Dan, NFPA 101 may or may not require electrical supervision. The occupancy chapter will require a "supervised" automatic sprinkler system or just an automatic sprinkler system. The "supervised" automatic sprinkler system requires electrical supervision, but the automatic sprinkler system can be supervised via NFPA 13 methods without connection to a fire alarm system. See the new mercantile occupancy requirement (chapter 36-supervised) versus the existing mercantile occupancy requirement (chapter 37-not supervised) for an example. Supervised is defined in Chapter 9. (9.7.2).
Most require supervised automatic sprinkler systems.
