does the BARD app still appear to be taking up only 5.5 MB of iPhone storage
with two downloaded books? Where do these books live on the device?

I think it must download, because you can play bard books when you do not have
any kind of connection. If it was streaming from somewhere, that shouldn’t be
possible.

there may be a sort of temporary cloud storage that you stream from.
