I believe some phone carriers are subsidizing the purchase of code factory products to work with their phone. We pay only a fraction of what an iPhone is worth when we buy them in America from phone companies. Perhaps the new phone will be paid for in part by the cell providers as well.

I have been using twitterific for over a year now. It costs a couple bucks, but the developer listens to VoiceOver users and makes accessibility fixes when needed. Though I haven't used it, twitterific also has a mac version, so if you are considering getting a mac, it might be worth noting.
