Anyone have recommendations on products you use for outdoor, weatherproof
ethernet splices?

Hello everyone! Im using MT W/ OSPF and Im unable to hitcertain backhaul radios or computers on my backhaul sub.
Example:
On a switch (Radio, Ftp Server Web server, MT Router)---(Backhaul10.10.1.x/24)---Radio-MT router ether1
(Same Board)MT Ether2RadioAP--(wireless sub
To tell you the truth I have been looking at those for months now and
couldnt decide if it was an actual splicer (which I could use a few
of) or something you add to an outdoor enclosure for a pass-thru. (of
which I could use a few)
If someone figures it out - - please post :-)
Thanks
Mac
The Trango M5580 is a great product and been working well from a stability
perspective and price point, and glqd to have it as an option. However,
there are several challenges to deal with.
There are two negatives that creates a third.
1) 8 db int antenna, so 7 db less than Fox5800.
2) No
Yes they work well.
ONly one thing... The Bulkhead Nut looks identicle
to the Nut for the other type of Ethernet connectors that are standard for
Rootennas. (The ones the cable just goes through and rubbers around it.). They
are NOT the same NUT! IF you get the NUTs confused, it strips, and

I was hoping to have a closer additional source for
things (I always try to have more than one) and these people have

But, over the course of about 3 days, and
approximately 30 phone calls to thier number, I never

These work well and come with different sized grommets for use with
different diameter cable. They are about 1/3 more cost than the ones on
wisp-router.

I don't think I'd use it for an inline splice
personally.
A Short Cat5 cable is fixed to one side of the
device.

Anyone here have experience soldering connectors on to Motorola
Canopy radios? Id like to start doing my
own soldering and cant figure out where to solder the center conductor
and grounds for these. There are 3 points where the integrated antenna attaches
to the PCB and Im pretty sure that
Making that modification would likely take the
radios out of certification.

There are 380mw radios, Id
like to stick a 15db omni on one and see what it does.

Basically modify Canopy? What is so wrong with that?

Hey Kurt. I am curious. What are you soldering and why/purpose? Can't
you get connectorized and attach an omni? Why solder?

We'll just have to assume that this is for testing and he'll have

Because like you said, this is not a place where we talk about breaking

Kudos to Pac Wireless. I imagine we have used at least 30 of them in the last
few months. We did find one that was bad. Test before you take to the field.

I am officially cancelling this thread.
Illegal modification of radios is not a topic that needs to be discussed on
WISPA list servs. I suggest Kurt work directly with Motorola with his plans
of modification. If he feels he has a good idea, he should consult with a
patent attorney as well
This is not an actual splice. It's a bulkhead connector. Save yourself
trouble and just re-run the cable. You will have a much better life, trust
me on this one.

I agree with Justin, this is not a splice. All our attempts at splicing
Ethernet outdoors has resulted in another service call 3-6 months down the
road and a new run of Ethernet. Its cheaper to run new cable and be done
with it than to splice and pray. Nothing worse than to have disgruntled
Thanks, I just ordered one. I'll check it out. If it can be weatherproofed
and isn't too difficult to deal with it may solve my problem of having
enough cable as I replace the EtherAnt-Turbo's.

I just wanted to give a public thank you to Butch Evans! He knew what the problem was. My source-nat rule was set to all interfaces and needed to be set to the WAN. Thanks again Butch!!
