Finally happened to catch it on my personal computer, it is a fake
survey that offers $120 gift for taking a survey from LakeNet LLC, asks a
series of questions about our service and then lets the user select their
choice of some junk cosmetics or a free credit report.

I'm not even sure what the point of this is, but I tracked it back to
Zedo.com which is an advertising agency. I've tried calling them, only able to
get to a voicemail box which tells me to email their support address, which
I've done

Is this type of thing even legal for them to do? It's totally
misrepresenting their ad as being from my company.

I'm attaching a screenshot.

Any suggestions?

That depends on wire size. That distance is not going to be ethernet
so I will assume #12 AWG, 400ft, copper wire, etc. You should be
seeing a 5.6% drop under a 1amp load or about 25v under load.

Re: [WISPA] Update - Las Vegas TDWR Interference - Source Located

What brand of equipment is this?

On 12/22/2011 1:56 PM, Jack Unger wrote:
Many of you offered assistance to help us respond to the FAA Emergency
request regarding severe interference to the Las Vegas Terminal
Doppler Weather Radar system a few weeks ago. I would have liked to
provide you with feedback sooner however our FAA contact person was on
leave and only got back to us today. Here is what he said in his email.

Sorry I have been out of the office. The transmitter for a wireless
video

surveillance at a storage lot was located. Thank you everyone for your
support.

The FAA also forwarded two photos at the location of the offending
equipment. Those photos are attached.

Hopefully the successful conclusion of this incident will be an
eye-opener for the FCC, the FAA and also for us in the WISP industry.

The FCC and the FAA can see that there are other unlicensed users (not
just WISPs) of the shared 5 GHz bands and that, for the most part, the
WISP industry is made up of responsible users of this shared,
unlicensed spectrum.

We, as responsible spectrum users are reminded that to protect our
privilege of using unlicensed spectrum, we may need to reach out to
other non-WISP users of this spectrum and help them understand the
need to be aware of and to follow FCC rules. By responsibly and
respectfully educating other users, we will not only maximize our
chances of maintaining our use of currently-allocated unlicensed
spectrum but we will also maximize our chances of gaining additional
shared, unlicensed spectrum in the future.

Again, thanks to everyone for your positive suggestions and assistance.

These are a combination of various coverage maps plus the zip codes listed
by each WISP voluntarily in the WISP Directory site. If you have more zip
codes you service you should log in to your account and add then to the

The static dissipators need to be taller than the antennas, and VERY well
grounded. They will provide a cone of protection around the equipment under
them. I know of a radio station building that took a hit about every year. He

Re: [WISPA] Bandwidth Providers; OptiMan

2010-09-02 Thread Mike Mattox
This doesn't seem to work well. I am served by ATT fiber from a manhole 2
feet from by building. The fiber has been here over 20 years, plus they just
made a new pull this spring. I entered my address, got back:
This address is not within 500 feet of a fiber path owned by one of the ATT
incumbent local exchange companies.

Then I put in the address of the ATT central office, got the same results. Do
they have anybody actually running this company?

$20/month, I can switch to another service for $19.95. Switched for a

I've found that most customers will jump the fence for a few bucks
difference or an increase in speed no matter how much ass kissing I do.

As an old boss I had years ago used to say... Business is business.
Love is love. Money isn't love.

Service is what I think separates some of that. I'll take service over
price any day but some people will put up with god awful service and
 support
 for a buck difference.

Those customers will never leave us. - dont be too sure about that.
The first fire I had, I gave them two free re-installs and two free
 months.
They got paid the insurance money, didn't pass it on to us and then
 canceled
 a few months later.

Re: [WISPA] BIP/BTOP = Big Government in Missouri

2009-10-26 Thread Mike Mattox
Victoria,
I agree with you 110%. When I first looked at what the state was proposing,
I saw that it was virtually an overlay of existing fiber routes. What will
this do to promote any last mile projects? This governor is not gaining any
points with me.
I believe your 'stinks' article was spot on, I am forwarding it to our state
representative.

Folks in this state have been getting a bit upset, and I don't blame them.

Telecommunication/Cable associations have been complaining and we don't
 know
 if anyone is listening.

The state has proposed a project that repeats not just one, but a
 multitude
 of fiber carriers.

They have made it clear that it will be used with the states University
program Morenet, as well as for the state to have free traffic.

The only applicants that Governor Jay Nixon supports are applicants that
propose to use his new fiber ring.

Yesterday, I spoke to the once CIO of the state, who interestingly moved
 to
another department after the Governors' announcement of support.

By the time all is said and done, the price to access that 'new fiber
 ring'
is going to be about 3X what we negotiated with private carriers.

 We did an article: http://showmebroadband.com/stinks.html

 Any ideas?
