Hey David,
We have had to remove a few comment from Dylan's vlog. That's been
the worst of it. We used it as an opportunity to have a conversation
with her about some of the kinds of people you will find on the
internet. On the other side of this whole thing, we've had lots of
it is true that many porn sites are going to begin advertising on vlogs. but
why is this a
bad thing? obviously the people that will link to such sponsers are not going
to have tech
vlogs or any other really serious issue because of the damage the porn links
would do to
their credibility.
Kitka,
I'm afraid I've never had the pleasure of talking to you before, but
your last sentence hit it right on the head--
When it comes down to it, parents have to be the true monitors.
That is the absolute truth. We need to stay involved. I know my kids
are young--but I am very involved in
That's very responsible of you, Susan, I wish more parents kept a
close eye on their children. There are so many people up in arms in
the media these days about pornography and other dangers to children
on the Internet, but many parents blame the government and ICANN
because they don't want to
I'm confused... what are you talking about?

Glad that you did jump in on this. I was hoping to hear your input.
Have either of your daughters ever had to deal with online wierdos
with respect to their vlogs?
My daughter wants to start one and asked me to set it up for her. I am
a little wary to get one going for her simply because of some
You're right, Deirdré, this could be a potential dark side of
videoblogging but at the moment there are not very many kids
videoblogging on a regular basis... and I like it that way. The more
kids we have videoblogging, the more kids will be targetted.
In my experience, I know that certain
This isnt about vlogging at all. It's about sick twisted individuals
that one may meet online. It's also about a kid with issues and
parents that did not monitor the activities of said kid while online.
RSS? Mefeedia? Vlogmap? Give me a break. Completely irrelevant. I hope
that was a joke.

If anything, having an RSS feed and being on maps and directories
would get a child vlogger an audience. After an audience is
established, who is to stop the child from having a secret side
project? All the media attention about the fear of porn on the iPod
is certainly getting to the ears of

I've been keeping a close eye on the porn industry and
video-podcasting over the past few months and I have found that there
is very little in the way of sex-based videoblogs. I even asked my
viewers to e-mail me if they find other sex videoblogs because I would
like to review them. I received a

Warning RANT! You better fucking believe it. This issue is central to
what I believe in... please enjoy.
I'm going to nip this one in the bud.. this is NOT a side effect of
video blogging... video blogging is a lightnet medium, an open
system... such devious behavior can ONLY lurk in
Interesting point... the visibility might bring an audience... but I
ask you this... is it possible for this open audience and visibility
to be weeded out and turned into a deviant mechanism? Or would it be
to easily discovered?
I'd love to chat more on this subject. It's extremely
Robert,
What I'm trying to say is that companies are going to catch on to this
new form of entertainment as a marketing strategy. When I go to vlog
directories, I'm not looking to find a videoblog of advertisements. I
have no problem with some videoblogs containing an advertisement or
two (eg.
hi kitka, welcome to the group
a few points that might relate:
1. every night for the past *several years*, many people build temporary
sex blogs and vlogs (group blogs actually). Hundreds of people share
personal videos (thousands share photos). These are paid services and
rarely have RSS
Mike,
Sam Sugar and SugarBank.com once mentioned the idea of a .kids
domain... the reason he did this was because it was ridiculous to
create a .xxx domain since children will still be able to access .com
sex sites. A .kids domain would be the only domain children would
have access to and
I don't think that TV style ad vlogs will be very successful. I'd
like to see someone try it. I have yet to see one. The model for
this is text blogs which have been around a lot longer and I haven't
seen any that are all ads all the time. Now someone could
theoretically disguise an ad blog as
And others are, Kitka. Perhaps some directories will provide a means for you to select via tags or some another scheme.
However when you say directories should exclude videos such as this:

Devlon,
This came up last week I think. It's a tough thing, we don't want to be
censors, yet we want a nice friendly place where everyone can be
comfortable
finding video.
I have no doubt that more people will start to take advantage of the
medium. Just as smaller blogs may become shrouded
Kitka, I happen to enjoy discovering promotional video, and you said
(see your quote below) you don't. Big deal, it's not worth getting
yourself kerfuffled over, I was pointing out that there's room for
everything, and we should not exclude work from directories. The videos

Robert,
I used to be a big fan of adcritic.com before they started charging
people to watch their ads. I think it would be smart if perhaps an
advertising company put out their own video-podcast showing off their
creations or if someone had a video-podcast presenting a variety of
funny ads from
