Although a car battery will normally not shock you, it certainly can.
Get across the terminals if you are sweaty and you will definitely get a
shock. Had it happen last weekend in fact. It can also be lethal, and
has killed a few people, although it is very rare. You must be very
wet, or sweaty, and the current must go through your heart. Although
theoretically touching the hot terminal with one hand, and having the
other hand on ground should be able to provide such a path, the cases I
have heard of where a person was killed by a car battery all involved
them laying on the wet ground sweating, and touching a hot wire.
