Re: Number of email messages
Ah, OK, for future reference, you're probably using IMAP, which is now the default for GMail. I'm not sure it figures into your problem, but the read/unread status is kept in the cloud when you're using IMAP, so if you read a message on one device, it'll show up as read on all of your devices. Like I said, I'm not sure that's what's going on here. Glad you got it resolved though! BTW, I just use the Unread mail box, and I don't pay attention to the unread count on the Mail app's icon. I'm pretty sure it's been accurate on my phone though. On 09/30/2015 08:53 AM, deidre muccio wrote: Hello Chris There was nothing in the unread box. However after I went through all that the notification that I had 2 unread messages, which has been there for a week or so, was gone. The count is now once more accurate. As to your question: Is this using the POP, IMAPp or Exchange protocol, I have no clue. I have one gmail account set up on the i phone and it says nothing about any of that in there. Verizon is my carrier. I have an i phone 6 and, I don't know if this matters, but I did not update to IOS 9. Likely something was hiding and for some reason not reading that it was unread. Re: Number of email messages
This is going to sound like a stupid question, but do you have multiple email accounts on your iPhone? I do, and inevitably, I always forget to check one or another of them, so I'm being notified that I have unread mail, and I do, but I think I don't, because I've forgotten to check one of my four mailboxes. Of course, this could just be an iOS 9 but in particular, and I'm barking up the wrong tree. I'd hold fire on that until we establish that it really is reporting that. After all, it will say that, then download a bunch when you activate it. I have a 4S, and I don't have the issue described below. I doubt it's specific to a phone model. Re: Number of email messages
Hi Richard, no. I have not noticed what you were talking about. What I have noticed, and can't decide why this is happening, is that the mail app often reports and in proper number of messages. Generally it says the right number. But when I've been in there, dealing with email, and then it tells me I have X number of messages, and that is more than I actually have that are unread,… but I haven't figured out a pattern. My working theory is that the messages are slower to download an iOS nine for some reason. So I get into subjects and start deleting in the list of subjects, and then I've even seen messages appear that I thought I had deleted. That didn't happen with iOS 8. That's my theory anyway. Re: Number of email messages
Well, my 5S on the home screen says: hisMail No unread e-mails" no matter how many unread emails I have once I open the app, no matter if I have open the app, downloaded my email and then closed the app without reading them, etc. But, once I open it and touch where it says updated, that often says how many unread emails I have. Very strange. Re: Number of email messages
Hi Les, what sort of backup did you use to restore your new phone? Or did you set it up as a new device? I used an encrypted iTunes backup. That meant that once I turned my phone on and got all the set up right, on my mail showed up. I didn't have to enter any passwords or any good stuff like that. Thank God for iTunes backup. Now if only my phone number would transfer over from Verizon to T-Mobile, I would be a happy camper.
