Re: you mail

2021-08-10 Thread Shai
Hello,
Is there a means with VoiceOver to see what the phone number and email
is that one has entered during sign up? I am trying to enter my phone
number but when I go to the text field to see if any numbers have been
entered, VoiceOver does not announce anything in this field and even
deleting the information does not announce as information is erased to
re-enter.

Re: What is screen recognition

2021-08-10 Thread Ann Byrne
The odd thing is that some apps with screen
recognition turned on don't display at
all. Before the last couple of updates the app
that talks to our scale would read buttons--BMI,
for example, and the associated values (which I
will spare you). Since the last couple of
updates, screen recognition makes the screen go
blank, and all I can read is the status line.

Re: What is screen recognition

2021-08-10 Thread Anna Dresner
Hi,

If you are playing around with screen recognition, I recommend adding it to the
rotor. Then when you're in an app that isn't completely accessible, you can
easily turn it on and see if it helps, and easily turn it off again if it
doesn't. Also, if it gets inadvertently turned on in an app, you can turn it
off from within that app.

Best,
Anna

Spectrum TV has several apps. Not sure why. But an ap that was

Voiceover says to double tap. When I do that, I can't type in my

recognition on, as the elements are either not accessible to Voiceover, or
aren't labeled. Voiceover uses AI to try to make those parts that app
developers haven't labeled more accessible. You don't need to turn it on
for an app unless you are experiencing difficulty with a particular app's
accessibility. At that point, it is worth experimenting to see if screen
recognition helps you. You can add it to the rotor to make this easier.

Thanks.

Removing an Echo Dot, from within the Alexa App

2021-08-10 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I need to remove one of my Echo Dots. I don't want to de-register it. I
just need to remove it from my device list. We aren't using it any longer.

I googled instructions on how to do this. I am supposed to be able to
use the Alexa App, go into settings, all devices, and then go to the
device I want to remove. There is supposed to be a delete button. Well
it states, trash can.

However, I can't find a way to remove this Dot.

Has anyone tried this before?

If so, what kind of luck did you have?

I think maybe this button isn't accessible, or just doesn't even show up.

Can anyone possibly offer any help?

Thank you,

Terri

What is screen recognition

2021-08-10 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I noticed a while back, that under my settings, and voiceover, that
there is a setting for screen recognition.

What exactly is this?

How does it work?

And how can it come in handy?

I turned it on, and I chose a few Apps for it to work with. But that's
as far as I got. I realized I didn't really know how it could help.

Anything anyone can share would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Re: iPhone/Hearing Aid questions

2021-08-10 Thread Duane Steele
Hi Paul and others, I'm not sure the Thrive APP is necessary for my hearing
device. But I do have some questions about the device’s relationship with the
iPhone. What, for instance, does stream boost mean when I see it under settings
for the device, and in the control center. Oh, and by the way, it's great to be
able to tell how much battery life remains. With the Phonak device and
accompaning ComPilot with which it connected to the phone, this wasn't an
option. As for the APP my audiologist downloaded, I don't see much real use for
it. I think I'll love the hearing aid, however. Thanks for the input.

Hi Duane. I also have the starke hearing aids and love them. I'm not familiar

Hello Listers,

Yesterday, I took delivery of a new hearing aid by Starkey that connects
directly to my iPhone. The audiologist had me download an App called Thrive,
which I'd like to set up to suit my own needs. I’d like, for example, to be
able to know how much battery life is left 9 ! device before charging. Does
anyone else use this APP, or a similar one, and, is it really all that helpful
or necessa=y. Thanks for any help or advice. I love the new hearing aid, and
phone calls are clearer.

While I’m asking hearing questions, is it more preferable when I want to use an
over-the-ear headset like a Bose to remove the hearing aid, or, does it really
matter?

RE: you mail help

2021-08-10 Thread Casey Wollner
Hi I got mine to work what I did was tap on the edit box that asks for your
phone number.
So I put that in with area code first and then went and pout in my password and
then put in my e-mail address.
Then once I had all of that entered in.
I hit done and then tapped on next and then it worked.
Yes when putting in my phone number I did get the bonk sound while I was typing
but it didn't matter.

Well, guys, I tried it again and no success. I get a message after double
tapping next that I need to enter a 10 digit phone number which is what I did.
So clearly, it’s not entering any text in the text field even though I’m typing
and no I do not have any external stuff connected via Bluetooth.

Re: iPhone/Hearing Aid questions

2021-08-10 Thread Duane Steele
Thanks for the response. Good advice. Oh, and I did find out how to check the
hearing aid's battery status. It's in two places, under the device name in
settings, and under hearing devices in the control center. So far, I like the
sound of phone calls, and I suspect it's a matter of preference for each
person. Which for the issue of wearing over-the-ear headphones from time to
time, I'll take the hearing aid out during such usage and place it in its
charger because for the Starkey device I have, it's the only way to turn it
completely off.

By the way, let me take this opportunity to say how much I appreciate what I
learn from following threads on the iPhone list. This is a great group of
iPhone supporters.

Peace & Blessings,

I'd try calling apple accessibility. Also, try an app called you mail
which is a lot better then the phone's regular voice mail.

if I select the voicemail tab, the screen all but stops responding, and

home

phone app, when the same thing happens before the phone app stops working

phone app crashed or something.
they are both iPhone x, and have tried this at least 3 times on each
phone,
always with the same result.

Open Settings, Phone.
You will find, Allow phone to access

Then, Incoming Calls, if it says banner, double tap with one finger, and flick
right to Full Screen and double tap.
You will now have the phone app using the full screen instead of just a small

I'd try calling apple accessibility. Also, try an app called you mail
which is a lot better then the phone's regular voice mail.

if I select the voicemail tab, the screen all but stops responding, and

home

phone app, when the same thing happens before the phone app stops working
and the phone goes back to the home screen, so can only assume that the
phone app crashed or something.
they are both iPhone x, and have tried this at least 3 times on each
phone,
always with the same result.

RE: you mail help

2021-08-10 Thread Richard Turner
Just for the heck of it and also for trouble shooting. Connect one of your
external keyboards and if it is a braille device, press space+q on that edit
field and see if Quck nav is turned on or off.

Rarely, but I’ve seen it happen, the device got stuck with Quick Nav on and
there is no actual way to turn it off without an external device; though it is
supposed to toggle off once you get the field into editing mode….

It’s a long shot, but what the heck.

I tap on the edit nbox and start typing it in and I just get bonk bonk when

RE: iPhone/Hearing Aid questions

2021-08-10 Thread don.moore48 via VIPhone
Wow! Where to start? I am totally disalusioned by the blue tooth connection
between the hearing aids and the phone. Under some limited circumstances it's
a good thing regardless. for most times though I wind up having my hearing
aids disconnected from the phone and use my earpods with the hearing aids.
People hear me better and the phone acts less querky.

As long as your earphones play nicely with your hearing aids, and that you
don't lose something in the process, whatever's comfortable. I bought the
airpods, but stopped using them because I'd manage to get one or another of
them to drop out of my ear, and, if I was lucky enough, to get a sightie to
help me find the missing one. It just wasn't worth the effort!

Subject: iPhone/Hearing Aid questions

Hello Listers,

Yesterday, I took delivery of a new hearing aid by Starkey that connects
directly to my iPhone. The audiologist had me download an App called Thrive,
which I'd like to set up to suit my own needs. I’d like, for example, to be
able to know how much battery life is left 9 ! device before charging. Does
anyone else use this APP, or a similar one, and, is it really all that helpful
or necessa=y. Thanks for any help or advice. I love the new hearing aid, and
phone calls are clearer.

While I’m asking hearing questions, is it more preferable when I want to use an
over-the-ear headset like a Bose to remove the hearing aid, or, does it really
matter?

Peace & Blessings,
Pastor Duane L. Steele

RE: voicemail not working since latest IOS update?

2021-08-10 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
No issues here. I have just my provider's simple voice mail which is included
for free and which is traditional voice mail not visual voice mail, but then
again I usually answer my phone and probably only get 1 or 2 voice mails a
month for the odd time when I can't answer or somebody calls in the middle of
the night when my phone is on do not disturb.

hello all,
is anyone else having trouble with the phone's voicemail tab since the latest
IOS update?
as I am, on both of my iPhones.
if I select the voicemail tab, the screen all but stops responding, and all I
can get to speak are the top of screen status bar items. if I do the home
gesture, that works, and things start working, until I go back in to the phone
app, when the same thing happens before the phone app stops working and the
phone goes back to the home screen, so can only assume that the phone app
crashed or something.
they are both iPhone x, and have tried this at least 3 times on each phone,
always with the same result.

RE: you mail help

2021-08-10 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
That happens in some apps, but it probably is still entering your number, just
enter it and tap OK or Next or whatever they have. I have WhatsApp set up to
use 2-factor authentication and from time to time I am asked to enter a code I
set up and it behaves the same way, I just hear the donk sound, but still after
I finish entering my 6-digit code everything works.

Hi I am trying to set up you mail and when it wants you to add in your phone
number.
I tap on the edit nbox and start typing it in and I just get bonk bonk when
typing it in like it is moving forward when putting in the phone number so what
am I doing incorrect with this?

which is a lot better then the phone's regular voice mail.

RE: Iphone keypad and phone calls?RE: query

2021-08-10 Thread Richard Turner
Open Settings, Phone.
You will find, Allow phone to access
Siri and Search
Notifications ...
Then, Incoming Calls, if it says banner, double tap with one finger, and flick
right to Full Screen and double tap.
You will now have the phone app using the full screen instead of just a small
banner.

I think if you set your screen to full screen, the key pad is more likely to
continue to show.

Re: BGR: In iOS 15, Siri is losing some of its most useful voice commands

2021-08-10 Thread Ed Worrell
A lot of those apps already have short cuts that can be set up. I’m not sure
what the big deal actually is. Apple removes APIs all the time to clean up the
operating systems.

Thanks for all the responses. I have taken the advice offered and now all is
good. I reckon it's part of the bank's new log-in screen that's supposed to be
so much more improved. I was scared when I didn't find anything happening on my
braille device. It's all good. I appreciate the help and clearing up my fear.

Re: Bank of America APP inaccessible in latest update

2021-08-10 Thread 'Danny' via VIPhone
Hi,
I suggest that everyone report this problem to Bank of America. They are
usually quite quick at correcting accessibility problems. But they need to know
the problem exists.
Thanks,

Danny

Hello, I just logged in to the app. When entering your password you
do not recieve the normal click sounds with other password fields but

Have folks checked to see what the playback destination is once they open a

For those who wish to continue to use the regular phone app, the reason it
appears to stop working when attempting to play a voice mail is that Apple is
guarding your privacy and preventing others from hearing your voice mail. It
plays as usual over headphones. Sometimes this guarding my privacy thing
happens to me, sometimes not, with no apparent reason why it happens or not. I
don't worry much about it, I know how to solve the problem. If somebody knows
how to turn it off permanently, let us know.

The Bank Of America app is doing that for logging in but the information is

Try just entering your phone number, ignoring the sounds and seemingly lack of

Hi I am trying to set up you mail and when it wants you to add in your phone
number.
I tap on the edit nbox and start typing it in and I just get bonk bonk when
typing it in like it is moving forward when putting in the phone number so what
am I doing incorrect with this?

Hi,
Well, even though it isn't showing the letters typed and is making that awful
bonk sound, the keyboard is working.
I just logged in and it worked.

Just ignore what you are hearing and enter your password, then you will find
that the log in button is active.

Today, I allowed the Bank of America APP to update, and now I can't log in.
When I go to my password, it says "actions available" and when I double-tap as
before, I get nowhere. Is there a gesture I should try to activate what used to
be an edit field that will bring my password back into focus? The new update
has suddenly put me in an awful jam! Thanks for any help.

Re: voicemail not working since latest IOS update?

2021-08-10 Thread Arnold Schmidt
For those who wish to continue to use the regular phone app, the reason it
appears to stop working when attempting to play a voice mail is that Apple is
guarding your privacy and preventing others from hearing your voice mail. It
plays as usual over headphones. Sometimes this guarding my privacy thing
happens to me, sometimes not, with no apparent reason why it happens or not. I
don't worry much about it, I know how to solve the problem. If somebody knows
how to turn it off permanently, let us know.

Its much easier to play your messages. You get nicer alerts that you
have received a message. It also has a transcript of your message.
It also blocks spam. I highly recommend it.

Get me smart, why is this app better then the regular voicemail?

I have never paid for the full version of you mail. You mail disables
your voice mail on your phone itself. It is a pretty straight forward
process. Just let your phone ring when it is trying to set up the
app. I had that issue. The app will even clearly say, it will be
ringing your phone to check the voice mail. I really like the app.

iPhone/Hearing Aid questions

2021-08-10 Thread Duane Steele

Steele

I found using braille screen input rather easy to master.

No, I turned off my braille display, and also made sure my Orbit Writer was
also off. Right now I'm using braille screen input with success here in this
email. Perhaps a reboot will help. I have the iPhone 8 Plus with iOS 14.7.1.

Re: you mail

2021-08-10 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
I have never paid for the full version of you mail. You mail disables
your voice mail on your phone itself. It is a pretty straight forward
process. Just let your phone ring when it is trying to set up the
app. I had that issue. The app will even clearly say, it will be
ringing your phone to check the voice mail. I really like the app.

I'd try calling apple accessibility. Also, try an app called you mail

voicemail not working since latest IOS update?

2021-08-10 Thread goshawk on horseback
hello all,
is anyone else having trouble with the phone's voicemail tab since the latest
IOS update?
as I am, on both of my iPhones.
if I select the voicemail tab, the screen all but stops responding, and all I
can get to speak are the top of screen status bar items. if I do the home
gesture, that works, and things start working, until I go back in to the phone
app, when the same thing happens before the phone app stops working and the
phone goes back to the home screen, so can only assume that the phone app
crashed or something.
they are both iPhone x, and have tried this at least 3 times on each phone,
always with the same result.
