In my experience, you always need a sim card to get past the set

Thanks

Hi Alex,
You're correct. It's a PITA. However, some people have purchased a sim card
from TMobile for about $10. It's a pay as you go card just to activate the
phone.

Hi.
I have just updated an IPhone 5 without a sim card. That seems to be stupid,
because now I can not set it up just to use wifi. Can I do anything. Or do I
need to buy a simcard for it?
Best regards Annie.

You do not have to activate the phone if you do not wish to use cellular

attempts to be activated with Apple. To clarify one screen will say,

Hi,
I'm pretty sure there's a setting in Settings/Phone that basically stops the
phone from searching for a cellular connection, but I'm not sure which one.

How do you use an iPhone on WiFi without a sim card? I have an iPhone 4,
that I want to use on WiFi, but it keeps asking for sim card to be entered.

Hi,
The phone should have come with a sim card. If you use a different phone to
make calls, don't remove the sim card from the other phone. It will show no
cellular service, but you'll be able to use it on Wi-Fi.
Best,
Anna
