Craig:
These 6 albums were mainstays in my dad's rotation. Listening to Jazz at such
an early age allowed me to open my mind to what music can be.

Bri:
Cool! I don't know where my eclectic music tastes came from, but the wildest my
parents ever got with their music was Tequila and Wipe Out! Here's another
trip down memory lane -- remember when you used to load a stack of 45's on the
record player to drop down for continuous playing?

2008-12-02 Thread Jim L
Most of that stuff has been traded free on groups like this for years. Then
when the internet downloading thing really kicked in about 5 years ago every
Zappa fan (with a broadband connection) could have the best possible copy
available for free. Now keep in mind that most if not all of this stuff was
just not available from the ZFT at that time. Most was not available for far
too many years from legitimate retail sources. We have attempted to stop the
trading or vines of things when a ZFT version is released. One never knows
when a favorite live show is suddenly going to be released by the ZFT
though.

As for eBay they have rules against selling this sort of thing but they just
don't enforce them. The truth is that they make too much money from this
sort of thing. They even have a rule against selling any disc that's on
written media as opposed to a factory pressing.

Frank Zappa The Mothers Of Invention In The 1960s DVD (Chrome
Dreams/MVD)

This film reviews the true story of The Mothers of Invention and
the music they made during the first incarnation of the band. With
group members Jimmy Carl Black, Bunk Gardner, Don Preston and Art
Tripp taking up the tale and revealing - often for the first time -
what the real Frank Zappa was all about; and with contributions
from 'scenesters 'like LA wildman Kim Fowley, biographer Billy James,
Zappa academic Ben Watson, music journalist Richie Unterberger and
English writer and musician Alan Clayson - acclaimed biographer of
Edgar Varèse - this program is the most detailed, informative and
enjoyable documentary on Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention yet
to emerge. Also features rare footage of Frank and The Mothers from
throughout the 1960s, archive interviews, seldom seen live
performances, and a host of other features.

   Track Listing/Features:
   Who Are The Brain Police?
   Hungry Freaks Daddy
   Trouble Every Day
   Brown Shoes Don't Make It

BerichtIt was in a Guitar Player magazine interview if memory serves. I
probably still have it as I NEVER throw out anything 'Frank'. But it wasn't
about his music, it was about Miles Davis as a person. He recalled going to see
Miles in the early Sixties and went to meet him after the show. He relates
walking up to MD to introduce himself and shake Miles' hand. According to
Frank, after saying something along the lines of 'Mr. Davis, my name is Frank
Zappa and I enjoyed your show' etc Miles turned his back on FZ and completely
ignored\snubbed him. Frank goes on to say how this stuck with him and he made
sure to never treat his fans this way.

Hope that clears things up.

Marco,
I knew Frank as a person. In 1966 we were not
studying every little detail of each other. Frank was
my friend. Neither one of us were big deals at the
time. Try to get a little outside the box on this and
try to understand that we were just two guys who were
both into music and other forms of artistic
communication. Most of my album Color Him In was
written on Frank's floor in Laurel Canyon. I was
writing and Frank was shooting still photographs of
little clay figures on a piece of plywood. This later
became an animated movie that I am sure you are
familiar with. I did not know all the details of
Frank's life we just liked hangin out with each other.

[Zappa-List] RE: Frank Zappa on Holland Doc

2007-04-19 Thread Marco \Kallie\ Kalnenek

From Saturday April 21 until Saturday April 28 Holland Doc shines the
spotlight on musical genius Frank Zappa. Besides unique film material
Holland Doc will also broadcast radio documentaries on the composer and
rock-artist Zappa on its website: www.hollandoc.nl/zappa.
The reason behind this tribute is the documentary Frank Zappa - A pioneer
of the future of music part I II, recently made by Dutch
 documentary filmmaker Frank Scheffer.

Unfortunately it was announced earlier today that Gail Zappa does NOT give
permission to broadcast Sheffer's 'Pioneer of future music'.
I will try to find out what the reason is.

2006-03-24 Thread Guy
The show with Joni's appearance was my first FZ show (Fillmore
program scans in photos section). As I remember it, while reciting
this thing about Penelope with the band playing one of Frank's
beautiful two chord vamps behind her, Joni said ...I fuck the
sea., then started some nice harmonizing along with Mark Howie as
Frank soloed over it all. I'd LOVE to hear a recording of that show!

--- In Zappa-List@yahoogroups.com, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Yeah, you've got to really listen for it - which is why I said the
show could stand some tweakage. The instruments come thru fine, the
vocals are there about 75% of the time; it's the asides that need
boosting, but there are a lot of them.
 Still, an excellent show...
Now, if only someone would come forward with the other show from
that 2-night run featuring Joni Mitchell reciting Penelope wants to
fuck the sea...
 A Grail, of sorts.
