Many thanks, Andy. You _almost_ had me convinced to proceed with the
upgrade ( I initiated it 3 times and chickened out each time) but then
an online chat with an Apple advisor confirmed the drawbacks:

• Although MobileMe collects an annual subscription, they won't
support calendar syncing with OS 10.5.8 and they won't offer a rebate
towards the purchase of OS 10.6.x

• The upgraded calendars won't have all the features for users of OS
10.5.8

• Apple advises not to upgrade if you have more than 30,000 events
across all calendars yet they don't provide instructions for obtaining
the count. The Advisor said she could check, then came back and said
she couldn't. I asked her to provide a script for counting my events
but she couldn't do that either.

• Calendar groups have been eliminated

• MobileMe is still too buggy. It's sometimes unavailable, editing
calendar entries is excruciatingly slow, and the log out command on
one of my Macs using FireFox suddenly broke and no one seems to have a
fix. I have to forcefully disengage from the active MobileMe login.

• The upgrade disrupts use of SpanningSync for sending changes to
Google.

If the only deterrent were monetary I'd hold my nose and deal, but
there are just too many other drawbacks right now. I dearly want to
resume untethered syncing but will try to wait until the dust settles
some time after May 5th.

Am curious if other forum members with 10.5.8 made the switch and are
satisfied with the results.

Thank you all,

YangYin
