So, here is what I have done and it worked. Inserted two new "test"
names (test company 1, test company 2) one with company checked, and
one without. The Company Checked one sync'd with the Company Name as
the first name as Test, and the last as company 1, the other was
created the same.

So here is what I did:
1) Deleted blank names in Google Contacts after ensuring they were
duplicates (all were)
2) Went to Address Book on my iMac and scrolled through listing, found
records without Company Name in First Last fields as well as in
Company field.
3) Modified/Corrected each one to have the Company Name in the First
Name field, checked the Company for listing as such in Address Book
(preference).
4) Deleted duplicate without Company Name in first name field

Fixed, all sync fine now... New entries w/o entry into First Name
field are created after next sync - I went to a good sushi place for
lunch and entered into the G1 with only Company Name, then entered a
business partner information (no Names) into Address Book, both sync'd
fine.

A lot of work as I have a few, but manageable contacts at this time.
Let's hope it does not occur again as my actual list that is being
updated (manually) from another program, or imported via Excel, is
around 750 plus.

Hope this helps, remember to do with care, back up address books,
ensure duplicates are the only ones deleted.
