Another oil that will kill the tick instantly is cedar oil.  It both repels 
them and kills them (fleas and bedbugs too).  A product called Cedarcide is 
available for this purpose.

        I heard from a cattle rancher they use pine oil to make the tick let 
go. They hate the oil and release.  The oil also kills any germs that may be 
present.  I also heard that tee tree oil works and so does oil of oregano.

        Try putting dish soap on it. It can't breathe and it really will 
release.
