Was she getting annoyed with his questions.  Jared  could only hope that he
was not doing that.  "My apologies,  Counselor.  I was just trying to
protect your patient's interests."

"I understand that," replied Joanna.  "I do not mean to come across as
restrictive about my participation.  I just think you should try and treat
the Captain as you would any other victim.  He is not suffering any more or
less than anyone else who has been a victim of a violent crime."  Her navy
eyes expressed he compassion and willingness to help in whatever manner she
could.

Jared nodded his head.  "That is true."

"When would you like to officially interview me about what happened to
Captain Boulay?"

"I will contact you about a good time for us to meet for questions.  I
would like to do so after I have had a chance to speak with Captain  Boulay.
My understanding is he is currently assigned off-station?"

Joanna nodded.  "Yes, he was assisting Commander K'Tael in an investigation.
I assume you have not heard what happened yet?"

Jared was surprised by the response.  It was clear that something had happened.  "No, what?"

"Their ship was forced down and crashed on the surface of Mars."  It was
clear from the wavering of her voice that this fact shook her up.  She was
deeply concerned by what had happened.

Surprise flooded Jared's face.  What was going on?  Was there not even safety in the Solar System.  "How is Captain Boulay and those on board with him?"

"From what I have heard, Commander K'Tael was the only one seriously
injured.  Captain Boulay is all right.  He experienced some minor injuries,
but they have already been treated."

It was not difficult to sense the relief in Joanna's response.  He had a feeling that it was not just because fellow officers had survived the accident.  There was more to the patient-doctor relationship than Joanna was indicating.  It was none of his business, though.  "I am glad that the Captain is ok.  Is there any news about Commander K'Tael's condition?"

(Joanna?)

Jared was saddened to hear that the station's security officer was in such a fragile condition.  He could only hope thtat the situation would change.  He did not know the Klingon well, but he understood that K'Tael was an invaluable member of the station's staff.

"I should probably let you return to work.  I will contact you to make an appointment for an interview."

(Joanna?)
"Thank you for taking the time to meet with me Counselor," he said as he stood up.  "Let me know if there is anything that I can do to help."  It was clear from the statement that Jared knew that there were strong feelings betweek David Boulay and Joanna Kirk.  It was not a threatening statement, but one that indicated that he truly did want to help.

(anything before he leaves?)

Jared departed to return to his office.
