Along the same line, I imported a collection of mp3's into itunes. How do I find out which ones didn't import? The reason I know some of them didn't get added to the itunes library. MP3s should be accepted with no problem, so I'm curious: what is happening? I would not recommend converting your MP3s into another format until all other troubleshooting steps are exhausted. Since it's a lossy format, converting to another lossy format would further degrade the quality of your media. Converting to a lossless format, such as WAVE or Apple Lossless, would take up a lot of extra space with no quality gain. So what is happening when you try to import the problematic files? When I put them in the automatically add to iTunes folder, the ones it don't want, goes into the not added folder. When I import them, it just skips them. Hi, M4a. After all, thats Apples format. haha. I honestly find it to be better than mp3. Better sound quality at comprable bit rates when compared to mp3. This is pretty subjective of course. But, I've converted my entire library to M4a. I ended up saving about 4GB in space by doing so. The trouble is, Clifton already has MP3 files that he wishes to add. If he tries to convert them to .m4a format (another lossy format), the quality will degrade. Because MP3 is already a lossy format. In order to compress the songs, the quality is degraded a bit (i.e. some higher frequency sounds are taken out). It isn't always something that the human ear can pick up on, but if you convert to another lossy format (i.e. .m4a) more compression would be applied and the quality will be further degraded. Hey Kliphton, sorry about the spelling - that was a sloppy mistake on my part. If you have the originals in .wav format I'd go with those--iTunes will help you convert them to a format of your choice. As Ricardo said, a 128 KBPS AAC file, say, will sound a lot better than a 128 KBPS MP3 file. I honestly have no idea what's going on with your MP3 files not being accepted, but as I say it could be anything--iTunes doesn't always let you know what the problem is. I've only had this problem with ogg files that I forget are there. I did have a plugin that allowed for ogg formatted files to play in iTunes, but that was on my old machine. I haven't gotten around to installing it on to my curret one though. That aside though, Can't say I've had problems with mp3's getting imported. I've never used the automatically add to iTunes folder. When I had my Windows PC, and even now on my Mac, I have iTunes find the files in the folders where they are located. Thus far, It has found all the files. Several files are marked unknown, so I need to play them and then correct the labels.
