cfg and specify that you want to force the annotations migration
to be executed by adding the following line:
xwiki.store.migration.force=R40001XWIKI7540
2.1) also make sure that the migrations process itself is enabled
(xwiki.store.migration=1) and that it is enabled for all your wikis if you are
in a miltiwiki environment (xwiki.store.migration.databases=all)
3) restart your wiki and watch the logs as the migration should report that it
is being executed
4) check the results by running the velocity script from the first part of my
mail.

[xwiki-users] Annotations-comments merge validation

2012-11-08 Thread Roman Muntyanu
Hello,

I'm trying to validate if upgrade where annotations have been merged with
comments was successful (3.5->4.1.3).
select * from xwikicomments;
returns me 0 records, even though I definitely have page where I have
annotations and I as well see them as comments in the bottom of the page.

How can I check if annotations are where they should be?

Roman

MySQL.

For example, ATM virtual mode is not supported for PostgreSQL AFAIK.

[xwiki-users] What is recommended DB for XWiki?

2012-11-06 Thread Roman Muntyanu
Hello,

As we are currently migrating our XWiki server to 64bit platform I believe I
have freedom to consider switching DB.
We are currently using 32bit MySQLv5.0.77 (innodb engine, 500M of attachments
stored in-db) so the options are

· Upgrade to MySQLv5.6.x

· Migrate to PostgreSQL 8.1 (via XWiki export/import as xar backup
feature)

The question is: which of those databases is more supported? (mostly used for
development, supported by admin application, etc)

We are on XWiki 4.0

We want to remove an attachment (71.7Mb) from a page, but we get an Internal
Server Error (displayed in red at the bottom of the wiki page)!

How can I delete that (large) attachment?

Not sure where is the best place.
http://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/Configuration is more for
xwiki.cfg/xwiki.properties files but that could do it too, another general
place for this could also be somewhere in
http://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/Installation.

The Extension Manager documentation is on
http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/Extension+Module
and
http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/Extension+Manager+Application
(more UI oriented), might be a good idea to put a warning there since there is
not much other module that require access to Internet from the server.

I've modified //bin/catalina.sh and added proxies to JAVA_OPTS
variable definition:

JAVA_OPTS="$JAVA_OPTS -Dappserver.home=$CATALINA_HOME

XWiki use default Java proxy configuration through Apache httpclient.
See http://docs.oracle.com/javase/6/docs/technotes/guides/net/proxies.html
for more details.

Re: [xwiki-users] Something wrong with extension repository

2012-07-16 Thread Roman Muntyanu
Indeed, setting header param 'Accept: application/xml' I receive proper
response.

I'm able to wget the page with following command
  wget --header='Accept: application/xml'

However XWiki does not see the repository (I get connection refused). Which I
believe is related to wiki sitting behind corporate proxy.

How do I tell XWiki to use proxy for outbound connections?

(I previously have it set in the /etc/environment file and also exported from
command line, which does not help anymore)

All I can say is that I can search extensions when I'm in a fresh Extension

to put "application/xml" as Accept header and only this one (browser also put
html mime type first).

Note that this error is "expected" and is caused by a Restlet bug with

Re: [xwiki-users] Devoxx Belgium talk submission ideas

2012-07-04 Thread Roman Muntyanu
Hello Vincent,

The most interesting presentations I saw were based on real experience and
included live demos. So I like all of the demos you've listed below (especially
"quality dashboard" and "web site live").

My 2 cents on potentially interesting content (from devoxx attendee the point
of view):

> Methodology
Remember that survey about XWiki community and development process by Martin
Schonberger?
http://xwiki.475771.n2.nabble.com/Questions-concerning-the-development-of-XWiki-Final-Round-td7566339.html

It's a good material for presentation about open source project evolution (how
new challenges triggered new perception and new solutions).

> Architecture, Cloud and Security
  * A hands-on lab on deploying wiki farm to the cloud (can be combined
with presentation describing xwiki architecture with regard to cloud
deployment). Maybe even make the presentation more generic (to attract more
audience) - to touch the topic of modern cloud deployment and management
(http://jelastic.com/ ; http://www.cloudbees.com/ ;
http://www.cloudfoundry.com/ ) and deploy XWiki farm to the cloud as an example.
  * Also on architecture part - there can be a good presentation on
"Refactoring to Modularity" (or "Refactoring to Maven"?) - how the need for
modularity emerged and how XWiki has been refactored (all with samples of
"before" and "after").
  * (Speaking of Maven) XWiki project is unique in terms of number of Maven
modules - so presentation like "Maven: One tool to rule them all" would be
interesting from pure practical standpoint.

> A quick history of wikis (Quickie: 15 mn) Shows evolution of wikis since
> their creation and where wikis are heading in the future
For this one I can suggest source where I have collected many ideas
http://prezi.com/nymm70tfdird/next-gen-collaboration-wikis/ . Maybe you'll find
something useful.

Good luck with the show! Looking forward to see your speeches on
http://www.parleys.com/#st=3&id=189

Btw, when preparing those demos - most likely the presenter will practice it
several times. We can kill 2 birds with one stone if presenter records his
training speeches in order to provide video guides/tours on YouTube (one thing
XWiki currently lacks).

Regards,
  Roman

Subject: [xwiki-users] Devoxx Belgium talk submission ideas

Hi everyone,

I'm about to submit some talk proposals related to XWiki for Devoxx Belgium
(http://www.devoxx.com/display/DV12/Home).

I was thinking it might be good to ask you what you think should be best that I
present related to XWiki. What would you like to hear yourself at a general
conference like Devoxx?

The tracks they have this year:

* Java Standard Edition (JDK 8++)
* Java Enterprise Edition (focus on Java EE 7 and beyond)
* Web (includes HTML5, JavaScript, CSS3 and RIA technologies)
* Mobile (includes Android, Hybrid and mobile web)
* Methodology
* Other languages on the JVM
* Architecture, Cloud and Security
* Future is a brand new Devoxx track. Here we'll embracing the world
where software meets hardware and schedule talks on walking objects (think
NAO's, lots of NAO's), interactive objects like Arduino, but also intelligent
flying and real-time rolling devices! Basically anything that feels happy in
the Future :o)

The formats they have available:

* Conference (60 mn)
* University (University talks are in depth presentations of 2 x 60 minutes
with a 15 minute break in between. )
* Tools in Action (Tools in Action are 30 minute presentations demonstrating a
programming tool.)
* BOF (BOF sessions are 60 minutes long, scheduled in the evening and are
informal.)
* Quickie (Short 15 minute presentations during Lunch breaks)
* Hands-on Labs (3 hour hands-on sessions. )

Some ideas I have (from talks I've done in the past or new ideas):

* XWiki: A web development runtime platform

* XWiki: The Long tail of applications
Explain how XWiki addresses the long tail of application (see
http://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Main/SecondGenerationWiki)
Show lots of nice implementations of XWiki done for various use cases + present
architecture and main concepts

* Hands on: Create a Conference web site live (1 hour or up to 3 hours if we do
it as a Hands on lab) See

Re: [xwiki-users] monitoring tools?

2012-05-14 Thread Roman Muntyanu
We use Nagios + http://www.pnp4nagios.org/ to monitor status of our XWiki
server (single instance).
It provides us with history records and charts on vast set of parameters (CPU
load, Disk IO, Memory used, Number of threads, TCP Connections, Uptime and more)

Don't ask me how it's configured - I'm just a happy user :)

Is there really no-one using any monitoring tools?
How is the myxwiki.org farm monitored?

thanks in advance

I'm running XWiki Enterprise 3.3. Annotations simply do not work (via Ctrl-M).
I've tried resaving the Annotations pages (as per
http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/Annotations+Application)
using an id with programming rights. I've also installed the Admin Tool and
used it to check programming rights (Admin.CheckProgrammingRights). Viewing
page sources, it appears that annotation styles, code, etc are being included
in pages. I've also turned the feature on in preferences.

Am I missing something I need to install? Is there logging, etc, somewhere that
I can examine? Would it be helpful to (re)install the Annotations Application
(http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/Annotations+Application)?
Or, since Annotations is bundled with Enterprise, is this targeted at an older
xwiki version, so it would be harmful to do so?

Re: [xwiki-users] How to rename the main space?

2012-02-21 Thread Roman Muntyanu
One note is that if size of your attachments per page are big enough (more than
allowed per transaction in your DBMS), rename might fail due to this issue
http://jira.xwiki.org/browse/XWIKI-7040
If that will happen your information will be split between 2 spaces - the new
and the old one - and many links will become inconsistent.

So I strongly recommend to backup before renaming.

Hi Dmitry,

Currently Workspaces does not officially support adding entire groups to a
workspace. The UI does not say anything about that, but it can be done.
However, once you do that, the users of the group that just got added to the
workspace as member will not be recognized as members by the UI (even though
they have view and edit rights).

This is mainly my fault since I pretty much forgot about that usecase and I was
focusing on users.

I have created 2 jira issues to address this problem:
http://jira.xwiki.org/browse/XWIKI-7531
http://jira.xwiki.org/browse/XWIKI-7530

I will try to fix this in the future versions, as soon as I make the time.

For now, you can add individual users. If you want groups, you can add a global
group as a subgroup of the XWiki.XWikiAllGroup of your workspace by editing the
XWiki.XWikiAllGroup page in inline mode (but do remember about
http://jira.xwiki.org/browse/XWIKI-7530 - UI not recognizing members as
workspace members).

Sorry for the inconvenience,
Eduard

Re: [xwiki-users] Volunteers needed to write articles (was Re: State of the XWiki Community)

2012-01-21 Thread Roman Muntyanu
Vincent, I guess you are right. I've written so thinking more of technical
articles (which I would have been able to do only having vast XWiki development
experience).

However I could post my recent presentation on next-gen collaboration wikis and
mention xwiki as the only open-source wiki with architecture that's capable of
adopting those changes.
I could also try to post an overview on habrahabr.ru, but that sure will take a
lot longer.
I can also do translations to Ukrainian and Russian.

Currently cannot give any commitments on the timeframes, but I am interested in
taking part in the articles writing and when ready I shall send those for your
review.

Following is the list of topics I could think of but lack experience to nicely
present the information
 * XWiki architectural scalability. How good modularity results in extensibility
 * Maven best practices in XWiki
 * Wiki in the cloud
** An overview of techniques used for building XWiki farm where you
currently grant people online wikis by request
** Article describing how you would configure cluster of XWikis for
handling high-load (something like "how to build XWikipedia")
 * Distributed teamwork on XWiki project (that should end-up at some managerial
site)
 * Work with the community (Vincent's recent post about the survey taken in
2009, collective voting)

So basically the idea behind all that is take all the good things you have,
put them into article and mention XWiki :)

Indeed.

Except that it's not "you" but "we" (as in "we" the xwiki community). Everyone
here is part of the xwiki community.

Note that the XWiki SAS company (http://xwiki.com) does its own marketing (re
the cloudbees integration for example it did quite a lot but mostly in French:
http://www.google.fr/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=cloudbees+xwiki )

I completely that the XWiki open source project is not very good at doing "tech
marketing". Everyone in the community can do it and the XWiki committers too
but very few of them do any advertising of XWiki in web site articles, speak at
conferences, blog posts, etc. I do quite a few talks but mostly are in France
(where I'm based).

So let's see: who would be wiling to write some article about a part of XWiki?

That would be a very nice way for XWiki users to contribute something back to
help the open source project.

Thanks

Indeed, any recommendation?

BTW this is strange since xwiki.org website is in English and there's no reason
only people from Europe would use it. Maybe Europe countries use more open
source than say in the USA. UK is not in the list either which is strange too.

Re: [xwiki-users] Which is the best strategy when migrating from one wiki version to another wiki version?

2012-01-12 Thread Roman Muntyanu
Xar is a set of wiki pages that is stored in the database.
When you restore your old backup - you automatically end-up with previous
version of xar.
So you DO need to import the new xar file, but as Jerem validly pointed (!) see
that you don't override your custom settings (simply do not import those pages
OR try to re-apply the changes on new pages).

>> For import, you should be careful not to import the standard pages you would
>> have customized, or if you import them you will have to customize them again.
Well maybe not exactly the case here since page customization has been done.
But for cases where simple settings tuning has been applied there is one flaw
in upgrade process that drives me crazy.
If I choose not to import some pages (those I have custom settings in) that
were improved in newer release - I may not get all the benefits of new release,
or even worse - I may have half-working system in case other pages that I did
reimport from new release rely on the NEW behavior of not-upgraded page.

This is complex problem, it's not just enough to separate the settings values
from presentation to freely upload full new XAR because settings keys also
change once in a while.
It might require identifying which pages were custom modified and provide means
of merging those with new ones.

Subject: Re: [xwiki-users] Which is the best strategy when migrating from one

Approach 2 is good, when the 3.3 webapp will start, if database schema was
changed it should be updated automatically - you just have to take care of
setting correctly the properties for this (see here :
http://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/AdminGuide/Installation#HUpgradingXWikiCore)

What is left is to report also any modification you would have done the the
properties (xwiki.cfg, hibernate hbm, ...), and to reimport the standard 3.3
xar. For import, you should be careful not to import the standard pages you
would have customized, or if you import them you will have to customize them
again.

Another approach would be to migrate your existing instance of 3.2 to 3.3, and
just perform a database backup previously, but of course it means possible
interruption of service.

Re: [xwiki-users] How can I identify the reason of not being able to search through extension repository with Extension Manager?

2012-01-03 Thread Roman Muntyanu
Yes I've tested several times.
Looks like extensions.xwiki.org is down. Cannot ping it neither from work nor
from home.
Also I was able to successfully install the Polls Application before (end of
Dec 2011).

Indeed, not very helpful, just seen that I forgot to pass the real exception to
the error log... Fixing that.

Now on the why it's not working:
* do the machine on which XWiki is running has access to internet and more
specifically to extensions.xwiki.org ?
* did you tested several times ? Maybe xwiki.org was down or was restarting
when you tested

Hmm I read it too quickly actually. I tough this macro was in the xar but it's
probably because of the hack which make wiki macro initializer reload all
macros after a xar has been imported. What's weird is that it's the first time
I see this error. Do you get it only with Polls Application or with other xars
too ?

In any case it's very minor even if not nice for the log and you can't do
anything at application level IMO.

Will try to reproduce it, probably mean that the initializer does not skip the
template or something like that.

Hi XWiki devs and users,

I think we need to make a push on translations. We have about 150 translations
that are not yet available in

French
German
Latvian
Russian
Swedish

Otherwise we have the following language that would need a small push to get
complete:

Spanish (es) 459 translations
Czech (cs) 258 translations
Traditional Chinese (zh_TW) 641
Catalan 863

It would be great to get some contributors for

Italian
Portugese
Dutch

Any help is welcome to get this down. If you want to help you can go to
http://l10n.xwiki.org If we get the translations numbers under 250 we'll make
sure we get the translations in the distribution.

Ludovic

Re: [xwiki-users] Extending XWiki collaboration toolset

2011-12-02 Thread Roman Muntyanu
Hi Eduard,

   Thanks for the input!
I never knew that such tools existed :) that is a great addition to wikis -
being able to identify "what" the content is and automagically cross-link the
content.
One remark though - the information must exist before this tool can be
applied :)

E.g. for past 2 years of constant usage our wiki counts only ~650 documents
(this is for 7 projects). The information there is well-structured ... or at
least full-text-searchable.
However. We keep our technical designs, WBSs and diagrams outside wiki, as
separate documents updated by different tools like MS Office, Visio, Gliffy etc
- simply because they provide a richer set of functionality and greater
productivity because of being purpose-specific. I'm not mentioning all
information that is kept in emais, skype logs and the one that's usually lost
each time we ended a Skype or a conference call.
That means currently for my projects it's more important to be provisioned
with tools which would bloat the wiki content generation.

Regards,
  Roman

PS: Maybe if I get enough enthusiasm and time I'll even try to create a Named
Entity Recognizer to work with our business domain - to be able to provide
richer and better cross-linked wiki pages to future newbies of our projects.
When that day comes - I will know whom to contact for questions ;)

Hi Roman,

I admit I have read your presentation in fast-forward, but I noticed you
mentioned content (photo, text, audio and video) analysis. Not sure if you know
about it, but maybe you could be interested in Scribo [1][2][3].

It's an open source framework, developed as research project by XWiki SAS and
partners, that focuses on knowledge extraction from unstructured content. It
was finished at the beginning of 2011 and an XWiki integration [1, minute
10:16] also exists. The integration could use some minor updating but,
eventually, it should end up on extensions.xwiki.org.

If you are interested, we could use some help in brushing it up and finding
some relevant annotators to wrap or just plug in that would enrich the XWiki
experience.

Hope this was useful.

Thanks,
Eduard

Hello Ludovic,

It took me a month to gather all of the material in one place, so sorry for

I'm not so positive about this. The technology behind the LibreOffice Online
version is a bit tricky and it's not clear how it will work effectively.
We should wait and see.

Some thing for Wave, it's not clear how it will be developped in the future and
it seems that the Google experience had shown that the way they mixed Inbox +
Editing Documents + Chat was not the correct solution (beyond the real time
technology in it).

In any case integrating editors for advanced formats is definitively
interesting and is something we should look at. We have the Resilience
Research Project (starting in 2012) on which it is planned to work on Rich Web
Editors. More on it will come before the end of the year. It will include work
on Spreadsheet editors. If anybody knows of good Web based editors for popular
formats that we should look at, tell us.

As for real-time this is very interesting also. We have the Wiki 3.0 project
(https://wiki30.xwikisas.com/xwiki/bin/view/Main/WebHome in French) where XWiki
SAS is doing some work with the INRIA LORIA on integrating real time in the
Wysiwyg editor (with technologies similar to Wave). This is work in progress.

I'd love to hear from our devs and users what they think we should have in this
area ?

Hi Sergiu,

Those are fine improvements, I'm curious though.
* Will the extension manager pick-up/show the extensions I have already
installed?
* Will there be a UI/functionality for removing previously installed
extension? (Especially in those cases when plugin installation required copying
and container restart like
http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/Excel+Plugin )

You might be fooled by the caches. Depending on what other visitors visit and
the mysql query cache, the time to redraw the page might take more or less.
I suggest you look at the mysql queries and you run them manually with the "NO
CACHE" setting to see if the volume of data creates the slowness issue.

I think I found the issue. With the new indexes there are no indexes on the
ASE_REQUESTID column Try running this query

select /*! SQL_NO_CACHE */ activityev0_.ase_eventid as ase1_32_,
activityev0_.ase_requestid as ase2_32_, activityev0_.ase_stream as ase3_32_,
activityev0_.ase_date as ase4_32_, activityev0_.ase_priority as ase5_32_,
activityev0_.ase_type as ase6_32_, activityev0_.ase_application as ase7_32_,
activityev0_.ase_user as ase8_32_, activityev0_.ase_wiki as ase9_32_,
activityev0_.ase_space as ase10_32_, activityev0_.ase_page as ase11_32_,
activityev0_.ase_url as ase12_32_, activityev0_.ase_title as ase13_32_,
activityev0_.ase_body as ase14_32_, activityev0_.ase_version as ase15_32_,
activityev0_.ase_param1 as ase16_32_, activityev0_.ase_param2 as ase17_32_,
activityev0_.ase_param3 as ase18_32_, activityev0_.ase_param4 as ase19_32_,
activityev0_.ase_param5 as ase20_32_ from activitystream_events activityev0_
where activityev0_.ase_requestid='**55616298-1320309892000-**18xovYho'
order by activityev0_.ase_date desc

If it takes even more than 0.5 second given the repetitivity of this type of
query this can lead to 10 seconds in the end.

You can see your indexes like that:

show indexes from activitystream_events;

Then create this index:

create index ase_requestid on  activitystream_events (ase_requestid(200));

and rerun the query and the activity stream.

I believe you might be better of having CheckIndexes create additional indexes
for you even if that leads to duplicated indexes, since there might be some
more missing indexes. I've sent a mail to devs to discuss why the indexes in
Admin Tools are different than the ones now automatically created by XWiki.

Thanks. Example here http://www.ow2.org/view/Admin/CheckIndexes?viewer=code
shows places requiring change (for those who might need it someday)

After updating the check index page it now says

Cache is enabled by default. It's not ehcache but JBoss cache

This is probably because you don't have indexes. The Script has 3 occurrences
ok 'xwiki' which you should change to your db name

Subject: [xwiki-users] Activity performance is slow

Hi all,

I have XE3.2 installed on an Win2003 Server within an intranet (Tomcat+MySQL,
both latest versions), the hardware is good and enough memory for the jvm.
However, I found pages with activity (like the dashboard and user profile
pages) are very slow to load, usually 6-10 seconds, whereas the other pages can
be lowed with 2 seconds (satisfied).

Little has been found when I searched the Internet inlcluding the mailing list
archive.

Is it normal or abnormal? Are there any profiling tools to identify the
time-consuming part?

Any suggestions are welcome!

Re: [xwiki-users] Extending XWiki collaboration toolset

2011-10-17 Thread Roman Muntyanu
Hello Eugen,

Your points about Wave's codebase and APIs are valid. So is the abstraction
analogy between XWiki and Wave. There is only one argument I can bring here:
the UX of the Wave (in this particular case and because Wave is a specialized
tool) is superior.
However it's not the Wave I was trying to promote by this thread, it was
just an example of advanced user interaction User-to-User and User-to-Wiki:
advanced documents editing for most popular types of documents (text,
spreadsheet, and presentation). I understand the complexity of this task (it
took 20 years for Microsoft to build their MS Office), but the question is: I
often consider whether to upload a MS Office file as an attachment or maintain
the file's content as an XWiki page - and sooner or later someone will come up
with such solution ( Open-source wiki + Open-Source Google Docs :) ). So it's
not about writing some missing extension - it's about taking XWiki to the next
level in terms of content editing.

Subject: Re: [xwiki-users] Extending XWiki collaboration toolset

Hi! I am not a developer of XWiki, but I am using XWiki 2 years and your
questions are closed to me.

1. Wave is a new project (as a apache open-source project). It is started as a
Google Wave, after Google "forgot it" and Wave migrated to the apache
incubator. As I know for now - Wave as a independent open-source project didn't
realise yet in production - for this reason, developers of other platforms
right now cannot be sure exactly of future API, future functionality and other
things of Wave ... Discuss about integration with it can be started after Wave
will be released in a production.

2. XWiki is not only a final user-product "from the box" - is a "base" of your
possible product (application). And regarding to "collaboration" XWiki can give
to users more and more. For example, as a small comparison with Google Wave:
- In XWiki you can add "pages" - same in Wave you can add "waves"
- In XWiki you can write any comments to this page and comments to the comments
(tree organized).
- In XWiki you can sent messages inside XWiki
- In XWiki you can attach any files to this page and you can organize view
content of this files using officeviewer macro, also existing pictire viewing
and charts drawing ...
- In XWiki you can add tasks to this page (exist special macro)
- In XWiki you can connect this page to other pages (wiki, documentation,
etc)
- In XWiki you can construct personal dashboards and gadgets
- Also existing light calculations. If you need more calculations - you can
write own macro ...
What else exists in Google Wave and don't exists in XWiki? I don't know ...
(maybe another idea of interface). XWiki give you more - because you can add
additional macros, add additional functionality (for example blogs, forums,
etc). For this reason, I think, that XWiki is enought for colaboration.
Difference from Google Wave - that you need to "construct" in XWiki you own
"application". You can see examples of such applications:

Yes, and my main suspect is the fact that MySQL doesn't support linking two
types of tables with a foreign key.

You can do two things:

1. Change the configuration back to MySQLDialect, drop the
activitystream_events_params table, restart XWiki.

2. Change all the other tables to use the InnoDB engine, with a statement like
this for each table:

alter table xwikircs ENGINE=InnoDB;

For the future, 2 is better.

Subject: [xwiki-users] not quite seamless upgrade

I just upgraded our relatively small xwiki instance from 3.0.0 to 3.1.1

I did the upgrade by setting up a new host with tomcat6 etc, putting the .war
file in place, restarting tomcat to automatically expand the .war and then
merging the xwiki.cfg xwiki.properties & hibernate.cfg.xml files

All storage is in the database (Oracle) and the only skin in use is Colibri

I then uploaded the current Administration.xar apart from the 5 pages remarked
on in the instructions.

All the data is there, but I have a slight problem, there top bar of the wiki
(http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/Colibri+Skin
where the Add Wiki Space etc "buttons are) is not there, the text is, but
without anything to

Any suggestions as to what I've managed to mangle or need to reset would be
appreciated.

2011-10-05 Thread Roman Muntyanu
Hi,

I as well was interested in such script, so thanks for the hint. I've
installed GroovyConsole application, however when clicking on "Execute" button
nothing happens (well, almost nothing - in Firefox 7 I don't see any changes,
in IE9 and Chrome when clicking the button, an image placeholder appears next
to the button pointing to /xwiki/skins/colibri/icons/ajax-loader.gif, but the
image itself does not get loaded).
Maybe this issue is related to not setting proper programming rights on the
page(s) but I don't understand how to do it.

Re: [xwiki-users] Using xWiki with LDAP (Oracle OID)

2011-08-08 Thread Roman Muntyanu
I guess we're experiencing the same error:
 * Groovy error every time on LDAP admin page (LDAP Tools extension) [btw I've
tried re-saving the plugin with programming rights applied to my account but
that did not help]
 * Users that were added to active directory (LDAP) somewhere right after our
migration to v3.0 are not mapped to proper groups. Adding them manually did not
help either.

So I have
 * Upgraded to XWiki 3.1
 * Disabled LDAP Tools extension and used xwiki.cfg-based LDAP configuration.
This solved my issue.

I did get it working, the settings in the xwiki.cfg were correct. It ended up
being that the LDAP Admin package that I first attempted this config with was
overriding the xwiki.cfg values, even through the LDAP Admin package was
throwing Groovy error every time I tried to use it.

Only issue I have now is with the LDAP group and XWiki group sync. For users in
the admin group it works fine, but for users in the All group, it doesnt add
the users to that group when the log in first time.

Thanks,
Chris

Other than configuring the feed reader to use a certain username and
password, you must also alter a bit the RSS URL by appending
&basicauth=1 as a query string parameter.

For example, for the blog feed, use:
http://xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/Blog/GlobalBlogRss?xpage=plain&basicauth=1
instead of:
http://xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/Blog/GlobalBlogRss?xpage=plain

Does this solve your problem?

Try this also:

select xwd_id, xwd_language, xwd_default_language from xwikidoc where
xwd_name like 'InitialRequirements';

Is the default language en as well?

Re: [xwiki-users] [Announcement] PlantUML Macro 1.0 released

Sorry, wrong thread :)
But thanks for the macro anyways (it has a lot more diagram types as opposed to
yUML) :)))

Thanks!
Neat macro :)

I would suggest to make "http://yuml.me/diagram/scruffy/$type/$normalized";
configurable for "scuffy" / "orderly" diagrams styles.
Based on style parameter the macro code would choose between
"http://yuml.me/diagram/scruffy"; and "http://yuml.me/diagram/";

So that the user could write something like
{{yuml type="usecase" style="orderly"}}
[User]-(Login)
[User]-(Logout)
(Login)<(Reminder)
(Login)>(Captcha)
{{/yuml}}
to choose his preferred style.

Regards,
  Roman

I'm pleased to announce the release of the PlantUML xwiki macro 1.0.

Go grab it at
http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/PlantUML+Macro

The highlights of this release are:

* Straightforward installation using the PlantUML server available on
the internet.
Just import the XAR and draw your first diagram.

* The address of the PlantUML server is now easily configurable.
So you can use your own intranet PlantUML server.

* Diagrams larger than the wiki page are resized to be fully displayed
(without scrolling).

Thanks for your attention.

Subject: [xwiki-users] Dropping support for IE6?

Hi everyone,

As users, I'm wondering what you'd think if we were to drop support for IE6 in
the XWiki Enterprise 3.X cycle. Would that be a huge problem for you?

The reason I'm asking is because supporting IE6 costs us a lot in term of extra
development time and by dropping it we could be faster on other stuff.

Note that this is just me asking, there's no plan about this at this point in
time, I'm just curious to have some feedback, especially since support for IE6
has been dropped for lots of services and software out there (including
Microsoft).

Thanks
-Vincent
