Wayne, As to spacing. It is not critical but it should be held fixed for ones setup. When running LVDC I used 2 1/2" spacing for #14 wire with 5" wet length as the initial current current in ma. was almost equal to the conductivity of the DW as measured with my one centimeter conductivity tester.
