If you do not have iMessages set to save your voice messages that it’s going to
expire after two minutes what I would do is the following.

Go to settings go to where messages is located scroll down until you get to
audio messages there should be an option to never expire you wanna double tap
that one and then you’ll be able to see voice messages for much longer. If this
does not help write in again and someone will hopefully be able to help you out
there.

Re: iMessages question

2020-02-20 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,
I just wanted to reply once again to
that which Richard pointed out.  So often we think we shouldn't
report something to Apple because what if it's only happening to
us or conversely what if others have reported it already then we
maybe shouldn't or don't have to do so. I just reported this
issue to Apple and it was easily replicated by the agent on his
device and when he checked the system it was a known issue Apple
was investigating but he added my case to the ticket so as to
give the issue more weight. So if anyone else can replicate this
issue please join me in reporting it to Apple so this
functionality we formerly had can hopefully be restored.
Thanks.

Hi,
Glad it wasn't just me one sometimes
wonders about these things.  I will contact them indeed as it is
kind of annoying to me for while I usually add the person I want
I don't always know their phone number by heart so then doubt my
choice.
Thanks so much for replying.

Re: iMessages while using a braille display.

2018-09-20 Thread Sadam Ahmed

I believe you may have the bi-14 Brailliant display  from Humanware.

If this is the case, Kitty is quite correct, you can try downloading the
Brailliant Sync from the App Store.

Although, from reading your question, I'd agree with Richard, it would
be worth contacting Apple and letting them know as it sounds like
something they would need to look at in terms of an  iOS feature request
instead of the display's vendor.

Hi all,

I'm a reasonably new-comer to this technokogy, and I'm curious as to
whether or not anyone else finds the "Contact is typing" or that
they've stopped typing messages which disrupt the entire writing
process messages to be as annoying as I do. Or, is there a way to
make one's display less...verbose? How do the rest of you who are
display users find the state of braille on iOS generally? Like I
said, I'm a new display user, so am perfectly willing to admit the
issue is something I'm not doing correctly, so I'm reaching out in
hopes that isn't some half-baked bug...

thanks in advance everyone, for any light you're able to shed on this.

RE: iMessages while using a braille display.

2018-09-20 Thread Richard Turner
That message is spoken, and for deaf/blind folks using a braille display they
get what hearing/blind get. Yes, it is annoying whether using a braille
display or not, but I've not found a way to turn it off.
This might be a good thing to request from Apple, to make that an optional
setting.

Hi all,

I'm a reasonably new-comer to this technokogy, and I'm curious as to whether
or not anyone else finds the "Contact is typing" or that they've stopped
typing messages which disrupt the entire writing process messages to be as
annoying as I do. Or, is there a way to make one's display less...verbose?
How do the rest of you who are display users find the state of braille on
iOS generally? Like I said, I'm a new display user, so am perfectly willing
to admit the issue is something I'm not doing correctly, so I'm reaching out
in hopes that isn't some half-baked bug...

thanks in advance everyone, for any light you're able to shed on this.

RE: iMessages

2017-01-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Donna,

Joseph basically gave you the correct information, just to add a bit to it the
exact label you are looking for when you are editing a contact is "Text Tone"
and it is one swipe to the right past "Ringtone". This is, however, not at the
bottom but sort of in the middle. If you swipe it's past the phone numbers and
before where you can enter a person's or company's URL/website.
Initially it will say "Text tone, default", once you double tap on it you are
in the area where you can pick from any available text tones including any
custom tones you may have added.

Hi Donna, yes you're clearly overlooking it. First of all, you have to find the
edit button within the context, then after finding the edit button you need to
find this place where it says text tone or ring tone. These can be found at the
very bottom of each contact. Didn't want to tap on that, you'll be brought into
your tones. Then she was the one that you want and then simply hit the done
button. I hope this helps.

husband & other contacts. I have looked in the phone app, the contacts app &
settings. Am I overlooking the setting to do this? Or was this only possible in
past versions of IOS? I have an iPhone 7 with IOS 10.2.

RE: iMessages on iOS 10

2016-09-16 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Gordan,

If a message is an iMessage the "Send" button was a "Record" button even in iOS
9 and I think in iOS 8 as well, basically whenever Apple introduced the ability
to send voice messages in iMessage it was like that.
As somebody else pointed out, as soon as you type the first character the
button turns into "Send".
It was also pointed out that visually the send button is different now and it
is smaller which I have noticed since it's a bit less easy to find when you try
to find it by touch/moving your finger around.

Sieghard

Hi!

I'll start a new one on this topic because it is already spread in the several
different threads and it is really hard to follow.

I've solved some of my own issues beeing able to access the effects menu by
using 3D Touch on Send buton. According to Sieghard I should be able to access
it with double tap and hold but somehow it is not working for me. I see screen
is changing when I perform DTH but it is not the same as forcing the Send
button.

The other thing bugging me is I don't see Send button if I don't enter some
text in the field. There is only Record Audio button available right to the
edit box and Send button appears only after I type or dictate some text. Is it
the way it should be now or is it a bug?

I've listened to some podcasts about iMessages but I didn't get any smarter.
Conclusion is, for now the new iMessages interface is working but it is still
kinda hit and miss and Apple should give it some extra time to make it more
usable and consistent for Voice Over users.

Re: IMessages and my number can't seem to activate

2015-12-08 Thread 'RobH.' via VIPhone
Have you checked in your sms text messages for the configuration text holding
the internet settings off your provider?

It might be an mms attachment, but you do have to run or activate it for it to
setup, and subsequently work.
You quite often get two messages, one in plain text explaining the other.

  HI guys
I'm having I don't know if it's a problem, thus hope you guys could
maybe help me out: Since I put in my SimCard onto my 4S from my Motorola
Moto G 2nd Generation, a message pops up occasionally warning me that
the Messages required to activate Facetime and IMessage maybe have a
cost, for which I double-tap the OK button, thus Facetime and IMessage
is on both, my number and EMail as before. However again days later, the
same warning message pops up, and you have me again going to see if
IMessages and Facetime are active with my number, and the message of
awaiting activation is shown next to where it says IMessage active. When
I try and activate IMessage and Facetime by deactivating and
reactivating, a message pops up that an error occured when trying to
activate, thus there you have me leaving things alone, thus as long as
IMessage and Facetime is on with my EMail, I figure things work as they
should? Any ideas of to whose responsability is to activate Facetime and
IMessage, me or my carrier? because when I had my 3GS, I never
encountered this pop up! because if its my carrier, maybe I should give
them a call and tell them I changed from Android to IPhone, or what
would you guys suggest, or just leave things alone and continue using
Facetime and IMessage with my EMail and forget trying to get my number
activated for these services? I mentioned calling my carrier, but when I
renewed my plan in April, I asked if someday I changed to an IPhone if I
could have problems, and they said no, thus it's weird! Thanks for info.
Maybe I'm worrying of things I shouldn't but I guess it never hurts to
ask, if you guys have had annoyances like these?

Re: IMessages and my number can't seem to activate

2015-12-08 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Hi Gerardo, to activate I message and face time so that it's associated with
your phone number, your iPhone sends a text message to a number controlled by
Apple. When Apple received the text message, it sends a reply text message. You
don't actually see this message as a user, but the message contains an
authentication token, which then causes I message and face time to work with
your telephone number. Apple does it this way to be sure that you really do own
the telephone number in question.

A couple of things could be happening. First, I would go into settings, phone,
and ensure that your telephone number there is correct. Assuming that it is
correct, I would contact your carrier and explain what's happening. Either the
text message isn't being received by Apple, or Apple's reply to you isn't being
received. Either way, your carrier may be able to help. Best of luck.

iMessages as instant messaging, so they are part of your data plan and

I'll consider what you recommended about upgrading to IOS9.:)

2015-11-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hello Tatiana,

Welcome, I think you are probably the only person from Greece on the list.
Yes, iMessages definitely will use cellular data if WiFi is not available.
If I may ask, why is WiFi disabled on your 4S? Is it not working any more?

Thank you so much for clarifying, Sieghard! Are you 100% sure one can use also
one's cellular data in order to send iMessages? Cause I thought what Marie has
said to be the only way for exchanging such messages. If so, many thanks again!
See, I can only use my c.d. for iMessages, since WiFi has been disabled on my

By the way, I must take the opportunity to thank moderator(s) for creating this

I think of text messages as SMS text messages, so they would count against the
text message limit of your cellular plan. I think of iMessages as instant
messaging, so they are part of your data plan and not your text messaging plan.
In that way, they are similar to email.

RE: iMessages

2015-11-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If it is truely a hardware failure as in the WiFi modem in the phone has
failed, going to an Apple Store won't really help since all they would do is
offer a replacement at whatever cost they charge in Greece. The 4S came out in
2011 so if it was then it would be not covered under warranty even if Apple
Care was purchased as of 2 years ago.
Tatiana, have you tried to completely reinstall iOS and to set up as a new
phone? If you haven't and if you have a way to use a computer with iTunes I
wold suggest you upgrade to iOS 9.1 if you haven't done so yet or restore the
phone back to iOS 9.1 and factory defaults. I have heard of other 4S users
whose WiFi/Bluetooth has failed, but if you haven't done so yet it is one thing
you could try.

Sieghard

Re: iMessages

2015-11-11 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I think of text messages as SMS text messages, so they would count
against the text message limit of your cellular plan. I think of
iMessages as instant messaging, so they are part of your data plan and
not your text messaging plan. In that way, they are similar to email.

Hi, are iMessages considered paid text messages, or are they
considered data
exchanges between iDevices? I hope that makes sense. I'm just curious to
know if iMessages would be billed by a carrier.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the responses. I do not have data but am not talking about text
messages talking about receiving iMessages from others on an iPhone as I
thought I would still receive them on my old 4S when connected to wifi and I
did check the settings to make sure my iCloud account is verified so not sure
why I am not getting the iMessages on the old phone actually looked and have
not received one message since I got my 5S and would like to as I am now using
my 4S more and more. Any idea how to do this as they should be coming through.
Thanks.

Re: iMessages VS text messages again

2012-08-17 Thread Christopher Chaltain
You use the same app on your iPhone to read and send both iMsg's and
text messages. They basically appear the same, but I think they are
labelled differently, so you know when you're reading a text message
versus an iMsg.

I think this is configurable, but when sending a message, the iPhone
will send an iMsg when it can, such as to another iPhone, and otherwise
it'll send a text message. So if you're sending a message to someone who
has a cell phone that is not an iPhone, you will be sending a text
message and that's what the person will receive.

Yes, that is my understanding. iMsg's require a data plan or wifi and
sms's just require a cell phone and are covered under a text messaging
 plan.

store and had them help him turn off the data usage altogether.
Therefore, he couldn't get my iMessages until he got back home and was
 using his WiFi connection.

Second, then, am I thinking correctly that iMessages need the
 internet,
meaning either WiFi or a data plan? While, on the other hand, text
messages are something completely separate, and do not require a data
plan, but have their own separate plan or are charged by the message
 if
 no plan exists?

Re: iMessages VS text messages again

2012-08-17 Thread Dan
Hello,
iMessages are sent over either your WI-FI or your cell carrier, they are
between iOS devices and OS X Mountain Lion. They do not go through normal
texting channels, only through your Apple account and that of other Apple
account holders using iOS devices and Mountain Lion.

Re: iMessages Deletion

2012-08-11 Thread Chris (gmail)
Well, I can't answer this one, but in any case, thanks for letting us
know. You would think iMessage would use iCloud to transfer and manage
messages across all Apple products, but this appears to not be the case.
I have no proof myself since I only have an iPhone 4.

Hi All,

Using iMessages now on my iPad, iPhone and all three Mac's, hitting an issue
though that is quickly going to drive me insane.

If I start an iMessage conversation on my iPhone, it beautifully appears on all
my other machines and devices, lovely, well done Apple, this is great.

But, what is dam annoying is when I delete a thread it only is deleted from
that device or machine, I manually, or so it seems, have to remove each
conversation thread from each device and machine.

Surely Apple would have the brains to make this process work both ways, a
message sent to an Apple ID appears on all platforms associated, yet, likewise,
when removed / deleted would do the same.

This is quickly going to drive me mad, we got back from our vacation today, I
had left my MacMini and iMac off during the away time, when I turned them both
back on, and logged in, even though 90% of the content had already been replied
to and deleted, several hundred iMessages proceeded to download to both.

very, very annoying.

any thoughts out there.

thanks.

On the other hand, though, my brother tells me that he doesn't get the
iMessages I send around seven in the morning when he is away from home, until
he gets back home after five in the afternoon. But, when I turned off the
iMessage feature and just sent him a text message today, he got it right
away, around the seven in the morning. Oh, I can normally receive his
iMessages just after they are sent.
