Dee,
If your CS is clear and stable, you are doing great and don't really need to go to the expense of a different meter

I just usually recommend a PWT or COM-100 because A TDS wouldn't have worked for me here. And until a person gets going making CS there is no real way to know if a TDS is sufficient or not, though the odds are on the side of it being good enough.

I didn't get a meter until a few months into CS making, when I was having continual problems with very yellow finished CS. Ode kept telling me it was the DW water quality, but I didn't listen, and he was kind enough to work through other possibilities with me. Then finally I purchased a PWT from Silvergen, and it turned out it was the DW water quality after all. Had I owned a good meter from the get-go, I'd have saved myself several months of frustration and experimentation. Once I found out how extremely variable the DW sold here is (under any brand names) I got a distiller, and my problems were solved as I could then distill to the purity I needed.

For some reason, DW quality here seems to be running good for the nonce. If it continues good over the coming weeks and months, I won't replace my distiller which finally broke (the spout to the collection container crumbled, and the collection bottle had cracked anyway). It did good for around 6 years though. Not bad for an el cheapo.

Me either. I too have a filter on the water system but it only took the contaminants down about 30 points. i.e. on my TDS meter the tap water before we put the filter on read 288 and after the filter it reads about 263. When I have distilled it, it reads 000 but this is only on a TDS meter. It still makes really clear stable CS though. dee
