The 'server' install (from the alternate or server CDs) just installs the
ubuntu-standard metapackage and all of its dependencies. The 'desktop'
install (from the alternate or desktop CDs) installs the ubuntu-desktop
metapackage and all of its dependencies (including ubuntu-standard). There
should be very little, if any, difference between doing the full desktop
install straight up vs. doing a 'server' install and installing the ubuntu
desktop metapackage.

(James' mistake is that he didn't specify which CC license. He could have
chosen one which did not require attribution.)
