Hi Tom
yes I am talking about the outdoor shielded cable
the connectors are the ubiquiti one but it seems that the cables are
taking water from some hole in the cable or something like that
Thanks to all for the answers
Are you talking about their outdoor shielded cable? If so, we've been
Hi Josh
yes we used the green cables then we noticed it changed to a new color
I will try to contact ubiquiti, but the cables are installed around the
places so I really don't know how to remember if they are green or
whatever they are
By the way, it's quite annoying that we get the devices
Can anyone help me out? We are in the process of deciding which company
to use for 6 licensed links. Both are similar in price/performance.
Trango has more tx power and rx sensitivity, thus their antennas are
smaller, which is a plus. I would like to know if anyone has any
experiences with
If you are speaking about backhaul, I might tend to agree Mike. But if PMP,
which is what 4.9GHz is primarily for (PTP is literally considered a secondary
service in 4.9 is only supposedly approved for temp service), then 4.9 GHz is
the only option for high capacity PMP for public safety
All things equal, SAF has a 5 year warranty and fantastic tech
support. We have both Trango and SAF in our network and now all new
links are SAF exclusively.

I have 3 SAF links...operating just fine. I know of others that have a lot
of Trango links...operating just fine. I don't think you could go wrong
with either one.

Having more than 20+ links on both manufactures here is my input:
SAF Pluses
Great UI Interface, simultaneous link config changes from 1 end/polarity
indicator
Lightweight
Low Power consumption
Great mount
No Feature keys
5 years warranty
SAF Minuses
Lower Tx power
Custom Antenna - ODU
With modern gear such as our 2x2 Extreme, creating PMP coverage has never been
better for both NLOS challenges and certainly makes LOS connections easier than
ever, wouldn't you say?
Not sure you mean by not the LOS advantage of normal installs. What in 4.9
disadvantages LOS connections?
Feature key is NOT required on Trango for more power. All the radios are
at full power regardless of the license key.

I beg to differ, they have a new higher power option that requires a license
key. Its only compatible with latest apex plus radios

I'm curious about that as well... I know weight is a big thing for
Gino due to shipping... but I'm not sure I would be willing to give up
the higher output and better receive levels for a couple extra pounds.

I don't really care about weight either (though that does tend to show a
better product in ATX power supplies).
I am concerned about the wattage consumption and price.

I don't understand, SAF has a standard power version and a high power
version. Cost difference isn't much.

When I have priced them before, SAF was the same price as Trango with

And SAF's 5 year warranty is very cool... the bigger question with this
type of radio is how quickly can they repair/replace the unit? I
That is where I am as well. Just stay working is the reason I am moving

At First Step we started deploying DragonWave units long ago and in an effort
to keep the network somewhat consistent, we have been installing them ever
since. (~ 100 paths installed) We have been very happy with the product and

I've had to do an RMA with SAF due to a Lightning Event. Unfortunately,
the radio has to go to Latvia for repairs. The turn around was about 2

Now, we buy extra units instead of advanced replacement.

HI,
I have spoken to several other WISP's and when they actually compare the
SAME radio from SAF to Trango (same power, same license keys, same
dishes, etc.) then Trango is 99% of the time less expensive. Yes, it
only has a 2 year warranty compared to 5 years, but that's the only
difference.
LOL Love those palm trees! I used to live there, don't envy you a bit. grin
I normally turn my radios way down anyway. With the sensitivity of today's
radios there's no need for hot links.
30 to 35dB of s/n is, in my not so humble opinion way too much. That's well
within the range of

Hi all, I'll chime in here to clarify the point regarding TX Power.
Trango offers high power as a standard feature, and even higher power as
an optional key. The Extra high power feature and I should also point
out that we also now support adaptive power control, meaning that as ACM

Hmm... I don't think the board is hung because it runs the code fine during the
events, with no dmesg errors from the dirvers. Another AP won't work here (at
least not easily) because this system has loads of custom code and scripts for
our video surveillance apps. We are working to port those
Our new COMPACT is a true SDR radio using FPGAs. But that only allows for
changes in protocols like from WiMAX to LTE. The actual RF side is another
matter. Cell phones do not have one radio, but rather a dozen or so. You'll not
find a SDR that tunes for TX/RX across a huge swath of spectrum.
Yes. As stated the green stuff is crap. Ive got boxes of radios with
dead ethernet ports. Forget new cable, I want my radios fixed! We used
the cable in short runs 15ft, and are finding more and more places it
was used as those sites fail.

We've used a few Trango, no SAF, and one Dragonwave. We had one of the Trango
units recieve a near-lightning strike, which completely killed it. We sent it
in, and they fixed it for $600, (out of warranty). We put it back up, and it
failed about six months later. We sent it in, and we had it
Yikes,
That doesn't sound good from DragonWave's perspective. At $5k, that is nearly
the cost for the entire radio path, (not counting antennas, PONE, etc) Can't
imagine why they would charge such a price. Were you working directly with
DragonWave or through a vendor? We do most of our

areas like OK.

has turned from the original grey color to a translucent green, and
hairline cracks then develop across the diameter of the cable. Almost
