Most US and Singapore laptop vendors do not have the ability or patience to accept TCs. Please take Cash, Mastercard or Visa. Even AmEx is not universally accepted.

 

And I agree – laptops are cheaper in India than in London, all of Europe or even Dubai. Only in the US, Taiwan, HK and Singapore are they significantly cheaper (or have better models etc.) than in India.

 

Get a brand that has some sort of support in India.

you could also take TC's in the form of a debit card. most travel and forex agents will arrange this for you at the prevailing exchange rates. when you swipe this card the additional transaction cost is only $1.

You can carry upto 3.5 to 4k USD openly and that should get you a very
decent laptop indeed - high end macs, sony vaios etc.

TCs can be negotiated just about anywhere - dont worry about it.  If
theres a hassle you can always go to a nearby bank and redeem them there
