Do it please, these things are hard to explain and Softimage is so well fine tuned in this respect I believe there is lot to learn from it. Make sure you do that because they are in a huge drive to usability in the viewport.
They have improved it a lot in H16 but I am sure there is more to do.. Then of course is the factor of being used to and you, l like me, will get used to the idiosyncrasies but it is a this moment that you are not 100% comfortable that is the most valuable.
