hi all rhizome 6 template is ready (I think). There are no controllers visible, so if you use this you probably need to provide instructions in the accompanying blog post (for those new here, I work on the assumption that blog video should be interactive as a general condition and interactivity should be more than a button (or a controller)). have fun and please email if you use it. -- cheers Adrian Miles hypertext.RMIT URL:http://hypertext.rmit.edu.au/vlog Yahoo! [videoblogging] Re: Open Vlog on FOSS
Andrew, I agree that it would be cool having people make vlogs about focused topics. I also think the random personal ones are good. I'm not sick of those. That said, developing some focused vlogs would be great. These vlogs would serve dispersed populations with common interests, and that can be really useful for that group. And being useful is a good thing. I'm someone who has eclectic interests and would enjoy dipping into what different niche progams are doing. And I'd also enjoy following few niches I really was obsessed with. I'm just thinking of some possible niches here: How-to art projects Gardening Woodworking Garbage (what happens to garbage in a community? What people work in the garbage processing industry? What garbage related problems are out there? What's the difference between one neigborhood's garbage and another?) All about a specific neighborhood skydiving Transportation activism (e.g. people who are trying to make NYC more bike, pedestrian, and mass transit oriented) So there are a lot, lot, lot of niches out there. and following a niche can be a great way do develop deep learning in a subject, which is great. Maybe Andrew's niche can be the need for niche vlogging. Wait, he's already got a niche! Well more like a canyon. --- In videoblogging@yahoogroups.com, andrew michael baron andrew @r... wrote: Great, this is what I've been trying to say every time I go out of the house: . . .all you need is a topic in which a relatively large audience is extremely interested, but that audience is too widely dispersed to be served by traditional broadcast or cable television Of course that's not ALL you need or anything at all that you need, but its something I sure would like to see more of. I just thought I would say that I really enjoyed it too. That was my fist video chat with anyone ever. It was nice actually interacting with some of you who I've only seen in pre-recorded videos. I'll be back. I don't know a lot of people where I live locally that are into video blogging or podcasting. I'm pretty far out a head of most people I know personally on this stuff. And I just hate just having to explain the whole thing in detail before I can even talk to someone about it. Most of the time I don't even try. Anyway it was nice to interact with some peers in video blogging. I'll be back. And thanks for checking my stuff Markus, it's nice to know that at least someone is watching. A few issues. 1) You cannot subscribe to an individual blog one you find it on Google's Blog search. [videoblogging] Re: Vlogging up.... with Flash 8 new codec On2 VP6 !
I just downloaded Flash 8 Pro yesterday, but I need to read up on the video settings. I used the standalone Flash 8 Video Encoder to process my latest video post but the quality was not very good. Not sure where I'm going wrong, but I'm assuming it is a problem with my settings... First I took an iMovie project and exported it with very high-quality (6400 frame rate) and kept it to the original size. The result is a big 110MB Quicktime MOV file that looks quite nice. This file was then processed using Flash's new video encoder. I tried both the Sorenson Spark codec (Flash 7 player) and the On2 VP6 (Flash 8 player) but both looked bad. Here are the available settings and what I've selected... Ecoding Profile: Flash 7 - High Quality (700kbps) Ecoding Profile: Flash 8 - High Quality (700kbps) Max data rate: 700 kilobits per second (that is default, but I tried as high as 1000) Resize video: 450x300 Frame rate: Same as Source Key frame placement: Automatic -Matt -- http://www.leanbackvids.com/videoblog/ http://www.vlogmap.org/blog/ --- In videoblogging@yahoogroups.com, Joshua Kinberg [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: example please? -Josh Yahoo! Totally. A search for futuremedia yields half dozen hits from my site on page one. Not Future Media. I am no longer two words. Since I put up this site, I realized FutureMedia is one word. This Google blog search confirms that to me. [videoblogging] Re: Open Vlog on FOSS
This is precisely what I've tried to do with my vlog. I focus on rock and roll, but not just rock and roll but the narrow sub genre of Garage Rock. It's not so much of a community effort but I do post videos that bands and other people send me. The problem that I'm finding is that many people that should be in a natural audience for me aren't all that technologically advanced. I'd say that about half of them don't have broadband yet, and or don't have computers that are modern enough to view my videos. This is a community that is almost proud of being tech illiterate. It's like they'd be selling out to the man if they decided to upgrade their computer or something. I've been trying to convince them that they would be doing the opposite. It's DIY media, and the DYI ethic is strong in the underground rock and roll community so you would think it should be a natural--but it's not, for a lot of them anyway. --- In videoblogging@yahoogroups.com, andrew michael baron [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Great, this is what I've been trying to say every time I go out of the house: . . .all you need is a topic in which a relatively large audience is extremely interested, but that audience is too widely dispersed to be served by traditional broadcast or cable television Yahoo! Hi there, folks! If you could, reply to me here and give the URL to your vlog's news feed of choice, and also what kind of video format you use with your vlog. I'm going to do some testing with fireANT and see what types of video files synchronize well to fireANT and which ones don't. Personally, I use mp4 videos, and they port over well. :) Thanks! Oups some more info : http://www.dotclear.net/forum/viewtopic.php?id=7513 When you set up DotClear to be in english, just its administration part reflects your choice. The frontend is driven by a theme mechanism which doesnt provide any localization system at all : strings are hardcoded in files such as template.php, list.php, and so on. You can then edit these files directly.bertrand 2005/9/14, bertrand [EMAIL PROTECTED]: hello, within the admin (dotclear/ecrire) select Préférences / Preference / 5th Tab from the left. change Langue/ language to English If it doesn't work, select Outils/ Tools /6th tab from the left then A propos de DotClear/ about Dotclear and check files and directories permissions. Yeah the upload function in WordPress is kinda funky. I have never been able to use it to upload a large video file. I did cange the file types and sizes it accepts but it doesn't seem to work. I can't figure it out. There was something on the WP support blog about that function being problematic with certain hosts, so maybe it's my host. I haven't looked too deeply into the problem. PHP has a default file size limit for HTTP uploads defined in the php.ini file on your server. Apache as a different upload limit by default. [videoblogging] Re: Open Vlog on FOSS
Theres also a script timeout setting or two that can hamper uploads. Designed to prevent a stalled script from hanging around and eating resources forever, this stuff can also cause the upload to timeout. The problem is its not sensible to set it too high, and uploading is painfully slow for many people. So generally browser-based uploading isnt that great for uploading large files. But dont let this put you off, your settings may be too low at the moment. Ourmedia may be a good example of what to expect. With files above a certain size (is it 10MB or 20MB?), they recommend you use the publishing software tool instead, as it can connect in a way that is less likely to go wrong. Another reason for file uploads not working would be if you dont have the permissions/ownership of the upload folder set right. [videoblogging] Re: Vlogging up.... with Flash 8 new codec On2 VP6 !
There dont seem to be that many settings for flash video encoder, compared to other video codecs. Ive just had my first go with it. Heres 2 sample files, there may be room for improvement in quality but the only options to play with are bitrate, framerate, resolution and keyframes. These are the same footage as my previous HDV tests with H264. They are scaled down footage from a Sony HDR-HC1. Its not the worlds greatest test clips because there isnt enough variation in footage and the camera pans wont look smooth unless I use 50fps. 960x540 25fps 2000kbits/sec: http://www.unquack.com/sunflower.html 320x240 25fps 600kbits/sec: http://www.unquack.com/sunflower320.html The following are errors on my part sue to rushing and should not be interpreted as problems inherent to flash: I think I probably included audio when there isnt any audio, so filesizes slightly larger than they should be. The aspect ration for the 320x240 one is all messed up because its widescreen footage but not widescreen res. I didnt mess around with the player options much so the semi-transparent playback bar is annoyingly over the top of the video. Quality seems ok to me, seems worse on sertain frames, macroblocks become visible sometimes, dunno really thats where my knowledge ends. Judge for yourselves. I used the latest flash video format so I presume you need flash player 8 to see the above. Done on the Mac but I assume windows results should be much the same. As to why you have not got good results, need to see a sample from you to see in what way it is bad. Possible reasons would be if for some reason it didnt like that particular resolution you used, or if your intermediate codec choice wasnt as good as it sounded. The intermediate file was 110MB, but how long is the footage in question? What quicktime codec did you render the intermediate version with? Depending on your circumstances try to avoid using an intermediate file at all. If youve made edits in imovie, maybe render it back out to a dv file. Flash encoder export stuff is available from within quicktime. Its also possible to look inside imovie files (right click and 'show package contents') and see the source .dv files, which can then be loaded into quicktime, if that is applicable to you. Or maybe it might even be the case that flash export is available from within imovie, havent tried. Re: [videoblogging] Re: Open Vlog on FOSS
I had a problem like this once, kinda, with my own music. The main problem for me, however, was that I couldnt get anyone to listen to it. No one would play it on the radio, no one bought CDs, my friends didnt listen to it, my parents were not particularly impressed, so I decided to embed it in an installation and put it up all around town and that ended up working. One idea could be to create a black booth or thrasher installation or something and take the videos to them at the venues, er, bars, I mean, backyard parties. Maybe build a little wi-fi station to help get them in the mood of thinking about satellites and distant communication methods or just put your videoblog up locally - showing off cool videos of garage bands on a screen. Even with headphones it might only be effective before the bands start playing. . . On Sep 14, 2005, at 1:22 PM, straydogma wrote: This is precisely what I've tried to do with my vlog. I'm going to do some testing with fireANT and see what types of video files synchronize well to fireANT and which ones don't. Personally, I use mp4 videos, and they port over well. :) Thanks! I once loaned my bike to a hobo waiting for the train so he could get to the store really quick before his train came. Needless to say he never came back with my bike. MSN Spaces gives you no advantage in search over other blogs on MSN Search, either, because the search engines work attempting to determine relevance. Where the site is hosted has no effect on relevance, but other links and content of the entries certainly does.
