The main problem I found was that POPs are just points that are easily
directable, but FLIP is points with volume, so you are often fighting against
the volume forces when trying to manipulate the points.

However, the volume is what gives the FLIP it's liquid characteristics i.e.
surface tension, viscosity etc - so you do lose a bit of that when just using
POPs.

For my job it was a case of splitting an object made of 'oil' into three
objects made of 'oil' so making the points follow from one shape into three
shapes was far more controllable using POPs and then adding in the liquid
characteristics like stickiness/viscosity and wobble afterwards - rather than
fighting against the liquid characteristics of FLIP

It turns out a lot of my issues stemmed from the nested dialectic, as soon as i
turned that off things started working much better.

Thanks all for advice, I will moyou don't thnst probably be asking for more
over the coming days, it's a steep curve, or maybe it just seems that way after
using only Soft for so many years, where your so used to it that you, of course
know that unless you check "that box" it won't work, but at least it's not Maya.

Hey Gareth, i would be most grateful if you could expand a little on the pops
versus flip thing, I was thinking flip as I have to get it to go back to the
bottle shape.

Top tips all most welcome, cheers all!

I've got to do a shot where four standing crayola crayons quickly melt in a
non-newtonian shapes then reform into four bottles.
I have melty crayons, and I thought I would use the Suction force to bring them
back to the bottles, I'm having problems with have the melted forms look
nice/directable. The whole shot is 5 secs, so 3 of actual action.
Am I mad to have taken this on?

i think the idea is you can assign any part of a network to an object so you
can drag the principled shader from /mat onto an object or you can dive inside
and and assign stuff from inside instead. It's one big network where multiple

seems slightly redundant to me so far, You can get the the internals of the
principled shader by right clicking and selecting allow editing of contents
(but then it gets scary)

I'm a bit confused about the whole material Palette thing. If I have two
shaders, say a glass and a liquid, if I go into either of the Disney castle
icon shaders they are both on each other. And is the principled shader more
"black boxed" now, and I should do all layering in this top level?

I am just trying to set up a layered shader in Mantra, if I look at this
tutorial
https://www.sidefx.com/tutorials/curvature-vop/
it looks so easy, but when I go to SHOP as she does I get no option for
principled shader, I have to use a material Shader builder node, it's all
different, and doesn't work nearly as well.
My main problem is that the shader puts my texture one to each poly, it does
have UV's.
Arrgh this is taking me too long.

Am I missing something basic?

Thanks everyone
