There was a brief discussion of this last fall on the sipx-dev list. A
lot of it had to do with security, etc. I thnk at that time the
general consensus was to build the fax client into the sipxconfig UI
(no driver installations on the PC, etc.). If someone wants to
resurrect that discussion, I think it would be helpful to all.

There are essentially 3 ways to this can be developed:

1. Driver for each desktop/OS.
2. Email 2 Fax gateway (send an email to the fax server in sipx to
have the attached files converted and the subject line , etc. contain
the fax number, etc. to be parsed).
3. As a function of the sipxconfig UI, the user can harness their
existing phonebook and upload/attach the files they need to send
there.

The consensus (as I recall) was to use option #3, since it would be
easier to ensure proper security/toll-fraud aspects and it would be
"client-less".

I also think there was a fourth option to add an IM function to send a
fax, but being able to attach files from the various IM cleint is
sometimes a problem and it might not have been discussed except for
the ability of the IMBOT to message you on successful/unsuccessful
transmission of any fax maybe.
