I'm copying Apple Accessibility with this message since we are getting very
different results.
Holly, you asked Siri to spell yesterday, and the American female said
"yestertay" but spelled it with a d.
I did the same thing but the Siri American Female said "yesterday" and spelled
it with the d, of course.
But, the Siri American male voice said, "yestertay", and spelled with the d.
I could not get any other voice, Siri or VoiceOver to say "yestertay."
However, others have had samantha and tom, and others say yesterday as
yestertay.
This all makes less than no sense and is probably impossible to track down
since it is not a consistent bug.
Since Apple is likely done with iOS 13 now those who are bothered by this are
probably stuck with it until at least iOS 14.

Your subject line said, wired.

The challenge will be to find a wired headset that has the lightning plug.

Or, do you have the lightning to 3.5 MM adapter?

Good luck in finding a good quality headset for $50.

I’m sure there are some out there.

Re: changing speed of podcast playback

2020-03-25 Thread Phoebe Harris
Here's how I change speed in the native podcast app:
1. Find a podcast episode
2. Double tap on the episode to start playing it
3. Double tap the episode again to bring up the Now Playing screen
4. Swipe right until you hear something like "Playback speed, Normal
speed button" and double tap that button to find your desired speed
The Playback speed button is between the volume slider and the
Playback Destination button. You can also find it by touching the
lower left corner of the screen.
I hope that helps.

RE: How does your Voiceover pronounce yesterday after the iOS 13.4 upgrade?

2020-03-25 Thread Alan Lemly
Richard,

I had tried modifying my Voiceover pronunciations to customize yesterday to
correct this issue without success until I was successful now by spelling the
substitution word as yesterday spelling the second syllable as t u r instead of
t e r. For some strange reason, this corrects the pronunciation. Spelling the
substitution word with an upper case D for day did not change my iPhone's
pronunciation of the last syllable as if it began with a t.

Thanks for all the responses on this issue which I still find a bit perplexing
considering our varying results. But I'll put it to bed now.

Well, for those who are experiencing this, have you tried going into VoiceOver
settings, Speech, pronunciation and put in yesterday with the substitution as
yester space day to see if it solves the issue, though it may have a bit of a
pause in the middle.

And, of course, everyone should write Apple, but given how inconsistent it is,

Re: How does your Voiceover pronounce yesterday after the iOS 13.4 upgrade?

2020-03-25 Thread J. Cyr
I mentioned this issue earlier today when I called Apple Accessibility on an
unrelated matter. That advisor hadn't heard of and could not duplicate the
problem. I downloaded the update this evening and I too have both Samantha and
Siri pronouncing yesterday as yestertay. So I called Apple Accessibility back
to report it. Again this advisor had not heard of this issue. It would seem
that the more people who are experiencing the problem and contact Accessibility
the better. It would be ood to get it as a topic trending on their feed.

Hi,

Microsoft Teams is completely accessible with on both PC and mobile devices.
Have used it without an issue.

Adding below the link from Microsoft with the complete information on how
to use Teams on various devices with screen reader.
information it includes is for iOS, MacOS, Android, Web and WIndows PC.

On PC you can either down the application or can use your browser to access

Well, my iPhone 8 running iOS 13.4 pronounces it as yesterTay whether I'm using
Samantha enhanced or Tom enhanced or the Siri female Voiceover voices. When I
got Siri to say it, she also mispronounces it.

I think some of you are confusing Siri with Voice Over. They are two separate
voices.

Re: Recommendations of Wired headset for I Phone XR no earbuds please

2020-03-25 Thread Richard Turner
Another thought is to check out known brands like Sony, Koss, JVL, etc.
You will want a frequency range from probably from 50 or 100 hertz, to 16000,
to 2 hertz so you are covering a good range from decent base to high treble.
If you have any stores in your area, you might try calling to ask what they
have.
Its hard to find the specs listed on web sites like Amazon, though you might if
you dig deeply enough.

Your subject line said, wired.
The challenge will be to find a wired headset that has the lightning plug.
Or, do you have the lightning to 3.5 MM adapter?

Good luck in finding a good quality headset for $50.

I’m sure there are some out there.

Usually, attachments are at the bottom of the message.

I usually touch the lower left corner, then flick left, and most of the time, I
land right on the attachment and double tap.

Sometimes it will say double tap to download, then once the file name shows up,
another double tap will open it.

Once in a while, I have to flick left to get beyond the signature, then find
the attachment.

Re: Attachments in Native Mail

2020-03-25 Thread Richard Turner
Usually, attachments are at the bottom of the message.
I usually touch the lower left corner, then flick left, and most of the time, I
land right on the attachment and double tap.
Sometimes it will say double tap to download, then once the file name shows up,
another double tap will open it.
Once in a while, I have to flick left to get beyond the signature, then find
the attachment.

Depending on his version of the operating system, you can try to restart the
Mac in recovery mode. Hold the command and r keys together at startup and keep
them down. You should be able to access the recovery HD. From there, select,
terminal, from the utilities menu and use the

My husband has a Mac mini that he has not used for about four years. He is

RE: How does your Voiceover pronounce yesterday after the iOS 13.4 upgrade?

2020-03-25 Thread Richard Turner
I did more experimenting.

If I set VoiceOver to use the Siri American Female, or got Siri to say the word
Yesterday, it sounded normal.
When I switched to the Siri American Male, it said yestertay with the t
instead of a d as in day.
But for me, no other VoiceOver voice mispronounced yesterday.

So, now that this horse has been beaten to death, I’m going to leave this
thread alone.
No company can really sort out a bug that is completely inconsistent. So,
whatever crept into some voices that screw up the pronunciation perhaps will go
away after the next update.
Or not.
Very odd stuff this.

Richard

2020-03-25 Thread Richard Turner
Wayne,
Alan, who began this thread, specifically said he was using VoiceOver, not Siri.

He mentioned Samantha and Tom.

I have no issues with any voice in VoiceOver.

Now, are you saying that you have tried it with VoiceOver using the Siri
female, or just asking Siri to say Yesterday, or what?

Mail, update and voice over

2020-03-25 Thread Anne West
Hi everyone.

I updated my phone and found my mail to be as before. I also found that my
phone operates more smoothly. I turned on "Hey Siri" always so hope it
doesn't call 911 like it did previously.

A strange thing happens with some of the updates. I use Samantha Enhanced
for my voice and when I update, the voice changes to a lower pitch. Powering
off doesn't help but it goes back to the way I like it shortly after I use
the phone. Odd. Anyone else have the same thing? I use an iPhone 8.

Stay safe everyone.

Anne

Hi List,

I know pronunciation issues are miniscule with everything going on now but I'm
curious why Voiceover seems to have problems with the pronunciation of certain
words after iOS upgrades. I upgraded to iOS 13.4 yesterday on my iPhone 8 and I
notice that the last syllable of the word yesterday is now pronounced as if it
begins with the letter t instead of with the letter d. I'm getting this same
mispronunciation with both Samantha enhanced and Tom enhanced and am curious if
others are also experiencing it. I was reviewing a list of recent app upgrades
in the App Store and they are tagged with the upgrade day and I got tired of
hearing yesterday pronounced as yesterTay.

Thanks for any confirmation of this mispronunciation issue.

Hi
I do not know of any beginner books for Facebook and IPhone but do have a
couple of suggestions for your immediate problem.

If you have to compose the post, I recommend that you compose it on your
computer and then email it to yourself providing that you have your mail app
set up. Then copy and paste the post to your wall by creating a new post.

If the information is already on the web, double tap the "more" button to find
the share button. The share button may appear on the menu or tab on Safari.
Double tap the share button and if you are using the Facebook app on your

I hope this helps.

I tried at several reading speeds, and I did not hear anything like a

This is very odd that some people are experiencing it and others are not.

I don't have it with any voice.
I even had my wife listen and mine is saying it correctly.

I'm catching up on my mail and found this message. I experience this issue
whenever I get a new phone, or occasionally after an iOS update.
It is annoying, but usually I have to set the song again and it stays that way.
Not sure if it is related to the issue or not, but if after you update the
phone, if you then close all apps, shut the phone down, and start it up fresh,
does the issue still occur? Though the radar does get me up, I would much
rather hear my own songs verses that annoying radar.

Hang in there and be well,

Re: Dilemma with Wake-up Alarm Song

2020-03-25 Thread Wayne Merritt
I'm catching up on my mail and found this message. I experience this
issue whenever I get a new phone, or occasionally after an iOS update.
It is annoying, but usually I have to set the song again and it stays
that way. Not sure if it is related to the issue or not, but if after
you update the phone, if you then close all apps, shut the phone down,
and start it up fresh, does the issue still occur? Though the radar
does get me up, I would much rather hear my own songs verses that
annoying radar.

Hang in there and be well,
Wayne

RE: Recommendations of Wired headset for I Phone XR no earbuds please

2020-03-25 Thread Richard Turner
Your subject line said, wired.
The challenge will be to find a wired headset that has the lightning plug.
Or, do you have the lightning to 3.5 MM adapter?

Good luck in finding a good quality headset for $50.

I’m sure there are some out there.

Hello all,
I’ve been searching for what’s in subject line. I had a nice Harman Kardan
headset but cannot find it anywhere. Its all blue tooth. I don’t want to pay
more than $50 if possible
Thanks

Hello all,

While I am not experiencing this issue with Samantha and hands, I definitely
hear it when I switch over to the American female Siri voice.

RE: IOS13.4’Ms Mail app interface changed

2020-03-25 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I don’t think Apple can use COVID-19 as an excuse for not fixing certain bugs
which have been around since last September.
For example, I use the SIRI Female voice for Voiceover and it’s been saying
“TickTight” instead of “Dictate” since iOS 13 came out, when I emailed Apple
Accessibility about it I received a reply saying they were aware of the issue,
were working on it but had no time when it would be fixed. I really am not sure
why something like this where Apple has full control over the synthesizer is so
difficult to fix.
This is also just one example and the worst part is that now with iOS 13.4 if
you use the SIRI Female and to some degree also the Male voice, it pronounces
“Yesterday” as “Yestertay”, as in “day” with a “t” sound.
Of course these are just minor inconveniences, but another thing is for sure,
given Apple’s level of technology I am sure a lot of their people are perfectly
capable of working remotely and I wouldn’t be surprised if they hadn’t already
done so before, developing software and collaborating with potentially dozens
and hundreds of other developers and programmers is probably already done
remotely to a large degree.

Best regards,
Sieghard

We must realize that Apple, in California, is most likely closed down totally
or operating on a minimal employee staff. I agree that bugs should be fixed
before an update is released but I have a feeling some things will slip through
the cracks during the Pandemic. We all need to give Apple some slack as we do
other businesses. Yes, a release delay would be understandable.

How does your Voiceover pronounce yesterday after the iOS 13.4 upgrade?

2020-03-25 Thread Alan Lemly
Hi List,

I know pronunciation issues are miniscule with everything going on now but
I'm curious why Voiceover seems to have problems with the pronunciation of
certain words after iOS upgrades. I upgraded to iOS 13.4 yesterday on my
iPhone 8 and I notice that the last syllable of the word yesterday is now
pronounced as if it begins with the letter t instead of with the letter d.
I'm getting this same mispronunciation with both Samantha enhanced and Tom
enhanced and am curious if others are also experiencing it. I was reviewing
a list of recent app upgrades in the App Store and they are tagged with the
upgrade day and I got tired of hearing yesterday pronounced as yesterTay.

Thanks for any confirmation of this mispronunciation issue.

is there a way to speed up podcast playback on the native podcast app? if so,
how do you do it?

In the visual GUI, the iOS podcast app shows the current playback speed in the
lower left corner when you have the current podcast playing and "now playing"
mode/display is in effect. By pressing on the speed icon you toggle it ... it
cycles from 1x to 1 1/2x 2x 1/2x 1x

RE: bug - heading is called edit textfield

2020-03-25 Thread Richard Turner
For me, it happens very seldom, but here is what the AppleVis team mentions on
new bugs in iOS 13.4
VoiceOver will on occasions wrongly indicate that some blocks of text are
editable text fields, resulting in VoiceOver speaking feedback such as “text
field, editing“, “double tap to edit” or “character mode” before speaking the
text. Typically, this behavior only occurs on the first paragraph when
navigating by swiping, but may occur more frequently if navigating by touch.
This is most prevalent in Safari, but has also been encountered in several
other apps. Our experience suggests that apps pulling the text from the web are
most likely to exhibit this behaviour - such as RSS readers and news apps. This
behavior is particularly intrusive if you have VoiceOver hints enabled, so you
may want to disable this option until this issue has been resolved.

You can read their entire blog post on iOS 13.4 here:
https://www.applevis.com/blog/update-now-available-apple-release-ios-134-and-ipados-134-march-24-several-new-features-mixed

Interacting with Trendy topics in Twitterrific?

2020-03-25 Thread Gerardo Corripio
For those who, like me, use Twitterrific for witter here on the iPhone, and
you’d like to interact within a Trendy topic which you can access via the
Search option, how do you make it so That it could autofill the TT name in the
field, adding what you want to have tweeted, like you can within the Twitter
Official app?

How do you do that, and also how would one forward to eight
people, as I was asked to do yesterday. I told the person
that I could not, but that I'd try to find out how to do it.
I can reply OK.

I tried to get Siri to forward for the eight people, and
didn't get that right either.

But, then, when this morning, I asked, "how much is one
share of Duke Energy?" and she replied, "I can't answer
that..." I guess, she's about as big a gamble as the market.
