We are all sad from the news of Betty Lynn's passing. I was very fortunate to
get to spend time with her over the years and am grateful to so many people in
Mount Airy who took care of Betty while she lived there. Here are some of my
good memories of Betty...
I first met Betty on a cold day in
I got the sweetest hug from Betty Lynn’s first year at Mayberry Days. I was in
the Emporium and spotted her walking towards me. I smiled and stepped over to
let her pass by. She said “You have the cutest dimples.” And she reached her
arms out for a hug. I’ll never forget that brief moment.
Betty Lynn will certainly be missed. I got to meet her in 2003 at Mayberry
in the Midwest 2. She was so nice.

Later, I received an autographed photo from her. She was such a wonderful
addition to the Mayberry family, the likes of which we shall never see

Betty Lynn's will be celebrating her 95th birthday on Saturday, August 28th
with a luncheon at Cross Creek County Club in Mount Airy. If you would like to
join the celebration, tickets and details are on the Surry Arts Council's

The Andy Griffith Museum will host a SURPRISE birthday party for Betty Lynn
during her monthly visit on Friday, August 19th. She will be there from 12:30pm
- 3:30pm. Admission price is only $3. Betty will have autographed photos

Another Betty Lynn story.
My story is from Mayberry Days 2003. Betty Lynn and Maggie Peterson Mancuso
were both honorary bridesmaids in my husband’s and my wedding that was part
of Mayberry Days. Betty Lynn gave us both a hug after the ceremony and she
told us how much it meant to her to be part
Since we're telling Betty Lynn stories, I have a wonderful memory from Mayberry
Days 2004. It was later in the day on Friday after Andy had dedicated the
TVLand statue that morning. I was waiting with a friend in one of the stores
there on Main Street (can't remember which one) where Betty
is definitely amazed at the popularity of TAGS after all
these years. Isn't it wonderful that we have a Betty Lynn

when you think of the ages of our Mayberry originals. There must be a very
special place in heaven for Mayberry
She is a wonderful and kind lady with many wonderful stories to tell. I
could sit and listen to her for hours.

I had a pleasant morning today. BETTY LYNN was interviewed on KY-3 news in
Springfield. She will be in MARSHFIELD, MO tomorrow for a charity event. She
was born in my hometown of KANSAS CITY. It was nice seeing THELMA LOU again.
