Ruth: Have you read Dr. Linus Pauling on constipation and Vitamin C? The only
side effect from too much Vitamin C is diarrhea. Have you ever tried Vitamin C
in large amounts daily? Pure ascorbic vitamin C 1000 mg. tablets. Take 3 or 4
tablets in the morning before breakfast and see if it helps. If it doesn't
help, try more at lunch time.

I dunno. I am not a doctor but I know my limit on Vitamin C.

Hi, Nancy, Raw food just isn't an option for me at present. My problem is
constipation rather than diarrhea. My colon what with aging and physical
structure of the organ which has affected me all my life. I have used a wheat
free, completely celiac type diet even though I have not been diagnosed with
celiac disease. This has been for nearly 4 years now. This colon simply
doesn't move anything along in any sort of an orderly fashion. If you could
see the X-ray taken in May, you would see that it does not look at all like the
pictures in the health books and encyclopedias. The doctors are quite sure
there is no cancer involved. Have had several colonoscopies in the past couple
of years. My doctor says the surgeon who does my colonoscopies really earns his
pay. Sometimes I wonder, if it is so hard to get through my colon with his
flexible instrument, maybe these procedures have contributed to the overall
problem.
I eat a rather limited diet already, have already eliminated citrus
fruits, cabbage family, apples which has always given me trouble, I eat only
vegetables that I steam in a double boiler which helps control amount of heat.
I eat no ketchup or other condiments, no sugar , no baked goods. No tomatoes.
I do eat potatoes occasionally, but am wondering about that whole family. I do
eat bananas, which are probably constipating, but they agree with my upper
digestive tract. Whatever works to help the large colon often bothers the
organs in the upper digestive tract. The surgery would probably not help the
upper problems, but could make things better in the lower tract. I am trying a
approach with the surgeon I saw yesterday. I hope this one helps. Thanks for
your help and I will check out the site you suggested. I"m glad that you have
found a solution to your IBS. Ruth
