We had so many problems with PPPoE on SBC DSL line that we finally paid the extra money to get a static IP. Works much smoother. I don't know what they were doing (and they were no help), but our SW (I also tested it with a LinkSys mini-firewall with the same result) kept loosing the WAN IP and had to refetch. Down times were in the minutes x 20 per day. Too much downtime. It became cheaper to get the static IP than to spend more time solving what I think was an SBC problem, which they would never admit.
FYI: Since then we moved that office from SBC DSL to a Covad DSL line.
