Re: On-screen keyboard. With focus Braille

2013-12-27 Thread Cheryl Lenartiene
I find that the onscreen keyboard gets in mz way as well. I like it in certain
situations, such as for using Emoji, but that's what the show/hide onscreen
keyboard keystroke is for. :)

It is handy to have displayed. I especially like using the Emogy keyboard

correctly after you've inserted them into your text, but their labels don't
show up in Braille, so you must use speech to double check that you've got
the emoticons you want in your text.

I've set on-screen keyboard to off in settings but it still shows up
when I'm using the focus 40 blue. It also shows up when I'm using the
Braille Penn. this is new behavior. I don't know precisely when it
started. My guess is sometime after updating to iOS seven. Any
thoughts on this would be much appreciated.

Re: itunes downloaded books problem

2013-12-27 Thread Sherrie
Go to the iBooks app on your device and be sure you are signed in. Choose
Store. At the bottom right is a button for Purchases. This lists all your
purchases and gives you the option to download them to the device. For
instance I have an iphone and an iPad and the list shows up for both. Then I
could pick which books I wanted on which device since my husband reads from the
iPad and I read from the phone but both have the same Apple ID.
It should not matter what is on the computer iTunes. I found it easier to
browse the books from my phone as iTunes is much more confusing for me.

It is the first time that I downloaded books via itunes on my laptop. What I

appears in the app section in iTunes. How do I make sure that these will be

iTunes question, adding folder to library

2013-12-27 Thread Pablo Morales
Hi all.
I don't know if it is a problem of the last iTunes, but it never happened to me
before.I have my music in a folder in my documents for example. This folder is
called music, inside music are hundreds of folders like for example Alanis
Morissette, with mp3 of this artist inside this folder, and many other folders
like this for each artist. You know, Alanis Morissette, Alex Fox,Bond, etc.
Each folder has many many songs inside.
Before, when I been using iTunes, I went to add folder to library, and I was
able to for example in My Documents, go to Music, and add what ever folder I
want, Bond, or what ever artist folder I wanted. If later I want to add another
folder, then I had to go to add folder to library, and select another folder.
Now it is not possible. If I select add folder to library, and I go to the
folder Bond, and I select it. Later if I want to add another folder, iTunes
just shows me one folder inside music folder, when I have 143 folders inside.
The folder that iTunes shows me is the folder that I select previously. Why
iTunes doesn't show me the folders, all folders that I have in the folder music?

Re: Gift card

2013-12-27 Thread Sherrie
It is still in the app store in IOS7. I was having trouble finding the
redeem from the Featured tab on the app store. I knew it was at the bottom
but when I scrolled down to the bottom of a list of 100 items it wasn't
there. So I followed your advice and set the rotor to Heading sand swiped
down until it said heading not found . This did not find it either but then
when I used the three finger swipe up to go to page 3 it was there. So
thanks since I have a new gift card to input.

Brian, I'm running iOS 6.1.4 so I'm not sure if the below will work the

1. Open the Featured tab in the Apps Store.
2. The screen presents a swarm of icons for the various featured items
which

are grouped by heading. If you have the rotor set to headings, you can
single finger swipe up and down to move among the headings.
3. I find the easiest way to get to a button or control at the bottom of
a
multi-screen page is to put my finger on the leftmost button on the
bottom
row which is the selected Featured button in this case. When you swipe
left
once from this position, you will be moved to the last control on the
page.

4. The control you get to after that first swipe left is Terms and
Conditions. The second swipe left takes you to your Apple ID. The third
swipe left is Send Gift. The fourth swipe left is the Redeem control you
seek.

Good luck.

Hi,

You can download books from Bookshare from wtihin Voice Dream Reader or, if
a book is in Dropbox, add from there. In Voice dream Reader, choose Add, and
then choose Bookshare or Dropbox as needed. If it's the first time you've
added from a particular source, you'll need to fill in account details;
you'll be prompted to do this.

Converting Avi to MP4

2013-12-27 Thread Thom Spittle
Hi there group,

I got a mini mac for Christmas and want to convert my AVI files to MP4.

I also have 2 iPod 4thgens, and an iPhone 4s, an iPhone 5 and an apple TV.

I have a free avi to mp4 converter for windows. Here are my questions.

1. Is there a free or low cost converter, accessible for the mac (if
so which ones and the prices)?

2. This converter that I'm using takes a long while converting, what
customized settings are best for a good balance of quality on the Apple TV
for my children, and one that uses a smaller file size for transferring to
the iDevices?

3. Would converting them via the mac save time, since macs are so
boss?

Thanks in advance

Thom

Re: how to delete all emails at once instead of selecting 1 at a time

2013-12-27 Thread Robert Stigile
Hello All,
This method is a pain, because if you have more then 100 it will slow down, and
eventually voiceover stops talking until you delete that batch.
I find it interesting, that you can go in to the junk folder, and trash folder,
mark all of the e-mails, flag them, and then delete the entire amount at once,
but you can not do this with the inbox.
It seems to me, that Apple must have thought about doing this with the inbox,
or is going to allow it in a future release if the junk and trash folder allow
it.
Thanks,

Re: Safari: Not Seeing Multiple Pages when Pressing Pages Button

2013-12-27 Thread Craig Werner
Just in case anyone has this problem, I figured out the solution. If
you want pages to show up when using the pages button, you have to
add them as tabs using the add tab option in the pages button.
Although the button is labeled pages, it seems to me a better word
choice would have been tabs. The operation of the pages button
seems to me significantly diferent in iOS 7 than in previous versions.
Note there is even an option for private browsing. If this option is
enabled, it stays enabled until toggled off even if Safari is closed
and reopened.

Craig

Tiny External Battery

2013-12-27 Thread Brice Smith
Hi,

Does anyone here use a small, external battery pack? I'm considering
different options, but I'm not sure if I really need one of the giant
packs that fits in a bag or briefcase. I know many of you use 6,000 or
even as high as 18,000 mAh packs, but that's just one more thing you
have to carry around with you. I had a battery case for my old 4S, but
eventually grew tired of the weight on the sleek phone and took it off.

I've heard of a couple battery packs that are small enough to fit on
a key ring like a thumb drive or at least small enough to sit in a
pants pocket. These seem to be rare, though. There's one called the
JuiceBuddy, but it looks like it is only for the old 4/4S. I also saw
a Mophie 700 mAh charger and the reviews are mixed. Have any of you
bought one of these smaller keychain battery chargers?

 Thanks,
 Brice

Re: how to delete all emails at once instead of selecting 1 at a time

2013-12-27 Thread Rick Alfaro
Hi, I think we're aware of that method of deleting messages. What is
missing is some sort of select all button so that one doesn't have to
go through and select each and every message for deletion. Imagine how
tedious if you have a folder with 300 messages? Having to select one
message at a time before being able to delete them is very time
consuming. Most good email programs have a select all button so all of
the messages in the folder can easily be deleted and that very basic
feature is what is surprisingly missing in IOS mail..

RE: Tiny External Battery

2013-12-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Brice,

These small batteries exist from Mophie and other companies. Just keep in
mind that the iPhone 5S has a 1440 MAH battery so something with 800, 1,000
or even 1,200 MAH will not give you that much of a charge. I guess a 1,200
MAH stick would charge a 5S back up to 80% or so if you connected it at the
20% low battery warning so if all you need is a quick boost then these
should be OK, but I would not buy anything that is less than 1,000 MAH. I
would just check Amazon or simply Google it.

RE: how to delete all emails at once instead of selecting 1 at a time

2013-12-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Robert and others,

The ability to Delete All in the Trash folder has been there for a long
time. I personally couldn't care less whether there is a Delete All option
in the Inbox because at no time ever do I want to delete all my email. Of
course this depends on how you setup your mail accounts and I could see how
you might want to do this if you use POP where you also download the
messages on a computer. However, if you sync a mail account using IMAP or
Exchange/Exchange Active Sync, then you typically delete the messages you
don't want and leave those you do want because deleting all messages would
also delete them for good from all your other devices. I always have at
least 2 or 3 and sometimes 10 or 15 messages in my personal Inbox and
between 10 and 100 in my business Inbox and these are things I need to deal
with before I delete them or move them to a folder.
I know this question has come up before, but I wonder how many people would
actually use a Delete All option. Of course Apple could provide it making
sure to ask for at least one confirmation because the last thing you want to
do is accidently delete all your mail out of the Inbox although hopefully
you would notice the mistake and be able to get it back from the Trash
before you empty it.

Sieghard

Hello All,
This method is a pain, because if you have more then 100 it will slow down,
and eventually voiceover stops talking until you delete that batch.
I find it interesting, that you can go in to the junk folder, and trash
folder, mark all of the e-mails, flag them, and then delete the entire
amount at once, but you can not do this with the inbox.
It seems to me, that Apple must have thought about doing this with the
inbox, or is going to allow it in a future release if the junk and trash
folder allow it.
Thanks,

Re: Dish Anywhere App?

2013-12-27 Thread Shane Clark
Hi Jim,
Yes, I also too have Dish, and I have the app installed on my iPad. When I had
my iPhone, was also installed on there, I'll try to answer your questions as
best I can.
First of all, it is accessible, and you can schedule and delete recordings from
the app using VO, however, there are some inaccessible parts of the app which
I'll explain… The guide, it's totally inaccessible, and for the last year, I've
complained to Dish about this on and off, but nothing has been done to fix
this. So to work around this, I use the TV Guide mobile app, which I find to be
very useful… The on demand section of the app is totally accessible, the number
pad where you can type in a specific number to watch on your device, is also
excessable. Now, in earlier versions, you could set the recording, a pop-up
menu would appear asking do you want to record this, new shows, or everything,
you can choose which one, and from there it will record. However, with later
versions, I believe such as the current one, the pop-up menu appears, but it's
not read out for some reason. But you can try that out, and see just to be sure.
I hope I was able to help out with some of your questions, feel free

Sent to ask, if you have more.

An All Inbox Clear Button

2013-12-27 Thread Eileens Misrahi
Hello All,

After reading many threads on how to delete emails all at once, I decided to
see what all the hipe was all about. In both my Gmail and personal email
account, in the upper right hand corner there is an edit button. Once the
interface opens, if one double taps on the email to delete, VO will say
selected. Select all the emails one wants to get rid of, and then go to the
bottom left hand corner and tap on the delete button. VO will also announce the
number of deleted item. I believe that the Apple developers purposely did not
place a clear button to prevent users from deleting important emails
aidently. JMO. So, for all of those on this list who want an all clear
button, think twice about what you wish for. It might bite back in the future.
I guess I am not bothered by not having an all clear button for my email.

Take care.

Best,
Eileen

Re: deleting all emaisl

2013-12-27 Thread Chris H

Hi
why not turn organize by thread on in the mail section of settings? This
will not directly solve problems deleting all e-mails but it will make
things quicker as selecting trash will evidently trash the entire thread
and not just the individual messages in that thread.

RE: Aftershokz Bluez audio breaking up?

2013-12-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi List,

I just had a look at their website and considering that these are a
relatively recent device I am surprised they only use the Bluetooth 2.1
standard. Bluetooth 3.0 and 4.0 are much better when it comes to this
breaking up issue and it's enough of a reason why I would hold off buying
these. Most devices nowadays support Bluetooth 3.0 or even 4.0 so why not
use it.

Yes, this is probably my only complaint regarding this headset. it's
bluetooth range isn't very good and certain positions of the phone can
easily cause sound to break up. mostly, it's OK and suits my needs but
this seems to be a weak spot for this model.

what is the use of Character count in Messaging?

2013-12-27 Thread Cris Ali
hello folks,
the subject says it all. I set Character count in messages to on. I assumed
it would tell me the number of the characters I typed in the message before I
send it. Most carriers set a limit of 140 characters in each message, if one
goes beyond this number the message would be partitioned into two. This way
the person may pay more in carriers fees than intended. However, I could not
find out where and how I would know the number of the Characters I type.
Does anyone know how to make this work?
Cheers,

Cris

Re: how to delete all emails at once instead of selecting 1 at a time

Sieghard,

I would definitely use a select all if it was available. I use imap and
typically read most of my email on my desktop pc but for some reason,

course this depends on how you setup your mail accounts and I could see how
you might want to do this if you use POP where you also download the
messages on a computer.

Hello All,
This method is a pain, because if you have more then 100 it will slow down,
and eventually voiceover stops talking until you delete that batch.
Thanks,

Re: Merry christmas and Happy Holidays

2013-12-27 Thread Alan Paganelli
I hope Santa treated everybody on the list very well this year. Although we
haven't picked them out yet, my wife and I gave each other an iPad Air. My
2009 Asuse Netbook that I use for email and web browsing is getting old, we
decided that the iPad Air would make a suitable replacement. We want the
128 GB model but we'll see what they have when we get to the ATT store.
Sense we also travel in our motor home we want the model with cellular data
too. More choices you know.

Can anybody tell me, does the iPad Air have stereo speakers or does it have
the single mono speaker like the iPhone has?

Alan

It has stereo speakers. Unfortunately, the separation isn't all that great, but
given the devices size, it's understandable.

App that has physical modules it can ping in order to locate them.

2013-12-27 Thread Neal Ewers
Hi, Is there any company that makes an app that has small physical objects
that can be made to make a noise so as to locate them? I used to have
something like this, but it was not an app. You had a small box that was a
transmitter and several small receiver objects you could attach to things
like a water bottle and you could press a button and cause the module
attached to the water bottle Etc. to make a noise. Is there such a thing
that can be interfaced with the iPhone?

Thanks.

RE: what is the use of Character count in Messaging?

2013-12-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Chris,

Character Count only shows for actual text messages, it does not show for
iMessages where the 160 character count does not apply. I think, by the way,
that for most carriers it's 160 carriers, not 140 which I think is the
Twitter limit for a message.

Anyhow, if you turned it on, you should hear Voiceover announce the
character count if you swipe past the Sent button. It used to be before the
Sent button in iOS 6, but now it's after.

OK, interestingly enough I just started a text message to somebody and it
did not show, but I know for sure that just a few days ago I saw it when I
swiped past the Sent button.

Regards,

Sieghard

Subject: what is the use of Character count in Messaging?

hello folks,

the subject says it all. I set Character count in messages to on. I
assumed it would tell me the number of the characters I typed in the message
before I send it. Most carriers set a limit of 140 characters in each
message, if one goes beyond this number the message would be partitioned
into two. This way the person may pay more in carriers fees than intended.
However, I could not find out where and how I would know the number of the
Characters I type.

Does anyone know how to make this work?

Cheers,

Cris

Almost correct, Joseph, the rotor has to be on Actions which is where it
should be by default. If you set it to characters swiping down will just
read character by character.

Re: Forwarding a text?

2013-12-27 Thread Chasity Jackson

Hi Chris,

I did not see actions as an option in my router. I went to settings,
accessibility, then router to add it to the router, and I do not find
anything for actions. Can you please tell me what to do next?

Thanks,
Chasity

Almost correct, Joseph, the rotor has to be on Actions which is where it
should be by default. If you set it to characters swiping down will just
read character by character.

should hear something called more button and once you that button selected text

RE: Forwarding a text?

2013-12-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Chassity,

You have to be inside a message. By default the rotor should be on Actions
and you can swipe down or up because More and Activate Item are the only 2
choices.
If your rotor is on Characters, turn the rotor counter clockwise and you'll
get to Actions.

Once you hear More then double tap and the message you were on will be
automatically selected. You can double tap on other messages in the thread
and select them and then at the bottom of the screen you will find Delete
on the left and Forward on the right.

You can forward to another mobile number, but you can also type in
somebody's email. I just tried this by forwarding a message to my own email
and it arrived instantly showing my mobile number @msg.koodoMobile.com as
the Sender because Koodo is my provider so just as I can email a text
message by sending it to my mobile number @msg.KoodoMobile.com I can do it
in reverse.
Most carriers have an address like @msg.telus.net or @msg.KoodoMobile.com
and if you know somebody's provider you can send text messages to that
person for free from your email.

Regards,
Sieghard

RE: Forwarding a text?

2013-12-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Chassity,

The Action rotor is not something you can add or take away. It's there by
default in certain apps or situations. For example, if you open the mail app
and are in your Inbox, the rotor automatically is on Actions so you can
delete messages easily by swiping up once which puts the action rotor on
Trash and then all you have to do is double tap anywhere. So, a single
swipe up and a double tap and you deleted the message you were just on.
If you swipe down in the Mail app you also get a More option and if you
double tap on it you get options like Reply, Forward, Move etc.

In the messages app if you are in your main list of messages, the rotor
works the same way as in the Inbox, you have Delete and Activate Item/.
If you are inside a message thread you have a More option which selects
the message you are on or allows you to double tap on multiple messages to
select them and then it gives you the option to Delete and Forward them. You
also have a Delete All button at the top left so if you have a
conversation with a bunch of messages and you want to delete all messages
but leave the person's entry in the main window so you can go in there to
send a new message, you can use the Delete All to clear all the messages in
that conversation.

If this is still not clear feel free to write me off-list at
siegh...@live.ca and I'll go over it with you some more.

Sieghard

Hi,

I don't think you can activate/set up a phone without a SIM. I believe you
do have to put in a SIM for the initial setup, later you can remove it and

RE: App that has physical modules it can ping in order to locate them.

Hi Neil,

I once bought a bluetooth gadget from the same site where you buy the
Standscan, www.Standscan.com. It is supposed to do this and it does, but I
find it complicated and I believe it was $20 or something like this, so not
exactly something where you want to buy 4 or 5 of these.

I could see that as Apple's iBeacon technology advances and becomes more
common place this might easily be possible for a relatively low cost.

RE: how to delete all emails at once instead of selecting 1 at a time

2013-12-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Rick,

If you use gmail and use the gmail account type when you setup your
account this should not happen and the same goes for choosing Outlook.com if
you are using an Outlook.com or Hotmail email. If you are using a provider's
email with POP I can't really say since I haven't used POP in 4 years. I
want hassle-free email and contact synchronization and by that I mean email
synchronization including showing which emails I read, replied to and
forwarded and I want my Sent messages to be there on all my computers and
devices and not only emails I received. I tried gmail and always come back
to Outlook.com which uses Exchange Active Sync and which for me always seems
to work better overall than IMAP.

Sieghard,

I would definitely use a select all if it was available. I use imap and
typically read most of my email on my desktop pc but for some reason, even
though I delete them as I read them on my desktop, they still remain on my
iDevices so as a result, I sometimes have hundreds of emails in my IOS
inboxes. Do I have something setup incorrectly perhaps?

The ability to Delete All in the Trash folder has been there for a

All option in the Inbox because at no time ever do I want to delete
all my email. Of course this depends on how you setup your mail
accounts and I could see how you might want to do this if you use POP
where you also download the messages on a computer. However, if you
sync a mail account using IMAP or Exchange/Exchange Active Sync, then
you typically delete the messages you don't want and leave those you
do want because deleting all messages would also delete them for good
from all your other devices. I always have at least 2 or 3 and
sometimes 10 or 15 messages in my personal Inbox and between 10 and
100 in my business Inbox and these are things I need to deal with before I
delete them or move them to a folder.
I know this question has come up before, but I wonder how many people
would actually use a Delete All option. Of course Apple could provide
it making sure to ask for at least one confirmation because the last
thing you want to do is accidently delete all your mail out of the
Inbox although hopefully you would notice the mistake and be able to
get it back from the Trash before you empty it.

 Hello All,
This method is a pain, because if you have more then 100 it will slow
down, and eventually voiceover stops talking until you delete that batch.
I find it interesting, that you can go in to the junk folder, and
trash folder, mark all of the e-mails, flag them, and then delete the
entire amount at once, but you can not do this with the inbox.
It seems to me, that Apple must have thought about doing this with the
inbox, or is going to allow it in a future release if the junk and
 trash folder allow it.
 Thanks,

Yes, Choose Edit when your in box is open and the list of e-mails
is on the screen, tap each e-mail on the list twice to select it.
When you're ready, delete them all at once by moving to the trash or
 deleting.

If your rotor is on Characters, turn the rotor counter clockwise and
you'll

get to Actions.

Once you hear More then double tap and the message you were on will be
automatically selected. You can double tap on other messages in the thread
and select them and then at the bottom of the screen you will find
Delete

on the left and Forward on the right.

You can forward to another mobile number, but you can also type in
somebody's email. I just tried this by forwarding a message to my own
email

and it arrived instantly showing my mobile number @msg.koodoMobile.com as
the Sender because Koodo is my provider so just as I can email a text
message by sending it to my mobile number @msg.KoodoMobile.com I can do it
in reverse.
Most carriers have an address like @msg.telus.net or @msg.KoodoMobile.com
and if you know somebody's provider you can send text messages to that
person for free from your email.

Sieghard

Home sharing, to a sound system?

2013-12-27 Thread Pablo Morales
Hi all.
Yesterday I made this question, but let me try asking this question in a
different way.
I have a computer with a large storage of music inside. I have a apple TV in
one room, here I am able to play videos and music storage in my computer.
, Now, I have a sound system in the living room. It has a Bluetooth receiver,
and it doesn't have wifi connection.
How can I share the music storage in my computer to the sound system?
Using home sharing in my iPhone, and connecting my iPhone to the Bluetooth
receiver in my sound system?
How can I do it?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Check out Tile http://www.thetileapp.com/
I backed this company when they were first looking for funding because
I thought the technology sounded promissing and whilst they're not
shipping orders yet, they seem to have come a long way since I first
read about them.

The usual disclaimor for untested software applies here; since the
Tiles aren't shipping yet, I can't vouch for the accessibility of the
app.

Cheers,
Ben.

Hello All,
This method is a pain, because if you have more then 100 it will slow

down,

and eventually voiceover stops talking until you delete that batch.
Thanks,

Yes, Choose Edit when your in box is open and the list of e-mails is
on the screen, tap each e-mail on the list twice to select it. When
you're ready, delete them all at once by moving to the trash or
deleting.

Hello All,
This method is a pain, because if you have more then 100 it will slow
down, and eventually voiceover stops talking until you delete that batch.

When you're ready, delete them all at once by moving to the trash or
deleting.

Penny

I've always wondered the same thing. The IOS mail program otherwise

Hi,

Nope. There is no way. This is a feature that I've wanted Apple
to add to IOS for years now. Since IOS 3 to be exact. hahaha. It
seems like such a basic feature in a Mail application, I wonder why
Apple chooses to leave it out.

The Logitech A-10 keyboard is an excellent option. This keyboard will all you
two pair up to three devices and you can switch among them. You can get it from
Amazon.com or from Logitech.com.

Reading Receipts

2013-12-27 Thread Amy
Hi list,
Looking for opinions on what apps are good for reading receipts?

I have perfect OCR. Got it when it was free. Don't have great luck with it.
Perhaps it is operator error. I really used to like talking goggles in video
mode. However, I have noticed that it no longer automatically speaks results as
it scans. I really thought that app had great potential when it first came out.

RE: Reading Receipts

2013-12-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Amy,

Any of the OCR apps would work but results will depend on how well you can
aim and hold the iPhone and how good the receipts are. Some receipts are
even hard to read for a sighted person.
I think most people here would say Prizmo or Text Grabber, some also like
Text Detective.

Talking Goggles still works for me, i.e. if I put it in video mode it still
talks automatically when I show it something where it recognizes text.

Sieghard
