Re: How to transfer Whatsapp mesages from old Iphone to new Iphone?

2021-01-29 Thread Øyvind Lode
Brad's suggestion should work but personally I don't ever use iTunes.
I only back up data to iCloud and when I install WhatsApp on a new
device I configure WhatsApp to restore from that backup and all works
fine.
I have only done this during installation of whatsapp on new device,
so I don't know if it's possible after whatsapp is set up.
If you are sure that data on old device is backed up to iCloud
(whatsapp's own backup in whatsapp settings) I would try setting up
whatsapp from scratch on new device and when prompted by whatsapp to
restore from that backup.
As I said this process always works for me.
That said I'm not even close to 1 GB of data though but I don't think
that makes any difference.
My whatsapp backup is about 50 MB and only includes text messages.
I never backup audio/video/pics.

RE: 14.4 requires 6 digit passcode?

2021-01-29 Thread Cher Bosch
Thank you for your comment. After the update, I was presented with that initial
‘Hello’ screen and instructed to set up the iPhone. I don’t think that normally
happens when moving from 14.3 to 14.4 for example. Anyway, all is well now.

Hi! Cher:

Michael McKay here. Thank you for the information. As I had mentioned in my
last email to the group, I downloaded and installed the update last night.

I was waiting for it to say it needed or required the digital code for some
reason the iOS 14.4 upgrade or update did not even ask me for it.

Instead it went straight to the main screen of my iPhone, and was totally
updated. I do not know What the reason is that it’s requiring it for some
users, but not for others I would ask if someone has the time to find out or to
inquire maybe they could let us know, but on my end everything is functioning
well, and working fine.

I have no doubt that one day they will absolutely requires a code no matter
what but this time around I didn’t have to enter one.

All the best to you, And fellow List members.

Have a blessed weekend!

six digit passcode and then after setup, go into settings and change it to
something more suitable later. I can't imagine they'd remove the option to
customize your passcode from the passcode and id settings. Unfortunately, no

If you flick right, you should get to a point in the screen where you can
choose different options including a shorter four digit passcode or something
alphanumeric. Just remember you'll have to remember and use it whenever you
unlock your phone and don't use touch or face id. There are also other

I‘m the original poster and I already had an established 4 digit numeric
passcode. After updating, I was not getting an option button to choose anything
except to provide a 6 digit code. Apple did a screen share and the rep saw the
same scenario- that I had experienced many, many times. He had me flick both
directions several times to verify that I was not being presented with any
other options. In my previous replies, I have explained the full order of

last email to the group, I downloaded and installed the update last night.

Michael G. McKay BA, ‘05.

If you flick right, you should get to a point in the screen where you can
choose different options including a shorter four digit passcode or
something alphanumeric. Just remember you'll have to remember and use it
whenever you unlock your phone and don't use touch or face id. There are
also other circumstances when you'll be occasionally asked for your
 passcode.

Calendar question.

2021-01-29 Thread Jenny Bomareto
Hello all,

Do you know how with the calendar you can share with just more than one person
for an appointment well I want to take one of the people off because I don’t
feel it’s necessary for this person to be in there anymore. So how do I delete
the name on the calendar so she doesn’t get the notifications. Thank you so
much and advance.

Thanks for your prompt attention!

Re: Looking for a good medicine reminder app

2021-01-29 Thread Wayne Merritt
I've tried the Walgreens app for reminding me of a once a week med,
and after a period of time, it stopped working with the reminder I
set. I have gone into the app and pulled up the reminder, and it is
there but it did not work. Or, perhaps it worked again for a few weeks
and then it would stop again. I'm not usually one to recommend the
native apps, but I have found setting reminders to be very reliable. I
use Fantastical II to set the reminder, but this would likely work the
same way in the native Reminders app. I haven't missed a dose yet by
the weekly reminders. Once I mark the task/reminder as complete, it
disappears from the current week and it shows up for the next week as
a to-do task. I'm pretty good about taking daily meds, but needed a
reminder for this once a week medication. Your mileage may vary.

Be well,
Wayne Merritt

No, movies are no different than music.

You can delete and re-download at will.

I contacted Apple and they said it couldn't be resolved. Does your idea work
with already purchased shows in HD format?

No need to contact Apple. This issue is easily resolved as follows:

1. Open the TV app on your iPhone, and delete the content you wish to
re-download, then close the TV app.

2. Go to, Settings > TV > Video Definition. (This is found under the
Purchases & Rentals heading).

3. Select Standard Definition as your desired download format.

Note: If you select Standard Definition, only videos in Standard Definition
will be shown as an option when you purchase or rent videos. If the title is
not available in SD, you may not find it when doing a search.

4. Open the TV app, and go to your library where you should be able to
re-download the content in SD, if available in this format.

But if you are really nice and explain what a pain it is to deal with chats
they may help you with it, at least to get the answer if you can downgrade to

Hello Listers,

I recently purchased a series on iTunes and got it in HD instead of the SD
version. I'm listening/viewing the show on my iPhone. Is there any way to
change this since my internet's slow and shows in HD take longer to stream or
download? Thanks for any input.

Dear Requestors,

The AT Center would like to share with you this update from APH regarding
the Mantis Q40 and Chameleon 20...

"We have identified connection issues for the Mantis Q40 and Chameleon 20 after
upgrading to iOS 14.4. We recommend that you turn off automatic updates, and do
not upgrade to 14.4. This is a regression introduced by Apple in this release.
We alerted them to this issue during 14.4 beta testing, and we hope they will
correct it in a possible 14.4.1 release. Stay tuned to your inbox for further
updates.

Once upgraded to iOS 14.4, and as soon as users lock their iPad or iPhone with
the Mantis or Chameleon connected, the braille display will not automatically
reconnect once the device wakes back up. You can force it to reconnect by
leaving the terminal and reconnecting from there, but then you won’t get
braille. The only way to get braille back is to toggle Bluetooth on the iOS
device, but the issue will happen again as soon as you lock your device or it
goes to sleep.

To stop an iOS device from auto updating, do the following:

* Open the Settings app

* Activate the General option

* Activate the Software Update option

* Activate the Automatic Updates option

* Turn off both, “download iOS updates,” and “Install iOS updates.”

If you’ve already updated to iOS 14.4, please refer to this link for
instructions on how to downgrade your iOS device:

Yes, of course. Nothing has changed.

The original poster did not have a passcode to begin with, and was confused
because they were being asked to create one.

RE: 14.4 requires 6 digit passcode?

2021-01-29 Thread Cher Bosch
I’m the original poster. I had a 4 digit code before updating. During the
set-up after the update, the dialog demanded that I put in a 6 digit code.
Putting in my 4 digit code would not satisfy the dialog. I was not provided any
options- and backing out of the screen and trying again presented the same
demand for a 6 digit code. The 3 finger flick up eventually provided an options
button- which let me choose a 4 digit code. You can turn it off afterward in
‘Touch ID and Passcodes’.

Re: Connecting my TV App with my other Apps

2021-01-29 Thread Brad Snyder
I believe that connected apps just show up automatically.
when you search for a show in the TV app, if it is available on one of your
connected apps, like Hulu, when you select that show, it will automatically
open the Hulu app so you can watch that show on the Hulu app.

RE: Question about an iTunes purchase

2021-01-29 Thread Richard Turner
I’d triple check that before deleting and trying that.
In fact, maybe go in and change the default format and try redownloading it
before deleting the one you have.
In the recesses of my memory, I think movies are treated differently than music.

Re: A Bluetooth Question

2021-01-29 Thread Brad Snyder
During a call, there should be a button on the call screen to select output
device.

One option was Bluetooth headphones, or in reality, Bluetooth speakers,

The only other option would be after the call starts, to open the control
center and see if you can select your speakers from the media destination.
Or maybe just open Bluetooth settings and select the speaker.

Or, like you already said, it could be a Bose issue.
I'd contact bose if the other things do not work.

In answer to your question, I can initiate a call with the speaker. But it

Subject: Looking for a good medicine reminder app

I know this is a huge category on the app store so I thought I would ask the
list first. I need a good med reminder app that will allow me to configure
several meds with flexible scheduling and the ability to nag me until the med
is taken. I’ve already tried a few of them and unfortunately many of them
suffer from unlabeled buttons and other accessibility issues.

Any suggestions based on your experiences welcomed.

Re: Question about an iTunes purchase

2021-01-29 Thread Brad Snyder

Hello Listers,

I recently purchased a series on iTunes and got it in HD instead of the SD

change this since my internet's slow and shows in HD take longer to stream or
download? Thanks for any input.

I cannot find the setting that used to be there to set where calls go by
default.
One option was Bluetooth headphones, or in reality, Bluetooth speakers,
headphones, etc.
The only other option would be after the call starts, to open the control
center and see if you can select your speakers from the media destination.
Or maybe just open Bluetooth settings and select the speaker.

Or, like you already said, it could be a Bose issue.
I'd contact bose if the other things do not work.

RE: A Bluetooth Question

2021-01-29 Thread Deb Cook Lewis
On mine, there's a button that performs various functions and one is to switch
between the phone and the speaker if it is pressed and held when you want it to
change.

Down loading, and installing iOS 14.4 update:

2021-01-29 Thread Michael McKay
Hello! Everyone:

I just wanted to let everybody know my experience in downloading, and
installing the iOS 14.4 update for the iPhone.

I currently use the iPhone 7 Plus, and have downloaded the update with no
problems whatsoever.

In fact, it did not even go to the option of the six digit code. It simply went
straight to the main screen when it was updated and installed.

Since then I have had no problems with anything on the phone, and how it
functions everything function functioning within normal parameters thus far. I
will let The List know if I have any issues in the future.

Have a great day, and a great weekend.

Cheers!
Michael G. McKay BA, ‘05.

Re: Looking for a good medicine reminder app

2021-01-29 Thread Priscilla Garces (prisci)
Hi,
You can try out the Walgreens app. It is a pretty good app that can remind you
about taking medicine.
Another one is called Medisafe.
It’s available at this link:

Looking for a good medicine reminder app

2021-01-29 Thread rick.alfaro
I know this is a huge category on the app store so I thought I would ask the
list first. I need a good med reminder app that will allow me to configure
several meds with flexible scheduling and the ability to nag me until the
med is taken. I've already tried a few of them and unfortunately many of
them suffer from unlabeled buttons and other accessibility issues.

Any suggestions based on your experiences welcomed.

Warmest regards

Rick Alfaro

RE: Question about an iTunes purchase

2021-01-29 Thread Richard Turner
I think this is one you need to call Apple about.
You could try Apple Accessibility, but they may end up referring you to iTunes
support, which as far as I know, do not do phone support.
But if you are really nice and explain what a pain it is to deal with chats
they may help you with it, at least to get the answer if you can downgrade to
the other format.

RE: Possible use for Text Recognition in iOS 14

2021-01-29 Thread Richard Turner
Actually, subtitles and captioning are a setting in iOS and has been there for
a long time.
That isn't to say the new text, screen and describe images stuff isn't involved
or possibly overlapping with the prior settings.
If you go to the main Accessibility Settings screen on your iPhone, In there is
the on/off for Audio Descriptions, which is just for enabling or disabling
audio descriptions.
But, then if you go down to the hearing section, the last item before the
General section is Subtitles and Captioning.
Open that setting and you have:
Closed captions Plus SDH off (which can be turned on) and explains When
available, prefer closed captioning or subtitles for the hard of hearing.
Then Style, Transparent Background
Then, show audio transcriptions, which defaults to off and is for show audio
transcriptions for announcements from HomePod.

If that isn't enough, under the VoiceOver settings is an on/off for "Caption
Panel" which if on, for sure reads the captioning so if you are watching the
news over something like the Xfinity Stream app, you will hear VoiceOver
reading what the news person is saying which can be a bit crazy making, unless
you go to yet another place, under Verbosity, there is "Media Descriptions"
which can be set to off, braille, speech, or speech and braille.
It says this is what determines how closed captions Plus SDH are output during
media playback.

You'd think all of this stuff would be in one place.

Subject: Possible use for Text Recognition in iOS 14

Good day. I have an example of how Text Recognition could be used in iOS 14. A
lot of people have been harsh regarding the Image Recognition and other new
recognition features with VoiceOver in iOS 14, and for good reason since some
don't work as well as we may want them to. However, I have a possible use for
the Text Recognition. I've noticed in several Disney Plus shows and movies
recently that Voiceover automatically reads subtitles that show up at the
bottom of the screen during the programs. This has happened on some animal
shows and the movie "Operation Dumbo Drop". I haven't watched any movies yet
that are in other languages, but expect that those English subtitles would also
be read. Sometimes I can hear the person speaking the words in addition to
VoiceOver reading the subtitles, but not always. Often the speaker's voice is
lowered or in the background and is not always easy for this hard of hearing
person (me) to hear, so I appreciate the subtitles. And, for what it's worth,
I'm using iOS 14.4 on an iPhone 11. I don't think the subtitles were read on
prior iOS versions, so can only conclude that this is a plus for iOS 14. And,
it will only get better from here.

Be well,
Wayne Merritt

Doing an encrypted backup of your iPhone to your computer (Mac or PC), and then

Please, does any one know if there is a way how to transfer Whatsapp messages

A Bluetooth Question

2021-01-29 Thread Duane Steele
Hello Listers,

Sometimes when I make a call, I want it to come through my Bose bluetooth
speaker so I can hear it better. But I can't seem to make that happen. If I'm
listening to music and the phone rings, it comes through the speaker loud and
clear as expected. How can I make this happen when making a call. Or, is this
not possible. It's not a big deal. But it surely would be convenient sometimes.

Peace & Blessings,
Pastor Duane L. Steele

Yes, I have WhatsApp set up to daily backup messages etc to iCloud.
When I got a new iPhone I simply installed WhatsApp on my new iPhone
and during set up of WhatsApp I selected to download from iCloud.
I don't think standard Apple iOS iCloud backup backs up whatsapp data.
One have to configure that manually yourself as described above.

Please, does any one know if there is a way how to transfer Whatsapp

Thanks for help in advance.

Can anyone recommend a good weather app?

I have one, just clled Weather, and what I’ve noticed about it
is, it is not accurate.

Right now, it is 65°, according to the weather app, it lists
the temperature as being 25°.
