Hi,

Sonos does have an email announcement thing to which you can subscribe. Since
I've purchased directly from them I believe i saw its option to subscribe
during check out.

I believe it might also be found once you log into your Sonos account at their
site under your profile even if you hadn't purchased from them and have only
set up your Sonos account when you set up speakers.

I got an email touting the new speaker today but had also seem whispers about
its eminent arrival in the tech press via Twitter.

Take good care.

You’re the reason we get to continue innovating, and we’re so excited to share
this next step forward with you. Keep an eye out for a link to the event.

I assume I won't get the link until Monday or maybe even Tuesday morning, but
I'm sure curious and I was really hoping it would finally be a Sonos headset,
but based on what The Verge has discovered a headset seems to be finally in the
works, but this event will be for a smaller more affordable portable speaker
which is meant to compete with speakers like the UE Boom 2 and Bose Soundlink

If by that feature, you are talking about the transparency mode,
according to the folks on the Tech Doctor podcast, you hear things very clearly
and in stereo. So sounds from the left, are on your left, etc.

If you are talking about the live listen mode, I’ve only read about it
but it uses the iPhone microphone so you hear whatever the iPhone hears in
mono. It is intended to be like a pocket talker I think, which is a special
device for the hearing impaired, so you could give your phone to someone at a
table in a noisy room and you would hear them over the room noise.

I wonder if you are being bitten by the VoiceOver Recognition nonsense.
Under VoiceOver settings, see if any of those are on.
You may have to go into the rotor settings and add them to the rotor so you

I have never experienced any of this.
In the phone app, which tab at the bottom is selected? It always returns to
the last one selected.

I assume you have closed everything out of the app switcher.

Now, some web sites are awful and the edit fields do not work correctly, and
that seems to also be an issue with iOS 14.4.
At least, with any braille displays.
Perhaps you could give a sample web site where you have consistent issues with

this has happened twice since iOS 14. the first time I erased the phone and

One review I heard said the bag or cover they come in is very cheaply made.

What do you think of it?

Hi all,

Well, after months of waiting I finally was able to get the Max at my
beloved local Apple Store. Short impressions after 24 hours. Firstly, as is
standard with Apple the design from opening the box to the high end finish of
the material is outstanding. I love the sound. Listening to Apple Music or my
purchased tracks from iTunes was fantastic. Using the digital crown that I’m
familiar with from my Apple Watch is also great. Overall 5 stars. .

Perhaps you could give a sample web site where you have consistent issues
with an edit field?

These instructions are somewhat out of date. There is no longer a menu button
in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. Instead you have to tap on the
more tab in the lower right hand corner of the screen to get to The screen
where you’ll find skills and games. However when you tap on a skill, at least
using voiceover, no disable button appears. So there must be a different way to
delete a skill.

Oh, Joshua, that’s too bad. Kind of defeats the purpose of being in the kitchen
cooking and needing to pause the playing for whatever reason without having
to touchthe phone with messy fingers! Sound coming from the speaker though it’s
definitely superior to that of my phone if it’s not hooked up to my stereo.
My echo just started making a funny noise and I couldn’t figure out what it was
about. Then I remembered I said a timer. It’s a noise I never would’ve
associated with a timer since it’s not any kind of noise I’ve ever heard on my
iPhone. I wonder if I can reset the sound to something else. These are the
questions I have. I looked in Settings a few days ago at the sounds heading and
didn’t see any way to set anything specific. Have I missed something? I guess I
could address this to the other list which I subscribe to by Brad‘s
recommendation. I think I associate these questions with the accessibility
capacity since it’s an app on my phone which is why I continue to ask
questions here. Plus I never got a response to my first post to the other list!
I’ll try again.

Kimberly, yes they didn’t work for me. I didn’t notice the date on that file.
Someone sent it to me. I didn’t do what you had said just rather intuitively or
maybe someone I saw some other instructions elsewhere. I had someone cited to
come in today and she figured out an area where you could in fact enable or
disable something but it was a little tricky to find. Yeah, it was anyway it’s
in our whole general area of skills and not discover but there’s there’s three
tabs on that page your skills discover and a third one I think we got into
where we wanted to to disable and enable things through that third tab.

You could try using the music notification app or feature on an iPhone under

I have a Move and it's a fantastic speaker, but as the article points out,
it's portable to a degree around your home, e.g. from one room to another or to
the deck or backyard, but it's not exactly the size you want to stick into your
backpack to bring along on a picknick, camping and so on.

Hi,

Thought I mention this and maybe generate a bit of excitement among all of the
Sonos fans on this list:

Sonos - Join us for a special event
To show our gratitude for your support over the years, we’d like to invite you
to join us for an exclusive first look at the latest addition to the Sonos
system.

Those airpods max, are way to expensive for my taste. If I were to get an
expensive set of headphones, I'd go with the bose nc700's. I had at one time
the Sony whxm1004 headphones that all kinds of reviews on both amazon and
youtube raved about. I quickly returned them, because of how poorly designed
they were. I couldn't believe how plastic feeling they were. I saw, it
wouldn't take much from me, to accidentally snap one of the headphone earcups
off the headband. I'm sure the apple airpods max are great headphones, I just
couldn't afford them.

RE: Smart cooker app does not work with iOS 14.5

2021-03-07 Thread Deb Cook Lewis
There is a really great and largely accessible video demo of the coocoo cooker
on Yourtube if you search for demo cooker multicooker. Gosh, she could have
done just a little more and it would be totally accessible. She demos the
talking menus, and you can observe that the time and temp do not talk although
she doesn't comment on that. At first she doesn't wait long enough for any
menus to talk, but then she does and it's quite cool. Most of the things she
made could be at the default time, she thought that the vegetables were a
little done to her liking and from her description, I agree. But it sounds
pretty useable.
Apple is having trouble with Bluetooth and some braille products too so you're
darned if you do and darned if you don't on these upgrades.
But I think that all in all if my Instant Pot doesn't work after the next
upgrade, I'm likely to buy this coocoo thing instead rather than give these
people any more of my money.
Although you can press buttons and set the instant pot by hand if you know what
you're doing, it won't tell you when you've come to full pressure etc. I don't
like not having any info about what it's doing.
My sister says she doesn't know about accessibility, but the wIfI instant pot
is wonky in her view.
So just some observations.

I asked about the app that controls the BlueTooth IP in a Facebook group for
blind people who discuss cooking with small electric kitchen appliances. Two
people have responded that the WiFi app is “mostly accessible.” One can
apparently also set pressure level and time with Alexa. I don’t know how
closely one can monitor cooking while using the app with VoiceOver. I am not
eager to buy a new Instant Pot, but i don’t want to forego updating my Iphone

2021-03-07 Thread Penny Reeder
I asked about the app that controls the BlueTooth IP in a Facebook group for
blind people who discuss cooking with small electric kitchen appliances. Two
people have responded that the WiFi app is “mostly accessible.” One can
apparently also set pressure level and time with Alexa. I don’t know how
closely one can monitor cooking while using the app with VoiceOver. I am not
eager to buy a new Instant Pot, but i don’t want to forego updating my Iphone
either. Penny

Re: Apple Sign-in

2021-03-07 Thread Mike B
I don't have Edge or Google Chrome set to remember passwords. But, here's
something weird, or maybe not, this happens on my Windows 7 PC when using
the latest Edge or Chrome but, on my Windows 10 PC everything works just
fine, which I just discovered a little while ago. Thanks for confirming
that I'm using the correct URL for logging into my Apple account.

That is the site to manager your Apple ID when you want to make changes or
check something.

I just tried it with Edge and it didn’t like my password, which I know is
correct.

I then ran Firefox and made sure remember me was not checked.

I entered my user name hit continue, entered my password, and received a
notification on my phone that a login was being attempted, after allowing
that, and entering the 6 digit verification code from the phone, I was in.

Perhaps Edge and Google are remembering the wrong password?

Hi All,

Whenever I go to the apple website to sign into my account I get the message
that sign-in is unavailable and I can only get options for recovering my
account information or creating an Apple ID. Below is the URL I'm using, is
it the correct link?

This happens with Edge or Google. Thanks much.

Re: Smart cooker app does not work with iOS 14.5

2021-03-07 Thread Mary Otten
Hi Donna,
The Bluetooth Instant pot app was perfectly accessible. The problem is that it
no longer will open. As for the other one, the one with Wi-Fi, I don’t own
that, so I have no way of testing it out. But the Bluetooth app is simply gone.
It will not open and it is no longer in the App Store not being supported.

RE: New Echo

2021-03-07 Thread Richard Turner
There are so many variations on Echo devices, that I suspect the Google Home
might be closest to the Echo Show or the full sized Echo, whatever it is called.
Maybe the Google Home Mini could be compared to the standard echo, but if you
are comparing the Google Home to the standard, small Echo, that is like apples
to oranges.

I've not heard either one, but based on my reading, that is what I would
conclude.

I like my google home better then the echo someone gave me. I set all the
bass, mids, and highs, to max settings on both my google home, and my echo, and
my google home sounds better than my echo. I also get more music on my google
home since I can access youtube on my google home, and you can't get access to
youtube on the echo devices any more.

I highly recommend beats solo pro on-ear headphones. It is premium headphones,
has the apple h1 chip so it will have no lag with voiceover, and it almost has
all the other features of apple's headphones. It is usually sold for 299

Re: AirPods Max first impressions

2021-03-07 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
Those airpods max, are way to expensive for my taste. If I were to
get an expensive set of headphones, I'd go with the bose nc700's. I
had at one time the Sony whxm1004 headphones that all kinds of reviews
on both amazon and youtube raved about. I quickly returned them,
because of how poorly designed they were. I couldn't believe how
plastic feeling they were. I saw, it wouldn't take much from me, to
accidentally snap one of the headphone earcups off the headband. I'm
sure the apple airpods max are great headphones, I just couldn't
afford them.

Re: New Echo

2021-03-07 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
I like my google home better then the echo someone gave me. I set all
the bass, mids, and highs, to max settings on both my google home, and
my echo, and my google home sounds better than my echo. I also get
more music on my google home since I can access youtube on my google
home, and you can't get access to youtube on the echo devices any
more.

RE: Smart cooker app does not work with iOS 14.5

2021-03-07 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
It's exactly what companies want, now even large and small appliances are
loaded with technology which makes products which people otherwise had for 10
or 15 years obsolete after a few years or at least many feel they then have to
upgrade in order to get the latest. Of course at the same time the same
companies often then talk about how much they do for the environment and
recycling.

Yeah, it sucks. You can already imagine their answer if we reach out to
complain about this development to them. well, can we recommend the newer WIFI
model that has Alexa support built in? As if everyone else has the habit of
replacing their pressure cooker every 5 or so years and besides, what guaranty
is there that in another 4 or 5 years, what's current and cutting edge today
will be yesterday's news and not worth supporting in their estimation? Once
bitten, twice shy etc. That and what if you don't have or even want Alexa?
Back when this Bluetooth model came out, I figured that the actual IP would
outlast the app by a long shot, so I guess in that respect, it's not terribly
surprising, but it's still frustrating. I am fortunate though. Yesterday, I
busted out my old SE that I stopped using as my second line's phone and just
use it for music streaming and other stuff like that. Turns out I've still got
the IP Bluetooth app on their. I reenabled the connection with my IP and made
sure that automatic iOS updates are disabled so at least for now, I'll be able
to use my IP with an iOS device for the foreseeable future since I don't need
that device to be current on iOS anyway, but I'm sure I'm the exception to this
situation.

I had the blue tooth model and yes it was absolutely awesome. I now have the
newer model and I like the device but the app that runs it is not like the
previous smart cooker app.

It is very difficult to operate. Most of the time I have my sighted family
members to set it to avoid overcooking something.

Maybe we need to reach out to the company and voice our concerns with the new
app and ask that they make it more user friendly for those of us who are blind
or visually impaired.

Johna,
I didn’t mean to devalue your message. It’s just that it sounds like this
device that you got doesn’t actually offer as much Accessibility as what we
just lost. The thing I like the most about the Bluetooth instant pot was that I
could actually control it. I could change the time from the default. I could
tell what was going on. How much time was left etc. So, the one you got sounds
OK, except it smaller than the IP. And you still have to do a cheat sheet. So
I’m kind of bummed by the whole thing.

You have to understand the way these devices work.
The Alexa app on your phone is primarily an interface to adjust settings on
your Echo speaker, add skills and so on. Yes, it is to some extend also
allowing you to use your iPhone like an Alexa speaker, e.g. ask questions or
give commands just as you would to your Echo speaker.
As far as playing books on your Echo speaker which in fact are playing on your
phone like BARD, in this case you basically use yur Echo speaker just like you
would any Bluetooth speaker, e.g. you pair it to your phone and the whatever
you play on your phone plays via your Echo. But because the Echo is a
smartspeaker you can obviously take it one step further, i.e. once a book is
playing you can ask your speaker to pause or resume or skip forward or back, on
a regular Bluetooth speaker you would do these things by pressing the
appropriate button. But I don't think you can pair your Echo to your phone and
then tell it to play a BARD book unless you first start the book in your BARD
app.
Audible is a different matter because Amazon owns Audible hence it's very
seamlessly integrated into Echo speakers and as long as you are signed into
your speaker with the same Amazon account you use for Audible the Alexa
assistant has access to your Audible library.

RE: New Sonos product about to be announced

2021-03-07 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
When I had my US membership I had the Platinum and often bought the 24 credits
all at once which gives you the best per credit price. I have to maybe check
again, but definitely buying them as a 12-credit package was not an option when
Audible Canada first came out and there was also only the Gold plan with 1
credit, no 2-credit a month plan was available.
Amazon Canada also does not offer a family account where I could add my wfie to
my account so she would also get Prime benefits. I was told it was coming at
some point, but that was like a year ago at least.

Does audible Canada give you the option of paying for 12 credits at once? When
I had an Audible account, I did that because it was $149 for 12 credits, which
cut about $2.50 off each credit price.

US prices are not always translated to another country's price exactly by the
current exchange rate. Yes, the Move is $399 in the US, I just checked to make
sure and at Best Buy Canada as well as directly from Sonos it is $499 Canadian.
In this case our Canadian price is actually a bit better than the current
exchange rate which is sitting around $1.27 to $1.29, at $1.27 $399 US is
$506.73 and $1.29 is $514.71.
Another good example where things are in our favour is an Audible subscription,
I am pretty sure the Gold subscription, 1 credit a month, is $14.95 US and it
is the same $14.95 in Canadian currency at Audible Canada. But Audible Canada
is only a bit over 2 years old if I remembe rcorrectly and prior to that
Canadian customers had to get a US Audible subscription and we were billed in
US Dollars which was converted by the credit card company and that was not a
very good deal because credit card companies always charge a premium of at
least 2 or 3% on top of the actual exchange rate and currently I would have
paid around $20 Canadian for a $14.95 US Audible subscription.
Unfortunately this is not always the case and I have seen many examples for
products where the Canadian price is easily 20% or more higher then what it
would be if you convert the US price to Canadian with the current exchange rate.

That's $573 in US currency. The price at Best buy in the states is $400. Both

RE: New Sonos product about to be announced

2021-03-07 Thread Richard Turner

Both
the move and the small new one will have both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi audio.

RE: AirPods Max first impressions

2021-03-07 Thread Richard Turner
If by that feature, you are talking about the transparency mode, according to
the folks on the Tech Doctor podcast, you hear things very clearly and in
stereo. So sounds from the left, are on your left, etc.

If you are talking about the live listen mode, I've only read about it but it
uses the iPhone microphone so you hear whatever the iPhone hears in mono. It
is intended to be like a pocket talker I think, which is a special device for
the hearing impaired, so you could give your phone to someone at a table in a
noisy room and you would hear them over the room noise.

Would you guess about 4 hours of use before they need to be charged? Or maybe
6?
What is very good to one person may not be to another.

Thanks for any more detail you can give me.

RE: repeating voiceover

2021-03-07 Thread Richard Turner
I have never experienced any of this.
In the phone app, which tab at the bottom is selected? It always returns to
the last one selected.

I assume you have closed everything out of the app switcher.

Now, some web sites are awful and the edit fields do not work correctly, and
that seems to also be an issue with iOS 14.4.
At least, with any braille displays.
Perhaps you could give a sample web site where you have consistent issues with
an edit field?

this has happened twice since iOS 14. the first time I erased the phone and
started over. I tried that with iOS14.4 but it didn't work this time.

I have a Move and it's a fantastic speaker, but as the article points out,
it's portable to a degree around your home, e.g. from one room to another or to
the deck or backyard, but it's not exactly the size you want to stick into your
backpack to bring along on a picknick, camping and so on.

2021-03-07 Thread Richard Turner
Deirdre,
On the Alexa app, go to more, Alarms and Timers.
Note that the only place you can set the sound is on the alarms tab, those are
used also for the timers.
There should be a setting button, then a default sound that says link I think.
Double tap on that and you will find a variety of sounds.
There are what it calls Custom sounds, which I think are paid sounds, or at
least some of them are, but you cannot use your own sounds, you can just pick
from the available sounds.

Hi All,

Whenever I go to the apple website to sign into my account I get the message
that sign-in is unavailable and I can only get options for recovering my

the correct link?

This happens with Edge or Google. Thanks much.

That is the site to manager your Apple ID when you want to make changes or
check something.
I just tried it with Edge and it didn't like my password, which I know is
correct.
I then ran Firefox and made sure remember me was not checked.
I entered my user name hit continue, entered my password, and received a
notification on my phone that a login was being attempted, after allowing that,
and entering the 6 digit verification code from the phone, I was in.

Perhaps Edge and Google are remembering the wrong password?

I am talking about the sound coming from my Echo not my phone. The phone sound
is great, I just don't like the one on the Echo. Picky, picky, picky. I guess
that should be my middle name.
I do not have a clock display on the Echo though it certainly can tell time!

Re: removing skills

2021-03-07 Thread deidre muccio
Hello Robert,
I’ve had to select your skills more than once sometimes more than twice before
it will stay selected. Not sure what that’s about. And then it tells me I have
five skills enabled. end it is not obvious what those five skills are. And some
of the language isn’t clear either. it suggest things and then it asked me if I
want to see more options or open and I’m not sure what the difference is
between those two things. If it’s open then I’m assuming maybe that’s one of
the enabled skills that came with the echo automatically. when I ask Alexa
then I get a list of five things that sound like categories but I don’t know
what’s within them, things such as sounds games, music, quiz, trivia. That will
be my next stepping off point, to see what I can do within each category and
which of them is of interest to me.

There are subjects on things I don’twanna see suggested but I don’t know how to
state other preferences. sometime in the last few days I probably did select a
few things that might’ve been of interest to me, that is if I’m remembering it
correctly, but it was a very shoddy list didn’t really include much nuance. Or
it didn’t include many subcategories. maybe it’s audible I’m thinking of.
I’m not sure if there’s a guide to the echo instead of all these piecemeal bits
of things I received via email I get from Amazon about exploring new features.
Or from Podcasts or from various different sources. It be nice to have a
systematic manual type pamphlet. Actually there’s something that came with the
echo maybe I should have someone look at it or scan it and see if that’s what
it contains.
Good luck in figuring it out. I did have a document that was step by step
instructions on how to uninstall skills but like foryou, it was quirky and
actually where it said to go to do what I needed to do was not a way to get
atit. I had to do it a different way.

As for Bard books, I do play them on my Alexa through my phone but I have found
that when I say pause or stop it doesn't work. I still have to manually stop

But I guess I’ll turn it on if I wanna do something like have it read me a Bard

Apple Sign-in

2021-03-07 Thread Mike B
Hi All,

Whenever I go to the apple website to sign into my account I get the message
that sign-in is unavailable and I can only get options for recovering my
account information or creating an Apple ID. Below is the URL I'm using, is
it the correct link?

https://appleid.apple.com

This happens with Edge or Google. Thanks much.

Stay safe and take care. Mike.

As a happy owner of the airpod max, here are why I use them all the time:

  1-They are extremely comfortable
2-The transparency mode really feels like getting into a space capsule and
back out
3-I can connect the lightning to jack cable to do work uninterrupted with no
lag from the bluetooth
4-The sound quality is simply top notch.
5-I would expect new updates to give us some crazy features as things go along
6-Can't neglect the design. it's just beautiful.

  Cheers,

  Yuma

Robert,

After listening to your podcast about these headphones, I have a question.

I read that if you use the Live Listen mode, the audio you are listening to
goes to mono.

Does that also happen with the transparency mode?

Thanks,

Richard

  Hi all,

Well, after months of waiting I finally was able to get the Max at my beloved
local Apple Store. Short impressions after 24 hours. Firstly, as is standard
with Apple the design from opening the box to the high end finish of the
material is outstanding. I love the sound. Listening to Apple Music or my
purchased tracks from iTunes was fantastic. Using the digital crown that I’m
familiar with from my Apple Watch is also great. Overall 5 stars. .

  Respectfully,

  Sadam
