OK... Good new/bad news. The good news...
You were right. Changing the compatibility mode to Google worked. I was a little concerned about how that mode was describing possibly altering my Address Book, so I made another back-up -- the first back- up being before I ran the first contact sync two days ago. My goal is to keep the sync mostly one-way; AB to Google (since I'll do most of my entries and mods through AB or my iPhone as I'm still using MobileMe) with the occasional exception. After syncing, Google contacts had no blanks. Since the majority of my AB entries with "Company" checked also have a contact name, the Google contacts entry was the contact name, but did contain the company info when I looked at the details of the contact. I have no problem with that. But... The bad news... I noticed that many (but not all) of my business contacts were missing from Google contacts. So, I checked my AB, and they were gone there as well. I restored AB from the backup I'd just made, and they were still not there. So, I can be certain that whatever sync eliminated those contacts from AB happened before I changed compatibility mode. I restored my AB from my original backup of a couple days ago (before my first sync) and the 24 missing business contacts are back. Unfortunately, I can't be certain if the ones that were missing were also the ones that were previously blank in Google contacts. Bottom line... As a developer myself, I can empathize with how hard it must be to cover every logical sync scenario between separate systems and still have absolutely no data loss (especially when both systems are moving targets). I'd say you've probably a few more use cases to cover. :) Personally, I'm okay with leaving alone the 131 of 155 contacts that made it into Google contacts and disabling the contact sync for the time being -- just until you've got it ironed out a bit more. I'm still a big fan of SS's server based model and will likely pay for the service at the end of my trial period. -Tim On Apr 10, 11:48 pm, Charlie Wood <[email protected]> wrote: > Tim- > > I think I've figured it out.
