Christian, We run SmartOS on multiple HP Microserver Gen8’s for a couple of years now with great success - great machines and an amazing OS!
Regarding your points below: - The „Couldn’t read ACPI SRAT table“ message can safely be ignored. The HP BIOS does not seem to include that table but as Robert M pointed out a ling time ago this would only be relevant for multiprocessor machines (i.e. multiple CPUs, not just multiple cores). And I am not aware of any Microserver Gen8’s with more than one physical CPU. - We have seen the „WARNING: Last shutdown is later than the time-of-day chip“ message occasionally when a machine was shut down for a longer period. All our machines pull time from NTP, so this is not much of a concern in the end (for us). The two „svc.startd“ faults shouldn’t exist, so that’s where things start to get interesting. You didn’t provide much info about that so I’m guessing: - Suppose like you used the „smartos-*-USB.img.bz2“ disk image (doubt that the machine would boot otherwise). Correct? - Did you set the SATA controller to „Enable SATA AHCI support“ in the BIOS? Default setting is B120i RAID, which cannot be used with SmartOS. (See the first few minutes of this video for details on how to alter this setting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-161eqDTP8I) - Did you run through the SmartOS setup procedure on first boot? It should have asked you for which disks to use for the „zones“ pool, network configuration,… We haven’t done this for quite a while, so I can’t recall whether the installer asks to set a root password too at this stage… Let me know if this helps getting you started.
