Is anyone running sims in classic? Is it a good or bad idea?

I'd say it was a bad idea. I mean, if you're running Classic then you are running OS9 anyway but withplenty of opportunity for problems.

If you're like me you have a few Macs that can't go to OS X. So keep one
running with OS9 and SIMS. It's just too good a set up to stuff around with.

I agree completely. If your volume is SIMS-suitable (i.e. <10,000 messages per day) and you can live without the fancier features of more complex mail systems, SIMS on OS 9 (or OS 8) and hardware you wouldn't want to use as a modern desktop makes a great mail appliance. If I wasn't trying to do a half-dozen other things with the P575 I run my own SIMS server on, I would never have to think about it.

And the alternative is OS X and a commercial mail program (I mean it's not
like a Mac/SIMS user cold ever use Sendmail ;) )

Um, Hmmm...

Would it shock you to know that wrangling sendmail is responsible for a large fraction of my meal ticket?

I honestly *LIKE* sendmail. It's not the best solution to all situations, but it really is quite good and nothing else comes near its flexibility. Free and runs on just about anything are also both quite strong features.
