ARE YOUR KEYBOARD ISSUES COMPLETELY SOLVED!

2015-04-29 Thread carol.pearso...@googlemail.com
HI all,

Has anyone had any further bluetooth keyboard problems since upgrading to iOS
8.3? The ones I'm talking about are where you get double letters etc.

I don't use my keyboard very often, but when I do it's because I really need to!

I have so far had two occasions when this has happened to me again and the only
way out appears to be to reboot the phone, turn off the keyboard and start all
over again. As you don't know when this is going to happen, it's still an
inconvenience to me and I'm about to write Apple's Accessibility team once
again. I just thought I'd ask first.

I really thought this was sorted and so was very disappointed when first I saw
it recur once again.

Re: Thermostats

2015-04-29 Thread Cheryl Lenartiene
I loved my talking thermostat and may still go that route, but they are very
expensive, so I wanted other options to consider.
I had seen discussions about accessible thermostats on this list, and I thought
I remembered that accessibility may have been broken with app updates in some
instances. Rather than wade through the archives to figure that out, I thought
I would ask if any thermostats were currently accessible.
I will be checking into the Radio Thermostats. Our house is already wired for
24V, so my husband should be able to do the install.
I'm glad to hear that the VIP 3000 is Wi-Fi enabled now. It's a nice touch, and
I will certainly be considering that one as well. It has the advantage of being
accessible whether the router is working or not, but it is somewhat expensive.
I do have a lot of blindness specific products around my home, and I'm glad we
live in age where there are choices!

Hi Alan, the only content you have access to as an iTunes Match subscriber is
content you already own, either through purchasing it from iTunes itself, or
by going through the quite lengthy process of uploading your own music to it.
It's called iTunes match because a series of algorithms try to match what you
upload with content iTunes has in the store. When it finds a match, it
replaces the copy you uploaded with its copy.
Tagging is key here. For example, a few years ago, I digitised my vinyl
collection. I tagged it correctly, that is to say I created tags for every
file with the artist, the title of the song, and the album it came from. When
I uploaded 25,000 songs to iTunes Match, which sadly is the maximum content
you're allowed to upload that wasn't purchased from Apple, i was thrilled to
note that a lot of the vinyl I uploaded was replaced by high bit-rate,
crackle free copies from Apple's library. Absolutely fantastic. So I deleted
my vinyl rips and downloaded the Apple versions. I get to keep them, even if
at some time in the future I choose not to renew my iTunes Match subscription.
 It's quite the bargain.

 Hi alan,

iTunes Match is not like a typical streaming service. It basically lets you
treat the music you get from places other than iTunes as though it was
iTunes music. It goes through your music collection, and when it encounters
songs available in the iTunes store, it makes copies of those songs
available to you. When it encounters songs not available in the iTunes
store, it copies those songs to iCloud. If the copies of the songs in the
iTunes store that you have are of lower quality than those in the store,
you can delete your versions and replace them with the ones from the iTunes
store. You can stream or download any of the music to your iPhone. And if
you stop using the service, you still have all the music, including any
tracks that you downloaded from the iTunes store.

these streaming services let you download anything to your device as you

pronounced differently from PC screen readers to voice Over and is downright
funny depending on what screen reader or book combination you happen to be

people so certain screen readers I knew they were using would pronounce it
the way I thought it should be pronounced and then one day I thought this is
silly. I'm just sitting here hitting alt I for ten minutes bypassing the
spell checker on every message I write so I stopped and let the words fall
the way they were meant to go. Laughs!

Facebook question again, please help.

2015-04-29 Thread Mária Orovčíková

Helo list,
please, does anyone know how to tag or mention one or more Facebook
groups or facebook fan pages in status update using IOS Facebook app
with Voiceover?
For example I want to post a status and I want to mention AppleVis
fanpage in my post. I want my friends to see mentioned/tagged page as a
ling so they can click on them and view their profiles. It does work for
me when I tag friends, but with pages it does not work.
When I tag a friend I type @ sign, then right after @ I start typing
friend's name then I touch the screen above the keyboard where I can see
the name, so I double-tap on it and it is in the post. When I click
post button, the friend's name appears as a link.
I have read the same thing is possible with fan pages and I have seen
some people doing it, but it does not work for me. When I type fan page
name, it does not appear in dropdown menu so I cannot click on it and it
happens with every single fan page.
I also tried to type @ sign and then the fan page name, but it was not
displayed as a link.
I tried it with native IOS Facebook and with regular Facebook website in
Safari, but it did not work.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thank you for your help in advance.
With kind regards
Maria

Hello. Get the app Enotify and you can set various different alerts for
certain types of emails, battery alerts, and data usage just to name a few.
The app is completely voice over friendly and the developer is good at
responding to suggestions and bug reports. If necessary I can provide the
app store link, however if you simply search for the app name as I wrote it
you should be able to find it just fine. I believe the developers name is
Josh but I can't remember the last name.

Hello, would be highly appreciate, if anyone can share any free simple

bundled with other battery saving or other monitoring features.

This morning when it happened the watch was at 93% battery. Yeah I
usually have to restart it at least once per day. I wonder if I should
just restart it every morning to see if tat makes a difference. I
charge it all night so by this time of morning it's not very run down
yet. Yesterday the problem occurred in late afternoon whenthe battery
was around 60%. I'm thinking it's an actual problem but not one tey'll
find if I go into the Apple Store.

Hi Deb,

I haven't seen this behavior. What's the battery percentage like when you
get the watch working again? Have you tried restarting the watch? I've had

involuntarily appears to go into battery reserve mode. I'm just
sitting there, I feel a small vibration on my wrist with no
accompanying sound, and then all is dead as if I've turned it off. A
long press of the Friends button will bring up the power down screen
which restores the watch to normal operation when I cancel the power
down, but otherwise there's no sound from the watch or voiceover. I
remember that David Woodbridge commented in one of his podcasts that
if you do go into battery reserve, you lose VO so I'm assuming this is
what is happening to me. I haven't seen anyone else post about this. I
don't see anything in settings that would prompt this behavior. I have
rebooted the watch but it still persists once or twice a day. Any
thoughts are welcome.

Is there a way that he can delete them all?

Re: Removing language from roter

2015-04-29 Thread Richard Turner
Simply go to settings, general, accessibility, voiceover, rotor, languages, and
deselect all other languages.
If you only have one default voice, language will not show up in the rotor.
You cannot turn off the rotor.

Hi, list.

My friend is trying to delete those 500 contacts but he doesn't know how he

Is there a way that he can delete them all?

Thanks!

Re: Apple Watch Goes into Power Reserve on its own

2015-04-29 Thread Deb Lewis
I like the Watch very much. It's a different way to manage a lot of
interaction with your phone and takes some getting used to, but
overall I'm pleased with it and definitely pleased with the level of
accessibility for the first run. There are definitely a few buggy
things, but as I said, I'm pleased overall for the first version.

I've
 had
to do that a few times because of odd behavior, like the Clear All
Notifications button getting stuck on screen.

 Best,
 Anna

Don't know if anyone who as received their apple watch can replicate
this or not. At least one, maybe twice, each day my Apple Watch
involuntarily appears to go into battery reserve mode. I'm just
sitting there, I feel a small vibration on my wrist with no
accompanying sound, and then all is dead as if I've turned it off. A
long press of the Friends button will bring up the power down screen
which restores the watch to normal operation when I cancel the power
down, but otherwise there's no sound from the watch or voiceover. I
remember that David Woodbridge commented in one of his podcasts that
if you do go into battery reserve, you lose VO so I'm assuming this is
what is happening to me. I haven't seen anyone else post about this. I
don't see anything in settings that would prompt this behavior. I have
rebooted the watch but it still persists once or twice a day. Any
 thoughts are welcome.

Three questions about the Seeing Eye GPS app.

2015-04-29 Thread Kevin Minor
Hi.

I just purchased a three year subscription to the Seeing Eye GPS app. I
have three questions about it.

First, I thought I read somewhere that there was a lifetime subscription
available for the app. If so, how do I get it? I just saw the maximum of
three years, so that's what I got.

Second, I notice that the app can be run in the background. However, when I
do this the app uses a voice that's at a much higher speed than my default
voice with VoiceOver. If I have the app open on the screen, my default
voice is used, and it's at a speed I like. If I lock the phone I get the
much faster voice. How do I slow this voice down?

Third, is there somewhere where I can get instructions on using this app?

I've used this app in the past, and I liked it at that time. Due to money,
or more accurately, the lack of it, I couldn't afford to buy a subscription
until now. As I said, overall I like the app, and I plan on using it to
find out what's around me, and maybe I'll get some good ideas about visiting
some interesting spots.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Kevin Minor, Lexington, KY

Re: Duel ringers??

Hi,
Try going into Settings/FaceTime, and turning off the setting that says
something similar to “Use FaceTime for iPhone Cellular calls.” I think that’s
what it’s called. Or, is it “Allow Cellular calls?” I don’t remember which one
it is, but, doing that should fix that.
Hope that helps,

 Hi.

I just purchased a three year subscription to the Seeing Eye GPS app. I have
 three questions about it.

First, I thought I read somewhere that there was a lifetime subscription
available for the app. If so, how do I get it? I just saw the maximum of
three years, so that’s what I got.

Second, I notice that the app can be run in the background. However, when I
do this the app uses a voice that’s at a much higher speed than my default
voice with VoiceOver. If I have the app open on the screen, my default voice
is used, and it’s at a speed I like. If I lock the phone I get the much
faster voice. How do I slow this voice down?

Third, is there somewhere where I can get instructions on using this app?

I’ve used this app in the past, and I liked it at that time. Due to money,
or more accurately, the lack of it, I couldn’t afford to buy a subscription
until now. As I said, overall I like the app, and I plan on using it to find
out what’s around me, and maybe I’ll get some good ideas about visiting some
 interesting spots.

Thanks in advance for any help.

again still did not work. However, sometime it was OK. I do not have any
sequence or way to ensure it works when I need it. It is very inconvenience.

Re: Three questions about the Seeing Eye GPS app.

2015-04-29 Thread Andy Baracco
There is a $299 lifetime subscription. If I were you, being that you already
paid for 3 years, I would use up your current subscription and at the end of
the time, see what you want to do. Offerings in this space are constantly
changing and improving. I have occasionally read posts to the effect that
Sendero has funding issues, so wait and see if the product is still being
offered 3 years from Now. I bought the 3 year sub in 2013 because it was the
best solution available but even now, I’m not sure that this is still the case,
and if I had to decide whether or not to resub today I probably would not.

Subject: Three questions about the Seeing Eye GPS app.

However, when I do
this the app uses a voice that’s at a much higher speed than my default voice
with VoiceOver. If I have the app open on the screen, my default voice is
used, and it’s at a speed I like. If I lock the phone I get the much faster
voice. How do I slow this voice down?

Third, is there somewhere where I can get instructions on using this app?

I’ve used this app in the past, and I liked it at that time. Due to money, or
more accurately, the lack of it, I couldn’t afford to buy a subscription until
now. As I said, overall I like the app, and I plan on using it to find out
what’s around me, and maybe I’ll get some good ideas about visiting some
interesting spots.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Apple TV audio

2015-04-29 Thread Richard Turner
I have an Onkio receiver that is a few years old and appears to only have RCA

I would like to be able to put the Apple TV sound through my stereo.
Since the Apple TV only has an optical audio jack, does anyone here know if
there is an adapter that would allow this kind of connection?
Thanks,

Re: Apple TV audio

2015-04-29 Thread Matthew Bullis
If you have the latest Apple TV, it will have an HDMI port, the rectangle one
that feels like a USB. You can do what I did and buy a little box that connects
to the port and then use a patch cord to run the audio to your RCA jacks on the
stereo. The RCA jacks are the pair of inputs. This little box plugs into the
wall for its power, and I got this one on Amazon for about $30:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KBHX072/
When you get it, set the switch to the middle position for audio output to the
RCA on the little box. This box is an HDMI switch. It's used for those times
when you have an input on a tv, but no way to get the audio to your stereo.
Enjoy.

Hello. Get the app Enotify and you can set various different alerts for
certain types of emails, battery alerts, and data usage just to name a few.
The app is completely voice over friendly and the developer is good at
responding to suggestions and bug reports. If necessary I can provide the app
store link, however if you simply search for the app name as I wrote it you
should be able to find it just fine. I believe the developers name is Josh

Subject: Audio Memos app now supports using the internal iDevice microphone in
full frequency mode

Hi, Like Boss Jock, this app now supports the removal of audio filters that are
used by Apple to make the internal microphone use less bass response than

the microphone can allow. Turn off these filters, and you have a very nice
sounding, full frequency microphone. While Boss Jock can do the same thing, the
Audio Memos app is less complicated because it is only for simple recording and
not like Boss Jock which allows one to add and mix other sounds in with the
recording.

One nice thing about this app is that you can turn the filters back on and now
you have the microphone just as it sounds with the apple processing. Sometimes
I want to choose, and with this app, I can.

There is a free version, and a paid version. The nice thing is that the paid
version is as low as $0.99 and you can then decide on the in app purchases you
want like voice activation and many others. The cost of the total app if you
just want to purchase it out right is $9.99

The interface is very straight forward with a way to manually adjust the volume
control and the limiter at the same time without having to deal with a lot of
technical parameters.

There are many ways to export recordings. You can use iCloud, email, Air Drop,
DropBox, iTunes, and you can even send them directly to your computer by using
a variant of your computer IP address to connect to the app. You can also
export files to other applications such as BossJock. In addition, You can
import songs from your music into the recorder.

Two links below. First is to the iTunes app store where you can read more about

This morning when it happened the watch was at 93% battery. Yeah I
usually have to restart it at least once per day. I wonder if I should
just restart it every morning to see if tat makes a difference. I

RE: iPhone Voice Recorder

2015-04-29 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If you mean you accidently deleted the Voice Memo app that comes with all
iPhones then that cannot be so since it can’t be deleted. Chances are you may
have accidently moved it to another page or into a folder, but you definitely
can’t delete it.

Apple Watch Goes into Power Reserve on its own

2015-04-29 Thread Deb Lewis

Re: ARE YOUR KEYBOARD ISSUES COMPLETELY SOLVED!

2015-04-29 Thread carol.pearso...@googlemail.com
Thanks, Chris. Got that and I'll certainly be trying it out for myself as
soon as it happens again.

Carol, you don't need to reboot the phone, pair the keyboard again
etc. When I sometimes get the double letters, I quickly turn
Voiceover off and back on with Home button triple press.

At 07:00 AM 4/29/2015, you wrote:

HI all,

Has anyone had any further bluetooth keyboard problems since upgrading to
iOS 8.3? The ones I'm talking about are where you get double letters etc.

I don't use my keyboard very often, but when I do it's because I really
need to!

I have so far had two occasions when this has happened to me again and the
only way out appears to be to reboot the phone, turn off the keyboard and
start all over again. As you don't know when this is going to happen, it's
still an inconvenience to me and I'm about to write Apple's Accessibility
team once again. I just thought I'd ask first.

I really thought this was sorted and so was very disappointed when first I
saw it recur once again.
