If you are interested in thi, on the iPhone you can turn off MobileMe
calendar sync and start using Exchange sync to Google to sync
calendars instead. I have an Android phone (so I'm quite interested in
Google calendar sync), but I also own and iPod Touch and when Apple
first started with this new CalDAV in Mobile Me, I stopped using
MobileMe calendars and switched to Exchange sync for calendars, and it
works just fine.

The instructions for adding Google sync are here:

And it works perfectly. I can add, delete or edit calendar items on my
iPod Touch, and it will immediately repopulate to Google cal, which,
of course, will immediately sync with my Android phone (not that this
will be important to you), and will make the changes to iCal at the
next Spanning Sync sync. Of course you need to go into the MobileMe
settings on the iPhone and turn off calendar sync only.

Give it a shot.
