ARE YOUR KEYBOARD ISSUES COMPLETELY SOLVED!
HI all, Has anyone had any further bluetooth keyboard problems since upgrading to iOS 8.3? The ones I'm talking about are where you get double letters etc. I don't use my keyboard very often, but when I do it's because I really need to! I have so far had two occasions when this has happened to me again and the only way out appears to be to reboot the phone, turn off the keyboard and start all over again. As you don't know when this is going to happen, it's still an inconvenience to me and I'm about to write Apple's Accessibility team once again. I just thought I'd ask first. I really thought this was sorted and so was very disappointed when first I saw it recur once again. Carol P -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. Re: Thermostats
I loved my talking thermostat and may still go that route, but they are very expensive, so I wanted other options to consider. I had seen discussions about accessible thermostats on this list, and I thought I remembered that accessibility may have been broken with app updates in some instances. Rather than wade through the archives to figure that out, I thought I would ask if any thermostats were currently accessible. I will be checking into the Radio Thermostats. Our house is already wired for 24V, so my husband should be able to do the install. I'm glad to hear that the VIP 3000 is Wi-Fi enabled now. It's a nice touch, and I will certainly be considering that one as well. It has the advantage of being accessible whether the router is working or not, but it is somewhat expensive. Hi Alan, the only content you have access to as an iTunes Match subscriber is content you already own, either through purchasing it from iTunes itself, or by going through the quite lengthy process of uploading your own music to it. It's called iTunes match because a series of algorithms try to match what you upload with content iTunes has in the store. When it finds a match, it replaces the copy you uploaded with its copy. Tagging is key here. For example, a few years ago, I digitised my vinyl collection. I tagged it correctly, that is to say I created tags for every file with the artist, the title of the song, and the album it came from. When I uploaded 25,000 songs to iTunes Match, which sadly is the maximum content you're allowed to upload that wasn't purchased from Apple, i was thrilled to note that a lot of the vinyl I uploaded was replaced by high bit-rate, crackle free copies from Apple's library. Absolutely fantastic. So I deleted my vinyl rips and downloaded the Apple versions. I get to keep them, even if at some time in the future I choose not to renew my iTunes Match subscription. It's quite the bargain. When it encounters songs not available in the iTunes store, it copies those songs to iCloud. If the copies of the songs in the iTunes store that you have are of lower quality than those in the store, you can delete your versions and replace them with the ones from the iTunes store. These things are bound to happen from time to time. Living in Florida Tornado particularly is a frustrating curiosity, laughs! But Amish is pronounced differently from PC screen readers to voice Over and is downright funny depending on what screen reader or book combination you happen to be in. I used to intentionally misspell words when writing to other blind people so certain screen readers I knew they were using would pronounce it the way I thought it should be pronounced and then one day I thought this is silly. I'm just sitting here hitting alt I for ten minutes bypassing the spell checker on every message I write so I stopped and let the words fall the way they were meant to go. Facebook question again, please help.
Helo list, please, does anyone know how to tag or mention one or more Facebook groups or facebook fan pages in status update using IOS Facebook app with Voiceover? For example I want to post a status and I want to mention AppleVis fanpage in my post. I want my friends to see mentioned/tagged page as a ling so they can click on them and view their profiles. It does work for me when I tag friends, but with pages it does not work. When I tag a friend I type @ sign, then right after @ I start typing friend's name then I touch the screen above the keyboard where I can see the name, so I double-tap on it and it is in the post. When I click post button, the friend's name appears as a link. I have read the same thing is possible with fan pages and I have seen some people doing it, but it does not work for me. When I type fan page name, it does not appear in dropdown menu so I cannot click on it and it happens with every single fan page. I also tried to type @ sign and then the fan page name, but it was not displayed as a link. I tried it with native IOS Facebook and with regular Facebook website in Safari, but it did not work. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you for your help in advance. With kind regards Maria -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. How do you like the watch? I was hoping for lots of stories, experiences, descriptions... Yeah I usually have to restart it at least once per day. I wonder if I should just restart it every morning to see if tat makes a difference. I charge it all night so by this time of morning it's not very run down yet. Yesterday the problem occurred in late afternoon whenthe battery was around 60%. I'm thinking it's an actual problem but not one tey'll find if I go into the Apple Store. On 4/29/15, Woody Anna Dresner wadres...@att.net wrote: Hi Deb, I haven't seen this behavior. What's the battery percentage like when you get the watch working again? Have you tried restarting the watch? A long press of the Friends button will bring up the power down screen which restores the watch to normal operation when I cancel the power down, but otherwise there's no sound from the watch or voiceover. I remember that David Woodbridge commented in one of his podcasts that if you do go into battery reserve, you lose VO so I'm assuming this is what is happening to me. I haven't seen anyone else post about this. I don't see anything in settings that would prompt this behavior. I have rebooted the watch but it still persists once or twice a day. Translation apps
Hi, I think I know the answer to this, but another blind person was asking if there was such a thing as an app which would allow someone to speak into her iPhone in German and then translated into English for her. Presumably, this is a bit of a tall order, but I would be glad to hear that I am mistaken. Is there anything not quite so Advanced that anyone could recommend? Re: Apple Watch Goes into Power Reserve on its own
I like the Watch very much. It's a different way to manage a lot of interaction with your phone and takes some getting used to, but overall I'm pleased with it and definitely pleased with the level of accessibility for the first run. There are definitely a few buggy things, but as I said, I'm pleased overall for the first version. On 4/29/15, Trea Abma trea.a...@gmail.com wrote: How do you like the watch? A long press of the Friends button will bring up the power down screen which restores the watch to normal operation when I cancel the power down, but otherwise there's no sound from the watch or voiceover. I remember that David Woodbridge commented in one of his podcasts that if you do go into battery reserve, you lose VO so I'm assuming this is what is happening to me. I haven't seen anyone else post about this. I don't see anything in settings that would prompt this behavior. I have rebooted the watch but it still persists once or twice a day. Three questions about the Seeing Eye GPS app.
Hi. I just purchased a three year subscription to the Seeing Eye GPS app. I have three questions about it. First, I thought I read somewhere that there was a lifetime subscription available for the app. If so, how do I get it? I just saw the maximum of three years, so that's what I got. Second, I notice that the app can be run in the background. However, when I do this the app uses a voice that's at a much higher speed than my default voice with VoiceOver. If I have the app open on the screen, my default voice is used, and it's at a speed I like. If I lock the phone I get the much faster voice. How do I slow this voice down? Third, is there somewhere where I can get instructions on using this app? I've used this app in the past, and I liked it at that time. Due to money, or more accurately, the lack of it, I couldn't afford to buy a subscription until now. As I said, overall I like the app, and I plan on using it to find out what's around me, and maybe I'll get some good ideas about visiting some interesting spots. Thanks in advance for any help. Re: Three questions about the Seeing Eye GPS app.
You could have purchased a nonsubscription version for $299.99 if you had looked for seeing eye gps xt. I thought there was speech settings in the app, but am not sure right now. The manual is available in several formats at: http://www.senderogroup.com/support/supportseeingeye.htm Richard On Apr 29, 2015, at 3:05 PM, Kevin Minor kmino...@outlook.com wrote: Hi. I just purchased a three year subscription to the Seeing Eye GPS app. I have three questions about it. First, I thought I read somewhere that there was a lifetime subscription available for the app. If so, how do I get it? I just saw the maximum of three years, so that’s what I got. Second, I notice that the app can be run in the background. However, when I do this the app uses a voice that’s at a much higher speed than my default voice with VoiceOver. If I have the app open on the screen, my default voice is used, and it’s at a speed I like. If I lock the phone I get the much faster voice. How do I slow this voice down? Third, is there somewhere where I can get instructions on using this app? I’ve used this app in the past, and I liked it at that time. Due to money, or more accurately, the lack of it, I couldn’t afford to buy a subscription until now. As I said, overall I like the app, and I plan on using it to find out what’s around me, and maybe I’ll get some good ideas about visiting some interesting spots. Thanks in advance for any help. Carol, I also have the double letters problem. I am using iPhone 5 with Microsoft BT keyboard running latest 8.3. Re: Three questions about the Seeing Eye GPS app.
There is a $299 lifetime subscription. If I were you, being that you already paid for 3 years, I would use up your current subscription and at the end of the time, see what you want to do. Offerings in this space are constantly changing and improving. I have occasionally read posts to the effect that Sendero has funding issues, so wait and see if the product is still being offered 3 years from Now. I bought the 3 year sub in 2013 because it was the best solution available but even now, I’m not sure that this is still the case, and if I had to decide whether or not to resub today I probably would not. Andy From: Kevin Minor Sent: Wednesday, April 29, 2015 3:05 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Three questions about the Seeing Eye GPS app. Hi. Re: Apple TV audio
If you have the latest Apple TV, it will have an HDMI port, the rectangle one that feels like a USB. You can do what I did and buy a little box that connects to the port and then use a patch cord to run the audio to your RCA jacks on the stereo. The RCA jacks are the pair of inputs. This little box plugs into the wall for its power, and I got this one on Amazon for about $30: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KBHX072/ When you get it, set the switch to the middle position for audio output to the RCA on the little box. This box is an HDMI switch. It's used for those times when you have an input on a tv, but no way to get the audio to your stereo. Enjoy. Re: Audio Memos app now supports using the internal iDevice microphone in full frequency mode
hi, is it possible to rewind and forward using the free version and is it possible to listen at double speed or above using the free version or do you have to pay for that facility? thanks, Husna From: Neal Ewers Sent: Friday, April 10, 2015 7:30 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Audio Memos app now supports using the internal iDevice microphone in full frequency mode Hi, Like Boss Jock, this app now supports the removal of audio filters that are used by Apple to make the internal microphone use less bass response than the microphone can allow. Turn off these filters, and you have a very nice sounding, full frequency microphone. While Boss Jock can do the same thing, the Audio Memos app is less complicated because it is only for simple recording and not like Boss Jock which allows one to add and mix other sounds in with the recording. One nice thing about this app is that you can turn the filters back on and now you have the microphone just as it sounds with the apple processing. Sometimes I want to choose, and with this app, I can. There is a free version, and a paid version. The nice thing is that the paid version is as low as $0.99 and you can then decide on the in app purchases you want like voice activation and many others. The cost of the total app if you just want to purchase it out right is $9.99 The interface is very straight forward with a way to manually adjust the volume control and the limiter at the same time without having to deal with a lot of technical parameters. There are many ways to export recordings. You can use iCloud, email, Air Drop, DropBox, iTunes, and you can even send them directly to your computer by using a variant of your computer IP address to connect to the app. You can also export files to other applications such as BossJock. In addition, You can import songs from your music into the recorder. Two links below. First is to the iTunes app store where you can read more about and perhaps purchase this app. The second link is a short demo recording I made using both the filtered and unfiltered settings in the app. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/audio-memos-voice-recorder/id338550388?mt=8 https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10881362/Audio-Memos-App-demo.mp3 Enjoy. Re: Apple Watch Goes into Power Reserve on its own
This morning when it happened the watch was at 93% battery. Yeah I usually have to restart it at least once per day. I wonder if I should just restart it every morning to see if tat makes a difference. I charge it all night so by this time of morning it's not very run down yet. RE: iPhone Voice Recorder
If you mean you accidently deleted the Voice Memo app that comes with all iPhones then that cannot be so since it can’t be deleted. Apple Watch Goes into Power Reserve on its own
Don't know if anyone who as received their apple watch can replicate this or not. At least one, maybe twice, each day my Apple Watch involuntarily appears to go into battery reserve mode. I'm just sitting there, I feel a small vibration on my wrist with no accompanying sound, and then all is dead as if I've turned it off. Any thoughts are welcome. -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. All new members to the this list are moderated by default.
