When I worked the switchboard in the 70 in college there was only one out
of town line to call out on. Calls could come in with no problem.

I never could understand why Malcolm Tucker could not make a phone call.
Certainly, the entire
town of Mayberry was not on one single party line. All Andy would have had
to do was to take Mr.
Tucker to someone else's house to make the call. If this scenario is
right, it would mean that anytime
Anyone ever notice two different candlestick phones were used during the

Hey Folks,
The WBMUTBB Online chapter meeting held on January 1, 2011 and in
attendance by phone were Bob Bravetti, Tom Rusk, Joe Gritton, Ron
Blankenship, Mike Peacock, Vicki Pillow, and me. We had several others
in the chat room talking with us and they included Albert Acevedo
While out Christmas shopping this week I noticed all the people taking
videos with their cell phones. Got me to thinking how lucky the people of
Mayberry were that they didn't have phone cameras and You Tube. Can you
just imagine what would be floating all over the internet back then. People
Hey folks,
We get the question quite often here at WBMUTBB about TAGS ring tones
for you phone. WBMUTBB member, Debbie Ritter, found a place to get
those asked for ring tones (as well as many other ring tones). Here is
her note:
A while back, I remember folks asking where to find Mayberry
I'll step in a day late here to echo the words of my fellow attendees of
the 5000th digest anniversary phone conference. Not only did it go
smoothly, but Allan's video feed was an extra nice touch. Allan also
did a great job moderating it all. It was nice to hear about other

Hi Gang -
The Tuesday night phone test worked great. We had a ball chatting, some of us
on the phone conference and some just in the chat program on the website, or
both. There were around ten of us, give or take, and it proved the technology
worked out great.
I hope a lot of you

Aunt Bee had to write Aunt Nora to visit remember? Then at the
ends conclusion she uses the phone to call her. Why didn't she call Uncle
Ollie and Aunt Nora by phone before?
My guess would be that it was long distance, and at that time long distance
telephone calls were pretty expensive
OMG - can you imagine Barney with an electronal marvel like a cell phone in

I can remember my Mom telling about when she was phone operator before I was
born. I remember when everybody that was on our line phone rang in our
house, it was a different ring for each person so you knew when to pick up.
Also we used to only dial the last four numbers for anyone on our

really know her name, we had a candlestick phone and a square black box on

I was wondering if any trained noticers had ever discussed the Mayberry phone
book. Early in the episode where Goober assembles the car in the Courthouse,
Andy can't find anyone to stay in the Courthouse while he's out of town and
Goober asks him who he's going to get. Andy says he doesn't know

Aunt Bee of Orlando was right. In many small towns the switchboard was located
in the operator's home. Not much traffic at night, and she could handle it in
her night things.
In fact, at one time I worked for the company that provided phone service in
Mt. Airy.
I got to talking
To get a good look at how someone, who was perhaps much like Sarah, handled

fairly decent in its presentation and is a meaningful story. It also

peak at Mr. Schwump's. I just know he had an important position with the FBI

man from a small town?
