Michael and Tony, thank you for all your prompt comments on this - thank
you for sharing your Patton expertise.

The motivation for my question is that we are in the process of defining
the design approach to be used for addressing XECS-415. One of the
avenues explored would require the gateway to be challenged by the sipX.
I'm not so much interested about whether or not the gateway can REGISTER
itself - the important part is that it can respond to a challenge. The
hypothetical scenario would be like this: call comes in from PSTN.
Gateway presents that incoming call to sipX over SIP. sipX, seeing that
the domain part of the From: header matches its own concludes that the
call originator is a local user and therefore challenges the caller to
authenticate its identity.

Keep in mind that this scenario is *very* hypothetical and I'm only
mentioning it to satisfy your curiosity :) I know that Patton is one of
the gateways that is used often with sipX and I wanted to check if it
supported that capability before going any further.
