Dear Mr. Squires,
We conducted some, rather extensive,
evaluations of hyperbaric oxygen treatment devices, in late 1998. Most of
these units, including the portable devices; are rather expensive for the
average (individual) researcher.
Although we possess the technnical and financial
resources to construct a device of our own design....we chose not to do so.
After considerable discussion, we opted for procuring a portable altitude
chamber and employed the use of an oxygen mask and small portable
container. The results we obtained compared favorably with those from a
$5000.00 portable unit. The unit we purchased was manufactured by a firm in
Australia. The name of the unit is the PAC (Portable Altitude Chamber). It
cost about $1000.00. We considered a bag pressure gauge to be
superfluous---for our purposes, as the inflated condition of the bag
demonstrates the system is working. Pressure gauges have no function in the
operation of these devices, since a universal feature among all of them is a
condition of constant pressure maintenance through relief valving.
An additional advantage to the system we employed is the absence
of a pure oxygen atmosphere surrounding the person inside the
enclosure....as the high-percentage 02 mixture circuit involves only the
pulmonary system of the volunteer. One modification we employed was the
implementation of a pressure-regulated air source for maintaining the
desired atmospheric presssure inside the bag.
All things considered, we were quite pleased with the results of
this system, and the monetary savings were quite substantial.
Although we purchased our unit directly from the manufacturer,
if you will call up the attached URL, there is some useful information
supplied by an American group on High Altitude Medicine.

information is at the bottom of the page.
I hope this information is of some value to you.
Sincerely, Brooks Bradley.
